  • Is there a wiring diagram for hooking up your hex inverter between your USB breakout board and the controller?

The use of the hex inverter in the application to invert a direction signal to have a motor run in the reverse directions is relatively simple.

First, go to this link and look at the chip diagram:
    https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-hex-inverter-breakout-newbiehack-integrated_circuits-hex-inverter

Connect 5V from the USB interface tothe VCC pin. The pin on the keyboard jog header can be used. Connect the GND pin from the USB interface to the GND pin on the hex inverter. Connect the CW terminal from the USB interface to the 1A pin on the hex inverter. Connect the 1Y pin from the hex inverter to the driver.

  • I need wiring diagram for motor to driver to usb motion card. I cannot find diagram. I have been unable to get information for a week.
  • I have the USB controller board and the 8825 step driver. I need a wiring diagram between the two. Specifically, what does the GND pin on the X-axis connect to? Also, what does the 5V pin on the driver connect to?

If you want speed control, it is recommended to use the RS-485 connection on the VFD and use the control program such as Mach3 to communication serially with the VFD using this RS-485 connection.

If you would rather use a controller such as the PMDX-107 to simulate the effect of a potentiometer using the Aref, Aout and Agnd and the Rev/Dir and Fwd/Run terminals to control operation and direction, you can connect those to the VFD.

PMDX-107 Aout connects to the VI (analog voltage in). This is like the wiper on a potentiometer.
PMDX-107 Agnd connects to the ACM terminal on the VFD for Analog common.
PMDX-107 COM connects to DCM terminal on the VFD for Digital common.
PMDX-107 Fwd/Run connects to the FOR terminal on the VFD for Forward.
PMDX-107 Rev/Dir connects to the REV terminal on the VFD for Reverse.

Refer to your PMDX-107 manual to correctly configure your dip switch settings and make sure to calibrate (tweak) the speed control using the trimmer next to the terminals on the PMDX-107.

  • I have the USB controller board and the 8825 step driver. I need a wiring diagram between the two. Specifically, what does the GND pin on the X-axis connect to? Also, what does the 5V pin on the driver connect to?

You can find a wiring diagram here:
    https://buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-electronic-component-USB-Controller-Breakout#prettyPhoto/2/

The CP terminal is wired to the step terminal on the 8825 step driver.
The CW terminal is wired to the direction terminal on the 8825 step driver.
The GND terminal connects to the GND on the 8825 step driver

The 5V connector on the driver simply powers the logic side of the chip and needs to connect to VCC pin on the keyboard jog.

  • Signal and 5v power wiring diagram for 5v relay and USB Br about board.

Here is the wiring diagram for the MAch3 USB breakout board:
    https://www.buildyourcnc.com/Documents/Electric%20Wiring%20Diagram.pdf

You will need 24 volt relays for the output on that board since that side of the board requires 24 volt power at the V+ and V-

    Customer Response:
My inquiry is for the Planet CNC USB and 5v relays.
I am 99% finished with my 2 axis lathe build and this is the last item for me to conquer.
I want to control power to router, and vacuum with the BOB going through the 5V relays purchased on this site.
    Thanks again.

Using the Mist, spindle or flood pins...

    Buildyourcnc response:
There is an IN, GND and 5V for the digital side to engage the relay. There is an S, O and P for the power line of the device to be controlled.

The 5V and GND must be connected to the 5V and GND from the USB board. The IN is the wire from the output terminal (i.e. mist, flood, spindle).

For the power side, here are the scenarios:
    - P to O connection is normally open
    - P to S connection is normally closed

So, if you have the power wire that would plug into the wall, the L "black" wire from the power cord will pass through this part of the circuit (cutting the wire and one end in the P terminal and the other end in the O or S terminal). Generally, the P to O is used as this connection is normally open and when the relay is engaged, the circuit will close allowing the current to flow through that wire.

  • please send wiring diagram for the 1500kw spindle and inverter combo. i need to see what additional things need be purchased. thanks.

Please refer to the Spindle wiring diagram found on the product page for the 2.2KW spindle. The wiring diagram will be the same for the 1.5kW Spindle. The only difference will depend on if you are using 110v or 220v power, as setting PD008 asks you to specify the max voltage.

  • What is the wiring configuration for limit switches on the laser controller?

If you are using the AWC708 or equivalent laser controller, the limit switches will connect between the EL input terminal and the GND terminal in normally open (NO) connection. Most limit switches can be connected as NO, or normally closed (NC).

For instance, a limit switch for the X- limit will be connected from the ELX- terminal to the NO connection of the limit switch, then a connection from the GND terminal on the laser controller to the COM connection to the same limit switch.

  • I have a planetcnc USB controller to run my project and when I start the 240v router the USB connection shuts down.

