Question #: 1178

Question: What is the footprint of the blacktoe 4x2?

Current Solution

The footprint of the optional blackToe table, is from its most outward points (73" inches x 34" inches) and for the gantry itself (36.5" inches width x 17.25" inches length x 29.5" inches height).

Additional Information:
Thank you. Let me ask a clarification question. From this description, can I presume that the 4x2 router kit can be attached to a torsion box-like table that is 73"x34", has a two inch overhang, and four inches of space below the overhang, and that the fully assembled unit will fit in a space that is 73" long by 36.5" wide (with a little bit of clearance, of course)? If I have extra space in the long direction, can I get longer rails and extend the table?

Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • what is the footprint of the vertical laser xl?

The footprint (necessary floor space) for the Vertical Laser XL is: 123 inches x 26 inches or 3124.2 mm x 660.4 mm

The height of the Vertical Laser XL is 87 inches or 2209.8 mm

So, the envelope of the Vertical Laser XL is:
    length: 123 inches or 3124.2mm
depth: 26 inches or 660.4 mm
height: 87 inches or 2209.8 mm

  • What profile do I use in VCarve for a BlackToe?

The blackToe is a CNC Router based on standard CNC Routing and milling actions. If you are referring to a profile machining operation (where the path follows the inside or outside edge of a polygon, line, arc or circle) then the profile is actually more a function what you want the CNC router (blackToe in this case) to do. A profile expects a specific end mill in the spindle and requires the specifications of the end mill in the profile operation.

If you are referring to profile to mean "post processor" or specifications (profile of the control) for the g-code interpretation for a specific control program (like Mach3), then you will need to set the post processor in VCarve post-processor to the control program you are using.

Please provide more specific information here so I can delve in a bit deeper.

  • Is it possible to increase the Z axis on the Blacktoe 2x4? My ideal would be to have 8" of travel.

Increasing the size on your Z-axis is possible by making the over z axis longer (rails, wood structure). Remember the location of your router/spindle and over all integrity of the z-axis structure.
Now another way of getting a longer reach is making a adjustable height table, so that you can raise or lower the material section(2' x 4') to add taller material or get a deeper cut.

  • What is the width of your strip brushes?

The strip brush is .2 inches (5.23 mm) wide, so a slot of that width or slightly wider will work. We use a .25 inch groove and use glue to adhere the strip brushes in our dust shoe.

The material of the bristles and the strip that holds the bristles are nylon.

  • what is the current draw of the 220v VFD

The current draw of the 220V VFD is 10 amps. Since the spindle is rated at 2.2kW, and the mains for the US 220V is in the range of 220V to 240V,

    2200W/220V = 10A
    2200W/240V = 9.167A

So, the rage of current draw will be between 10A and 9A, but it is advisable to provide a buffer of about 5 more amps if possible.
