Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • USPS does not recognize my address -- and your phones are never answered!

The blackTooth is a laser cutter/engraver, and its current design directs the beam in 2 dimensions (X and Y) over the surface of a workpiece which is assumed to be lying flat beneath the laser head. There is no mechanism to move the Z-axis directly. There is likewise no direct provision to move either the workpiece or the laser head for a 4th or 5th axis of operation because that would change the optical path and/or the focal point. However, you could certainly add a 4th axis to move a workpiece beneath the laser head -- it would be an interesting project, and if you do it we would like to see pictures.

The ability of the software to support this addition depends upon which software you are using. If you are using a breakout board and machine control software designed for conventional CNC mills, such as Mach3, LinuxCNC, or PlanetCNC, then the answer is yes, the software will support the 4th axis quite easily. If you are using the integrated laser controller, the adaptation would be more difficult.

  • My build looks like black toe, used chain #25 and your idler sprockets, but small holes are not round

If possible, will you be able to take pictures of the holes that our not round, and send them to customerservice@buildyourcnc.com.

Furthermore is this CNC build a machine of ours? If it is not our blackToe 2' x 4' it may be one of our blueChick's 1' x 3' (https://buildyourcnc.com/blueChickVersion42CNCMachineKit.aspx), or blackFoot's 4' x 8'(https://buildyourcnc.com/blackFoot48v40.aspx).

  • Using USB Controller Board with Planet-CNC software. The S/W recognizes limit switches but not soft limits. Help?

"Soft limits are used to decelerate machine to stop before machine is stopped hard way at limit switch or before it crashes. I recommend "Soft Limits Decelerate" and "Soft Limits Strict" settings are also checked. Sometimes we need to disable soft limits and there is a command for this in menu "Machine/Soft Limits". When soft limit is triggered position display will be yellow."

Are the soft limits "grayed out"?

  • CNC hardware and Plans and the does not want to pay for Customs coming into his country.

Try slowing your feedrate down and increasing spindle RPMs. End-mills will leave a poor finish if you go too fast. Make sure your cutting depth isn't too much. Maybe the endmill or cutter is blunt? Could it be the feed direction of the cutter? Some materials need to be fed in a certain direction.

  • I'm new to CNC and just finish building my router.I need software for my post processor and not sure if your product is what I need?

You will need a CNC software that will control your router cnc machine, and your design CAD/CAM software will need to know the CNC software you plan on using so the post processor in the CAM software can create the g-code for the CNC control software. So if you have for example, Mach 3 and our parallel breakout board, you can use the Mach 3 post processor in your design software.

  • My computer does not communicate with AWC608 and LaserCAD

If you are getting the "Communicating Unsuccessful!" error when you are trying to communicate between LaserCAD and the AWC608 Laser Cutter and Engraver controller (after you have already tried installing the USB driver from the LaserCAD setup procedure), these are the steps you will need for a successful communication:

    - Open the Device Manager window (right click on the start menu and select Device Manager)
    - When you plug the USB cable from the AWC608 Laser Cutter Controller (USB Type B connector) to the computer, you should see a new item in the Device Manager, possibly under "Ports (COM & LPT)", or under "Other Devices". It may show as an item under "Other Devices", possibly FT245R and has an "!" in a yellow triangle.
    - Download the latest FTDI drivers from: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm
    - Unzip the files to a folder that can be easily browsed.
    - Right click on the item that appeared in the Device Manager when the cable was plugged in between the Laser Cutter AWC608 controller and the computer.
    - Click on update driver
    - Select the procedure to manually install the driver and browse to the folder containing the FTDI driver and follow the step in the driver installation wizard.
    - The item should now be located under the "Ports (COM & LPT)" and should be named "USB Serial Device (COM#)". The # will be the number you will use in the LaserCAD software.
    - In the LaserCAD software, click the "Select Mode" at the far top right of the Laser CAD user interface.
    - Make sure USB mode is selected.
    - If the Machine name with the correct COM number is listed, select it and exit the dialog window. Otherwise, click on "Add" and fill in the details with the new COM number.

  • Will your 2.5 KW spindle work with my Hitachi WJ200-022SF VFD and does it have a thermal couple temp output?

From reading on the Hitachi WJ200-022SF VFD, it seems as it will work just fine with this VFD. However since we have not tried this cross match, I would carefully take each connection and setting into great consideration and detail on both the Hitachi recommendations for setup, as well as our spindles recommended setup.
Our spindles do not have a thermal couple temperature output.

  • Laser; does your new laser controller uses the stander g-code files??

No, the laser controller does not run standard g-code. Instead it uses a version of a printer control language which provides optimal results when processing detailed images and designs. If you need or want to control your laser with g-code, however, you can do so by running it from a computer using a standard machine control software. You can even set your laser up to operate both ways. Feel free to contact us directly if you need help sorting through your options.

  • I decided to connect 5v directly to my usb breakout board, but when I plug the usb cable in, the planetcnc app does not recognize it and the green status light does not come on. I've confirmed that it is getting exactly 5v, and the jumper is removed.

We apologize for this issue, we had a mistake with the labeling on the board! If you reverse the GND, and the 5V on the Alt-power the power will work and the board will be recognized by Planet-CNC.

Once again we apologize for this issue!

    User response:
Thanks - glad it is an easy fix! You guys should update the docs - perhaps on the item description for the future confused.

    Buildyourcnc Team:
We updated the product page to reflect this error. Many thanks!

    Response:
FYI - to anyone who reads this - reversing the polarity on the 5v alt power will indeed damage the board, though not immediately.
