1.5kW Spindle with Inverter (220 Volt)
$429.00
1.5kW Spindle and Inverter (110 Volt) OUT OF STOCK
$529.00
Introduction:

This is a 1.5 kilowatt spindle which roughly translates to 2.01 HP. The spindle comes with the inverter (Variable Frequency Drive) that accepts 110v or 220v depending on the option selected.

Description:

Do not attempt to wire your VFD or spindle on your own. Consult with a professional electrician before following the diagram.

The spindle is water cooled which requires a water pump and silicon tubing. We are using a 300 gal/hr pump that can be purchased from the home improvement store submerged in a bucket of water, but a chiller can also be used.

The inverter will show the frequency and can be controlled from the computer. The inverter does come with an instruction manual. The spindle with inverter can also run in forward or reverse and up to 400Hz. Note: connecting the inverter to mains power will require wiring of the plug to the inverter. We recommend seeking a licensed electrician for this part of the wiring.

The spindle, by itself, weighs 8.66 lbs.The diameter of the spindle cylindrical body is 80mm, so when finding a mount, use an 80mm mount.

Collet Size for 1.5kW Spindle: ER11

DIY tramming a cnc router Tramming the Router or Spindle (Making Sure it's Perpendicular to the Table)
Tramming the head (spindle or router) of a CNC router can be done with a simple old machinist trick using a long bar bent in a special way so that you can very accurately ensure the router or spindle is perpendicular to the bed (table) of the CNC machine.
Demonstration of Spoilboard Surfacing with an Onsrud Surfacing Cutter
The video below is a quick demo of us doing a bottom clearing on our CNC machine using our new Onsrud Spoilboard Surfacing Cutter. It's generally a good idea to resurface the spoilboard when you first set up your CNC machine. This will make sure the spoilboard surface is perfectly parallel with the X/Y motion of your machine. You should also resurface every so often as the spoilboard surface becomes more uneven over time. This is a better alternative to replacing the board every time it becomes worn down. More in-depth videos on this process later...
Some Information about End Mills (Rotational Cutters) for CNC Machines
I receive a healthy dose of questions about end mills and which ones that I use. I usually respond with answers like, my end mill will probably differ from your end mill. So, what is this thing called an end mill anyhow? If you are new to CNC machining and routing, you may have never heard of the thing. I could imagine googling something like, "CNC bits". Using the terminology "bit" is not all that incorrect. Bits are commonly referred to as drill bits, but routers use router bits. If you're looking to cut various metals and composites, end mills are the tools of choice. However, end mills will also work on wood, depending on the type of end mill selected.
