Question #: 14272

Question: wiring schematic from frequency converter to plug for 2.2 KW router for plug that has 1,2,3,4 on it.

Current Solution

There will be three coil connections between the VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) to the spindle. These connections are 1, 2 and 3. U -> Pin #3, V -> Pin #1, and W -> Pin #2. The pin number 4 is not connected on the spindle, but we recommend that you connect PE (Protective Earth Ground) from the VFD to the spindle. This wire can be connected to one of the screws on the connector on the spindle.

Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • wire size to connect Frequency converter to 2.2 KW Router?

We use 16 AWG (American Wire Gauge) to connect the 2.2kW Spindle to the VFD (Variable Frequency Drive also called the inverter. Since there are three coils, the 2.2kW (2200 watt) spindle will draw 10 amps total or 3.33 amps per coil. 16 AWG will be more than enough capacity to handle 3.33 amps.

  • [575] Hi, I plug HY 220v spindle on the board. It work, but the is a unstable frequency on the spindle. I put shielded wires from BOB to Inverter, and from Inverter to Spindle. But the problem still there. I read that I have to put a Analogue PWM, is that true, or I have problem with my wires... Thank you

You may want to try using a ferrite core or an inductor in addition to the shielded cable. Also, make sure you are grounding the shield at both ends. Even though this is not high frequency, grounding the shield at both ends in a motor scenario may help. Also, try to reduce any parallel wire runs.

  • Do you sell 22 to 24 AWG stranded and shielded for wiring of the limit switches and E_Stop?

The wire that we sell for the limit switch wiring is here: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/3d-printer-component-cnc-electronicsandmotors-cable-wire-3-conductor-22-awg-wrcon-cablewire3conductor22awg

This is shielded cable to make sure there isn't any external interference with sensitive components and long wires associated with limit switches. This is necessary due to the interference caused by the motors on a CNC router and the milling process.

    Additional Information:
So unshielded is cool. That's what I was curious about. Cheers.

    Additional Information:
Absolutely. It's really the only type of cable I would recommend for connecting limit switches.

  • Is 1000W voltage converter (110V to 220V) enough for 2.2kW spindle?

Ideally, the spindle VFD should use an actual 220V socket that contains the minimum amp fuse that will allow the appropriate draw for all of the items that will be plugged into that socket. If you elect to use a boost converter, the 2.2kW spindle VFD will need a 2200 watts or more.

My brother is using 1000W and told me his spindle is working just fine. Is it safe to use 1000W ?

    I still can't recommend using a 1000W converter.

  • DO NEED TO GET THE BIG PLANING BIT OR SURFACING AND GO OVER SPOIL BOARD MAKE SURE THAT IT IS PERFECTLY LEVEL IN RELATION ROUTER?

Yes, that is highly recommended for all the reasons you can imagine. Say you were doing engraving, not surfacing the spoilboard will either exhibit some areas that have no engraving at all, or areas that have engraving that is too deep. If you are cutting completely through the material, then one end may be cut all the way through but the other end will not have a complete cut, or produce onion skinning on the bottom of the workpiece.

  • On the wiring diagrams for the 220v inverters I noticed that there is one hot (220) a neutral and a ground. Will the inverter work with the American split phase system? Hot (120) hot (120) ground?

Our 1.5/2.2kW spindle will work with both setups, in our wiring diagram it is more seen as the Euro/AUS-style, however you can do the same thing with the North American style as well. Also depending on if you have single or three phase 220V, you can use pins R, S, T. A manual will arrive in the VFD box, which will have further information and diagrams.

Please seek a certified electrician if you are unsure of any aspect in wiring the spindle or VFD, since wiring to main lines will require wiring of the plug and main lines to the inverter and to avoid any damage or injury's while installing the 1.5/2.2kW spindle and VFD combo.

  • HOW CAN I DETERMINE THE DOSE EQUIVALENT (MREM/HR, MREM/WK, MREM/YR) USING RAW DATA FROM A TLD (THERMOLUMINESCENT DOSIMETER) THAT WAS PLACED IN AN OFFICE FOR 22 DAYS?

Assumption 1: The "raw data" of 24 mrem on the TLD is the total dose received by the TLD during the 22 days that the TLD was deployed in your office. This means that (1) any TLD reader background signal has been properly subtracted, (2) the signal accumulating in the TLD during any transport or storage time between preparation (annealing) and deployment in your office has been properly subtracted and, (3) the signal accumulating in the TLD during any transport or storage time between removal from your office and processing (reading) has been properly subtracted.

