Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • Will it be possible to only buy the CNC plans, I live in South Africa and shipping is very expensive...

    The files and hardware option for our machines has been removed from the site due to the following reasons:
    Difficulty for the end use of the files and the challenges (and time/money) on our side to assist in using these files.
    The abuse of these files over the internet.
    Ultimately may reduce the sales of machines keeping us in business.
    Sadly, this is what has come out of our company attempting to be open; however, the machines sold on this site is still far lower in price than the competition for the quality that we provide as we have a great desire to engender the cottage industry to fulfill their need for low end manufacturing. My sincere apologies if this causes any inconvenience.

    Additional Information:
    NO, is not possible, I can help with the shipping cost

  • HOW DO ADDRESS THE DANGER OF THESE CNC MACHINES

    These machines are inherently dangerous. Before the machine moves, the machine should be clear of any person by a dimension of at the distance of a persons reach plus a few more feet. This is the policies we institute in our shop and what is recommend to all of our customers. Treat these machines as you would treat any major power tool in the shop.

    With that said, you can certainly add some protective parts, but still keep folks away even with those installed. I would use the gantry side to do all of the mounting of the protective parts. Consider using sheet metal that you can bend and make a simple installation right on the gantry side.

  • Is it possible to increase the Z axis on the Blacktoe 2x4? My ideal would be to have 8" of travel.

    Increasing the size on your Z-axis is possible by making the over z axis longer (rails, wood structure). Remember the location of your router/spindle and over all integrity of the z-axis structure.
    Now another way of getting a longer reach is making a adjustable height table, so that you can raise or lower the material section(2' x 4') to add taller material or get a deeper cut.

  • Shipping cost for CNC kits to Europe using Amazon is 75% cheaper, but do these kits automatically come with 220v inverters instead of 110v ?

    Prices on amazon are fixed costs for shipping. The website generally reports high costs for international shipments but we can give you a better quote if you care to email sales@buildyourcnc.com

  • [575] Hi, for the manage the limit switches, is it possible to have, for example, the same limit switch for X-- and X homing? And what is the configuration in mach3? In my CNC machine they are in the same position. Thank you

    Absolutely! You can have almost unlimited limit switches and home switches on this controller. It all comes down to the wiring scheme used. I recommend the home switches be on separate input terminals. For example, IN1 would have the X home switch, IN2 would have the Y home switch and, IN3 would have the Z home switch if you plan on using home switches for the Z axis.

    Adding the limit switches, these can be located on any input you want, even on the IN1, 2 or 3. The wiring scheme I like to use is as follows:
    - IN1 has the X home, X limit ++, and X Limit --
    - IN1 has the Y home, Y limit ++, and Y Limit --
    - IN1 has the Z home, Z limit ++, and Z Limit --

    In most cases, the Limit -- is the same switch as the Home switch.

    These can be wired as NC (Normally closed) as a serial scheme, or as NO (Normally open) as a parallel scheme.

    To understand the limits and wiring schemes, check out this video:

  • CNC Wood Lathe project - Would like to have the guts to a 2 axis DIY lathe. Can you let me know of a possible one stop shop solution? Would like it to be at least 40" on the X axis.

    There are many possible options for making a lathe. Typically, a lathe is run by a spindle at the head stock (which you can find here https://buildyourcnc.com/SpindlesAndAccessories.aspx) which will rotate the object rather than a fourth axis, however you will need to create or buy the clamp mechanism of a regular lathe to hold the object in place. You will be able to control the on/off either manually or via software, but the speed (RPM) will have to be controlled manually.
    You can create a more indexed alternative to a lathe by using our rotary axis at the head stock (found here https://buildyourcnc.com/item/axes-4th). either way, the tail stock center can be found here https://buildyourcnc.com/item/axes-4th. This will give you full control of the turning via software.

    You will want to use linear rails and their associated bearing blocks (found here https://buildyourcnc.com/item/mechanical-rails-HIWIN-Linear-20mm and herehttps://buildyourcnc.com/item/mechanical-rails-linear-guide-rails-20mm) to run along the length of the item being turned and you will need linear rails to be run perpendicular (towards and away) to the object being turned that would hold either the blade (for a traditional lathe) or a spindle (for the indexed version containing the rotary axis).

    Where you have linear rail, you will also need lead screw (found here https://buildyourcnc.com/item/mechanical-leadscrews-lead-screw-!5-5-starts-10-tpi) to transmit motion using motors (and drivers) of your choice also with various options (found here https://buildyourcnc.com/category/nema and here https://buildyourcnc.com/category/driver). You will need 2 - Drivers (either 3.0A or 6.0A, the 6.0A driver will be for our larger motors hence you will have more torque available) and 2 - Motor's (either our Nema 24's or Nema 34's, the Nema 24 will work with our 3.0A driver while the Nema 34 will work the 6.0A)
    To control these motors, you will need a parallel breakout board and Mach 3 software to control the two axes (or three with the rotary axis) found here https://buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-parallel-breakout-relay and https://buildyourcnc.com/item/control-SOFTWARE-mach3.

    You will need couplings to couple the lead screws to the motor shafts (found here https://buildyourcnc.com/couplings.aspx). All of the miscellaneous hardware you need can also be found here https://buildyourcnc.com/Hardware.aspx.

  • In the 3 Axis Electronics Combo, what is the AC input of the power supply (110v or 220v??). is it possible to specify a certain voltage when ordering?

    In our 3-Axis electronics kit, the power supply's provided are capable of both 110V-220V. You have the capability to switch between both in case you might decide to run 220v in the near future or will relocate where 110v is being used.

  • looking at woodsmith CNC and wanted better understand how it is wired. is it possible to get better wiring diagrams or manuals?

    There is a wiring diagram in the instructions on the following page:
    https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-electronic-component-breakout-Mach3-USB-Board

    In the instructions, you will find the wiring diagram and further instructions below that with greater detail on how to connect the various features of the Mach3 USB controller that is used in the Woodsmith article.

    Note in the wiring diagram that COM- is the DCM terminal and COM+ is the 24V terminal.

    Additional Information:
    I built one of those and complained to Woodsmith about the wiring diagram. They said the vendor changed boards after the article went to press. Don't trust anything in their diagram. They even got the power supply wired wrong. I had to view the instructions from buildyourcnc to get things working. You will fry you drivers if you do anything that is referenced in the woodsmith article. While I did get it built and working, I had to make modifications on many of the dimensions to get it put together right. They make no mention of the tight tolerances required or how square and level everything must be. The beast works but the publication leaves you dangling when it comes to the important details after you get it built.

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO MOUNT THE NEW EXTRUDER WHITEANT?

    Mounting the extruder to the whiteAnt can be done a couple of ways. One is to take the 4 mounting holes located at the lower portion of the z-axis rail support and use long screws protruding out. Take a thinner material and drill the four holes matching the locations of the 4 screws and screw on nuts to hold it in place. The other option would be to use the metal bracket and fasten to the edge of the rail support.
