Question #: 3451

Question: do i get the source code and circuits of the electronic

Current Solution

Our CNC electronics offer wiring diagrams on the breakout board or interface product page. Each motor has a datasheet that depicts a wiring configuration. See the product pages of the device you would like to see the datasheets and wiring diagram.

If you are referring to the electronic circuits that we produce in-house, the firmware source code is not available, but we can provide the schematic upon request by email or phone call during business hours.

  • THEY ARE ASKING FOR THE ACTIVATION CODE AND SERIAL NUMBER USB BOARD. HOW CAN GET THAT INFORMATION?

To get the activation code, all you need to do is plug the USB board into the computer using a USB cable, go to machine -> firmware -> update. After the firmware is updated the program will present to you a dialog box containing the activation code.

  • My x and y motors are on each end of my gantry do I wire each motor to the same XP

I'm not sure what you mean by XP. Can you clarify? Thanks.

All stepper motors must be wired to their own stepper motor driver. If two motors need to be driven by one signal (say there are two X motors) then the two drivers will be connected to same CP (pulse or step) and CW (direction) pins on the control interface. If the two motors need to turn in opposite directions, then swap the A and B coil connections.

  • How do I keep the lead screw from moving back and forth?

The lead screw needs to be stabilized axially. The lead screw should turn, but not move any other way. The method to keep the lead screw stable is to use two bearings with ID (inside diameter) that match the diameter of the lead screw. The bearings are positioned before and after a stable structural part. A collar is positioned at one side of the bearing assembly and another collar, or end of a coupling is positioned at the other side of the bearing assembly.

    Additional Information:
How many times do you need to turn the handle to move the lead screw 1 inch?

For our 5 start 10 tpi, the lead nut will travel one inch with two turns of the lead screw.

  • WHAT DOES THE GREENBULL KIT INCLUDE AND DO I NEED TO INCLUDE?

The greenBull 4X comes with all of the components and electronics to assemble the gantry of the machine. You will need to build the table. We provide the rails and roller chain for the X-axis (along the length of the table for full 8 feet of travel). You will need to provide some wire to connect the electronics and a computer to run the machine. You will also need to purchase the software that you will need to run the machine that matches how you will apply the machine. We suggest the mach3 control program. The CAM program is up to you as there are many options out there.

  • [575] I cant get a 5v signal on any of the Outputs on the board. what Port# and Pin #s should I be using on Mach3?

The Mach3 USB controller does not provide 5V output signals. The Inputs, Outputs, and PWM Spindle Speed terminals are separated from the 5V side of the board. The output terminals use the 24V portion of the controller and you will need a 24V power supply to make these outputs work.

Please watch the video below to completely understand how the outputs of this controller work. Make sure that you are using the RNRmotion.dll plugin and that the port for each of the outputs is set to port 3.

  • [575] How do I get the USB Driver to work with Mach3 Version 1.84

    What problems are you experiencing?

    Additional Information:
Are you able to install a newer version of Mach3? If you are worried that your configuration will be lost, you can save the configuration by copying all of the XML files from the Mach folder. The XML files contain all of the settings that you applied in Mach3. Just in case the XML files are not compatible with the new version, make sure not to erase the current Mach3 that you have on the machine.

  • why do I get the message "RnRMotion.dill was blocked because this type of file can harm your device"?

Rnrmotion.dll is a dynamic link library that is very similar in function to an executable program, or app. Since a dll is executable, malicious code can be embedded in that type of file, so windows will automatically flag all files of this type. You just need to make sure you are downloading from a trusted source. The emotion.dll file on our site is clean, but still, run windows defender against it to make sure.

  • What kind of wire should I use between the invertor and the spindle?

The type of wire that should be used between the spindle and the VFD (Variable Frequency Driver also called the inverter) should be of stranded type and we use between 18 and 16 AWG.

The total current is divided among the three coil wires, therefor a wire gauge of 16 should be sufficient.

Currently we use 20AWG 4 conductor.

  • how long should I expect a team of 2 to assemble and get it running?

You will need to build the table unit for your machine. There are instructions on how to do this at the bottom of the product page here, https://www.buildyourcnc.com/Item/cnc-machine-blackFoot-v4
There is no estimate on how much this will cost though, since there are too many variables involved to do this.

    - PC with parallel port and USB port
    - 20awg stranded wires for the motors - http://www.buildyourcnc.com/electronicscombo.aspx
    - 18awg stranded wires for power supply to drivers
    - 24awg stranded wires for breakout board to drivers
(location and spacing of components varies from one person to another, so we do not provide cables/wires)
    - General purpose extension cord (cut the female end off) to provide power to power supply
    - USB cable to power breakout board
    - Parallel cable to communicate to breakout board
    - Router
    - (optional - instead of router) Spindle with power inverter http://www.buildyourcnc.com/SpindlesAndAccessories.aspx
    - (if purchasing spindle with inverter) General purpose extension cord (240v) (cut the female end off) to provide power to power inverter
    - End Mill(s) http://www.buildyourcnc.com/ProductsEndMills.aspx
    - CAD, and/or CAD-CAM software (to produce geometry, machine operations, and g-code) http://www.buildyourcnc.com/CNCsoftware.aspx
    - CNC control software (to read g-code and control machine) http://www.buildyourcnc.com/CNCsoftware.aspx

This answer is applicable to most of our machines with the exception of the greenLean and the blueChick since those machines are equipped with a table structure.

  • When I run a file with a lot of z movements, the Z seems to get lower

Sounds like it is stalling as the z is trying to move up. I would first try putting 3-in-1 oil on the screw and run the z up and down a lot as fast as possible so you can confirm the z is capable again. It could also be the shaft or the lead screw slipping in the coupling. Finally, check the wiring where there may be zip ties or other places where the wires are fastened and look for chafing. This can cause intermittent shorts in the wires.

  • How do I cut on the inside of a polygon using CAMBAM?

The apply a machining operation that cuts along the inside of a polygon, you will need to use the profile machining operation located at the top of the user interface, the first icon in red to the left. Hovering over the icons will inform you of what machining operation the icon represents.

Select the polygon and click on the profile icon. A new profile operation will be created in the left drawing pane (outline of machining operations). Underneath the drawing pane, there is another pane with parameters for the profile listed. Find the Inside/Outside parameter and click just right of that parameter to change the setting to inside.