With this assumption, the total dose rate in your office is (24 mrem)/(22 days), or 1.091 mrem per day. The reference background is given as 63 mrem per year which is (63 days)/(365.25 days per year) or 0.172 mrem per day. Thus the average net dose rate to the TLD during the 22 days was (1.091-0.172) = 0.919 mrem per day.

Assumption 2: The net dose rate of 0.919 mrem per day in your office is attributable to the accelerator or other regulated sources under the control of your institution.

Assumption 3: The office occupancy factor of 1/4 attributed in your question to NCRP Report 49 was misread from Table 4. The correct occupancy factor given in NCRP 49 for offices is 1.

Assumption 4: You take 20 business days per year off for vacation and holidays. You work in your office for the remaining 240 days per year.

Assumption 5: All of the accelerator shots occur while you are in your office.

Assumption 6: The average net dose rate of 0.919 mrem per day determined during the 22 days of measurement continues for a year.

Based on the data that you provided and my assumptions, your annual dose received in your office from the accelerator or other regulated sources at your institution is predicted to be (0.919 mrem per day) x (240 work days per year) = 220 mrem.

  • WHILE RESEARCHING A NEW CORDLESS PHONE TECHNOLOGY (DECT [DIGITAL ENHANCED TELECOMMUNICATIONS] 6.0), I SAW REFERENCE TO POTENTIAL BRAIN DAMAGE AND/OR CANCER DUE THE RADIATION FREQUENCY AND PULSES FROM THESE DEVICES.

There has been a lot of public concern around the world about potential health effects from using mobile phones. This concern has spilled over to other cordless phone technologies and indeed to many other devices that transmit radiofrequency energy.
Scientists have been studying possible health and biological effects of radiofrequency energy since World War II and even before, and the literature at this point is very large. Since the 1990s many studies have been conducted on possible health effects of mobile phones. I am not aware of any studies that have searched for possible health effects of DECT phones specifically, but DECT phones operate in a generally similar frequency band and at similar average power levels as many mobile phones.

Health agencies around the world have repeatedly examined the scientific literature and have found no clear evidence of health effects from use of mobile phones, or indeed from any exposures to radiofrequency energy at levels below international exposure guidelines. But these agencies also point out the limitations to the data (for example, lack of data regarding long-term use of mobile phones) and they all call for more research. The most recent report on this subject is by a group affiliated with the Health Protection Agency of the United Kingdom (U.K.) (http://www.mthr.org.uk/documents/MTHR_report_2007.pdf).

Some activist groups (such as the one whose website you cited) claim that there are health hazards from mobile phones and other sources of radiofrequency energy at levels below international exposure limits. Such claims are not reflected in opinions of health agencies including the U.K. Health Protection Agency, the World Health Organization, and other major health agencies.

That said, if a person is concerned about possible health effects of a cordless or mobile phone, he or she might consider using a hands-free kit (which reduces exposure to the head) or simply not use such a phone at all.

My inquiry is for the Planet CNC USB and 5v relays.
I am 99% finished with my 2 axis lathe build and this is the last item for me to conquer.
I want to control power to router, and vacuum with the BOB going through the 5V relays purchased on this site.
    Thanks again.

Using the Mist, spindle or flood pins...

    Buildyourcnc response:
There is an IN, GND and 5V for the digital side to engage the relay. There is an S, O and P for the power line of the device to be controlled.

The 5V and GND must be connected to the 5V and GND from the USB board. The IN is the wire from the output terminal (i.e. mist, flood, spindle).

For the power side, here are the scenarios:
    - P to O connection is normally open
    - P to S connection is normally closed

So, if you have the power wire that would plug into the wall, the L "black" wire from the power cord will pass through this part of the circuit (cutting the wire and one end in the P terminal and the other end in the O or S terminal). Generally, the P to O is used as this connection is normally open and when the relay is engaged, the circuit will close allowing the current to flow through that wire.

For this reason, on August 5, 2010, ACIP recommended that Afluria, 0.5 mL, licensed for use in people age 36 months and older, not be used in children younger than age 9 years. ACIP further recommended that Afluria could be administered to children ages 5 through 8 years who are at high risk for influenza complications if there is no other age-appropriate TIV available, after risks and benefits of using this vaccine in this age group have been discussed with the parent or guardian. The vaccine should not be given to children younger than age 5 years. For detailed information, go to www.cdc.gov/media/pressrel/2010/s100806.htm.