The USB controller will only work with the Planet-CNC software. This software is well made and will provide great functionality. The planet-cnc software delivers instructions to the microcontroller on the board and the microcontroller will send out the pulse trains needed to move the machine correctly.

There are two main alternatives if you want to use the mach3 software:
First, get a parallel port card and add it to your computer and get a parallel breakout board. If you have a laptop/notebook computer, this will not be possible.
Second, if you have a laptop, or really want to use the USB as the main interface for controlling the machine, you will need to get the smoothstepper board which works with mach3. The price combination is much higher than the USB controller with planet-cnc, but will work with Mach3.

    Additional Information:
The planet cnc controller can be prone to electrical interference and has been known to cause such problems. In the first instance try to use a quality double sheilded USB cable, hopefully this will fix your problem. Alternatively you may need to sheild your limit switch, estop and or motor cabling. My pick is that a quality USB cable will fix it though, worked for me.

  • I need wiring instructions for the ST- USB MOTION CARD
  • is everything included in the 4axis cnc kit to build a cnc control box like wires, connectors, wiring diagrams ect?

The electronics combos come with stepping motor drivers, stepping motors, breakout board (interface between the computer and the drivers) and power supply. The electronic combos do not include the cable and wires since the mounting configuration can differ from application to application.

The wiring diagrams are located on the product page for each product. For instance, to determine the wiring for the motors, go to the specific motor that you purchase and the datasheet will be available which will include the wiring configuration. The breakout board product page will contain the wiring diagram for the remaining electronics. You can also use the electronics videos found here (https://buildyourcnc.com/CNCElectronicsandWiring.aspx) to understand the best process to connect all of the electronics.

  • Yawl sold me a ST-USB MOTION CARD I have surched all your electronics and can't find wring instructions I need to know where to connect X,Y and Z to this controler

To connect the stepper motor drivers to the Mach3 USB interface card, you will need to follow the wiring diagram here: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/Documents/Electric%20Wiring%20Diagram.pdf
which can be found here: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-electronic-component-breakout-Mach3-USB-Board along with all of the other manuals associated with that interface card.

Please note that the DC+ and DC- on that wiring diagram (power supply to thye stepper motor drivers) is not correct. The DC- is connected to GND on the drivers and the DC+ is connected to VCC on the drivers. Typically, the DC+ on the power supply is labeled V+ and the DC- is labeled either COM or V-.

If you are having any issues with the wiring, please let me know and I will elaborate. Thanks.

  • Do you have a wiring diagram for a 3 axis system using your compotents. It would be nice if it showed the estop, limit switches,relays...

Depending on the Breakout board that was purchased with your electronics combo, either USB or Parallel:
    USB: https://buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-electronic-component-USB-Controller-Breakout#prettyPhoto/2/
    Parallel: https://buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-parallel-breakout-relay#prettyPhoto/2/

These will have the inputs labeled on the board itself, for example:
USB will have the inputs for all the axis from X, Y, Z, A, limit switches.
Parallel there will be 4 inputs 10, 11, 12, 13, 16(relay). Which can be used as E-stop, Limits (for all axes if wired in a closed loop), and one relay for a spindle control on/off via mach 3 or mach 4 or a specific relay control that you desire.

  • Need wiring diagram from mach3 USB breakout board to inverter.

I suppose you are trying to determine how to connect the VFD tothe relay on the breakout board. This is possible, however, not recommended as there is a more robust way to connect the VFD to mach3 or mach4 that allows that CNC machine control software to control the speed and other features of the VFD.

Follow the instructions from this question (number 13383):
    https://buildyourcnc.com/FAQ/13383

To get to this answer, you can also ask this customer service "How can I connect my spindle's VFD to mach3?"

  • I am using 5 limit switches on my 3 axis machine. I am using the usb controller for planet cnc. I would like to know where all the wires related to the limit switches get connected? A diagram would be helpful.

The diagram for wiring the USB interface board is located here: https://buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-electronic-component-USB-Controller-Breakout#prettyPhoto/2/

Under the board illustration, there are three smaller diagrams of limit switch wiring. On each, there are two connections, the GND and the pin which are labeled at the ends of the circuit on the diagrams. The pin side would go to the axis label ++ or -- terminal (i.e. X++, or X--). The other end, labeled GND would connect to any ground terminal on the board.

  • Do you have a wiring diagram for your breakout board and the SuperPID?

It is not necessary for a wiring diagram for the breakout board to the SuperPID controller since you are only going to connect two wires from the breakout board output terminals of your choosing to the SuperPID controller. The only thing remaining is to configure Mach3 so that the spindle control section serves as the SuperPID controller.

To setup this configuration in Mach3, go to your ports and pins dialog box (config menu -> ports and pins). Click on the spindle setup tab. In the Motor Control Section of the dialog, check the box for Use Spindle Motor Output and check the box for PWM control. Change the PWM Base Frequency to 50Hz.
