Question #: 14116

Question: Hey Patrick, sent you a couple more pix if you could check them out. Thank you! Ben

Current Solution

Will do.

Additional Information:
Where did you send the images?

Additional Information:
phdrobotics. I think I just needed to run it slower but if you have any ideas as to how to pull that off going faster, let me know. It’s just not completely dialed in yet.

Additional Information:
The file that you are using should have the speed associated with each polygon/line/arc/circle. You should be able to select the layer that the geometry resides and change the speed and intensity. Are you using LaserCAD?

Additional Information:
Yes. But if I’m cutting a name out of a very thin material, I don’t need to go so slow. That name plate is what happens when I go to fast with a thin material. At the end of every cut point, it tries to move to the next point to fast and messes up the cut.

Additional Information:
Not sure if that has to do with the jerk settings.

Additional Information:
It's a balancing act. You will need to find the speed that works best and reduce the intensity for that speed. For instance, I typically run about 10 mm/sec to cut .22" plexiglass. You can control the depth of the cut by either slowing the speed, or increasing the power, so you have a great deal of control on how the material is cut.

Additional Information:
You might also want to check your belt tightness. See how that plays a role in the outcome.

Additional Information:
The Y is a little loose. Great machine! Just need to learn the controls and should work great. How can I switch from leftright engrave to updown?

Additional Information:
It's call swing. Y swing or X swing. There is a dropdown field for that in the engrave setting for the layer. Make sure to use swing unilateral so the firing only happens in one direction.

Additional Information:
Got it. Couple more questions for you. It’s printing upside down, not sure how to fix that. Also, how many passes does it take for you to get through 22 acrylic On 95%?

Additional Information:
Sent you one more picture. Thank you for the help!

  • Hello, I'm wondering if you could make a larger laser cnc if someone asks for it? Something like 36" x 52". And how much would it be?

We are developing a 4 foot by 8 foot (48" x 96") laser with 80 watts of power. If you need a laser at 36" x 52", you could use the 4'x8' laser and just build a shorter table. We will have this machine available in the latter portion of 2015.

  • Do you have a more detailed diagram of the rotary and 15A limit switches on the vlxl?

Are you trying to determine how to wire the switches or where to place them on the Vertical Laser XL? Let me know and I will provide some pictures or video on how to do this.

    Additional Information:
Kind of both. Have somewhat of an idea as to how to wire them but you included rotary and other limit switches. Not sure which ones to put where. Never worked with these before.

  • Hello to all the team. I wonder if the MACH 4 software is multiling or not ... Thank you for your reply, best regards. André.

Currently on our first version of MACH 4 that we have received, it was only included with English and German. We believe in the future updated versions of MACH 4 will have plugins, add-ons, or additional files to add additional languages.
But at its current state it only is included with English and German.

  • DO NEED TO SQUARE UP THE MACHINE AND IF SO YOU HAVE INSTRUCTIONS OR VIDEO FOR THIS?

The eyebolts are used in the squaring of the machine. I would use a standard carpenters square and first run the end mill along the edge of the square to first make it parallel with the long axis. Then run the end mill along the other edge with the short axis and adjust the eye bolts and chain according to the angle that the machine is out of square.

  • I HAVE INTEREST IN SOME KIT AROUND 14' X 3.5' CAN YOU SUPPLY? ALREADY PRICE? AND WHAT MORE NEED?, MY IS MODELING KAYAKS CNC

Our CNC machines can be lengthened to work with our customers specific projects.

For a 3.5' x 14' cutting surface, I would recommend our greenBull 4X! (4'x8'). You will only need to add the remaining length of rail(4) and chain(2) to accommodate the additional 6Ft, so this machine will have a cutting surface of 4' x 14'.

The additional lengths for the x-axis travel will be a total of 28Ft, and 14Ft of chain. We recommend selecting all the items you wish to purchase and see the actual total in your cart.

  • How do I wire the limit switches on the VLXL? Also, where do I place them? You included 2 rotary and two other limit switches.

You can actually select many places for the switches, depending on where you think your zero will be. I will take pictures of where we positioned our switches. We set the positions so the zero is at the bottom left corner of the machine.

    Additional Information:
    I will take pictures tomorrow.

    Additional Information:
Thank you. Just want to finish before the holiday.

    Additional Information:
Not a problem at all and my apologies for not having that information. I have been meaning to put up a video on the limit switch connection as it is somewhat difficult to explain the process in words and diagrams.

    Additional Information:
    Any update?

    Additional Information:
I plan on driving to the office later today and take pictures.

    Additional Information:
Thank you. I've just done almost everything else. Just waiting for the grade 3 grease in the mail. Also, where do you suggest connecting the cable carriers? I ran everything through the top but the carrier is getting kind of full. Because of that, it is pushing the belt out when the gantry moves.

    Additional Information:
I will take pictures of those connections as well.

    Additional Information:
    Much appreciated.

    Additional Information:
    It’s my pleasure.

    Additional Information:
I’m almost to the office. I’ve been shuttling my kids around today. Sorry for the wait.

    Additional Information:
I’m adding the images to the end of the VLXL instructions.

    Additional Information:
The limit switch connections use the NO (Normally Open) terminals. That means that the switch, when not engaged, is normally open (no connection between the com and the NO terminal). When the switch is engaged, then the connection is closed and the NO and COM terminal become connected, making a circuit.

    Additional Information:
Did you bend the arm on the x switch? Or can you mount it flush with enough give to trigger? Same on both sides?

    Additional Information:
It does look like it is bent in the picture. No, you do not need to bend the arm of the rotary switch.

    Additional Information:
We only have the rotary switch on one side.

  • Attaching the aluminum rails to the table. Do you use a 1/4" or 5/16" drill bit?
