Question #: 11170

Question: Is possible to modify the router table to 62" x 148"?

Current Solution

Gantry width is generally fixed and much harder to widen or shorten, but table length can fairly easily be adjusted.

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO MOUNT THE NEW EXTRUDER WHITEANT?

Mounting the extruder to the whiteAnt can be done a couple of ways. One is to take the 4 mounting holes located at the lower portion of the z-axis rail support and use long screws protruding out. Take a thinner material and drill the four holes matching the locations of the 4 screws and screw on nuts to hold it in place. The other option would be to use the metal bracket and fasten to the edge of the rail support.

  • HOW THE ROUTER IS CONNECTED TO ELECTRONICS?

The parallel breakout board has a relay that can turn the router on and off according to the control software in the computer. The router will turn on automatically prior to the machine moving (a time frame can be set so the router is up to speed). When the machine is finished and is not moving, the router automatically turns off. This is with the m3, m4, and m5 codes in the g-code.

If you are interested in the USB breakout board, you will need to get an independent relay board.

  • DO NEED TO GET THE BIG PLANING BIT OR SURFACING AND GO OVER SPOIL BOARD MAKE SURE THAT IT IS PERFECTLY LEVEL IN RELATION ROUTER?

Yes, that is highly recommended for all the reasons you can imagine. Say you were doing engraving, not surfacing the spoilboard will either exhibit some areas that have no engraving at all, or areas that have engraving that is too deep. If you are cutting completely through the material, then one end may be cut all the way through but the other end will not have a complete cut, or produce onion skinning on the bottom of the workpiece.

  • IF WE ASSUME DESIRE TO PLACE THE RED LEAF 6' AWAY FROM TABLE, HOW MUCH CABLE IS NEEDED CONNECT MOTORS ON TABLE ITSELF?

blackToe requires a minimum cable length of of 15 ft for X, 17 ft for Y and 18 ft for Z for the redLeaf to be positioned at midpoint along the long axis and under the table. Each axis would need have 6 feet extra (form the midpoint)

  • WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS FOR GREENBULL TABLE?

Actual table dimension: 4'x8' is 56.078"x 121.50" (the overhang in the illustrations should be 3/4" thick)
To determine the frame dimensions, first consider using the frame height shown of almost 3' (2.86'). The width of the frame should be 4" narrower than the dimension from rail edge to rail edge (6X rail to rail is 80.078"). This will provide a 2" overhang on both sides (4X frame width should be 56.078").
The length of the frame should be 4" shorter than the desired length of the rails to provide a 2" overhang on both ends. The travel length will be 20" shorter than the rail length due to the space occupied by the gantry sides.
Two long pieces of 3/4" material will need to be placed on top of the frame with the 2" overhang on the sides and the end. These long strips of material will receive the rails and the chain mounts on the ends.

  • What is the best program to use for converting a .DXF file to a G-Code file to use with Mach4. Mach4 will be used with a drill table.

There really isn't a program to directly convert a dxf (drawing exchange) file to gcode instructions.

Gcode is a set of instruction on how to cut geometric features which has numerous parameters for control.

A dxf file is simple geometry and does not contain enough information to properly control a machine.

For instance, take a circle that may be in the dxf. You may want to cut on the inside of the circle, or the outside of the circle. The cutting would need to be half the diameter of the end mill from the geometry so the edge of the end mill cuts along the line. There is also the speed to cut the geometry, how deep to cut the geometry, etc. This information does not exist in the dxf file.

A CAM program, like CAMBAM, Cut2D or other Vectric software, MechCAM, etc that allows you to apply machining operation to the dxf geometry. These machining operations are what is converted into Gcode.

  • Hi i'm looking to upgrade my rail system along my X-axis which is 10 ft. Im wondering what it takes or if it is even possible to join two HIWIN guidways together to make up the 10' run.

Yes, we do that with our machines. You can use the rail blocks to serve as the alignment mechanism. If you have a slight misalignment, the block will not pass that joint. Make sure you use the same rail from the same supplier.
