Question #: 13792

Question: Is there a recommended break in process for a 2.2kw water cooled spindle?

Current Solution

A break in process, I'm guessing means if the spindle needs to be turned off for some reason? If so, then no. The water cooled spindle can be run constantly. We run our spindle for very long periods of time.

  • Are there any special instructions regarding connecting water lines to the 2.2k spindle?

    There is no specific manner in connecting the water lines to the spindle. No specific output and input locations, only the diameter which we use is 1/4 Inside Diameter and 3/8 Outside Diameter (you might find another one that works just as well).
    Unscrew the 2 hose nuts and feed the tube through (will be snug), and adjust the tube on the hose fittings and screw the hose nuts down. Feed the tubes through your machine towards the water bucket, making sure it will not get caught on any moving parts and cause a jam/leak, and fit one tube to the outlet of your water pump and leave the other tube to the bucket as a return line. (unless you are using a cooler like a radiator, then feed it to the outlet of the radiator and to your water pump)

  • I HAVE A 2.2KW WATER COOLED SPINDLE WITH YL620-H VFD. THE VFD USES P#-## PROGRAM FORMAT. BELIEVE ALL CORRECT SETTINGS SETUP BUT WHEN TURN UNIT ON, IT SPINS AT ABOUT 200-300 RPM REGARDLESS OF WHAT FREQUENCY CHOOSE. DO YOU PARAMETERS IN THIS FORMAT FOR UNIT? THANK YOUR HELP. HUIBERT MEES

    You will need to look for the parameter that controls the run frequency. The frequency can be controlled bu the panel, external terminals, or the RS485 TX/RX terminals (UART protocol). You will want to change that parameter so it uses the panel. If you are referring to the maximum panel dial frequency is only allowing 200-300 rpm, then look for the parameters to control the frequency.

    For 200 RPM:
    Hz = 200/60 = 3.33 Hz

    For 300 RPM:
    Hz = 300/60 = 5 Hz

    Conversion to RPM:
    If you ever find yourself yearning to reverse-engineer the process, the formula is as follows:

    RPM = Hz × 60

    Look for values that match somewhere between 3 and 5 in your frequency parameters and replace them with 400 to give you 24,000 RPM max.

  • INFLUENZA VACCINE RECOMMENDED FOR PREGNANT WOMEN?

    Yes. It is especially important to vaccinate pregnant women because of their increased risk for influenza-related complications. An increased risk of severe influenza infection was also observed in postpartum women (those delivered within the previous 2 weeks) during the 2009–2010 H1N1 pandemic. Vaccination can occur in any trimester, including the first. Only inactivated (injectable or TIV) vaccine should be given to pregnant women.

  • I HAVE THE REDFLY SYSTEM AND A 2.2KW SPINDLE - 110V HOW DO CONNECT SPINDAL?

    It is not necessary to connect the spindle VFD (Variable Frequency Drive also called an Inverter) to the computer or CNC motion electronics. The VFD can be controlled independently using the control panel on the VFD. The control panel has the ability to control all aspects of the spindle including Speed, Torque, limits, etc. However, you can connect the VFD to the computer so the CNC control program can control the spindle during the CNC Machine operation. You will need to connect the VFD to the computer via a serial conection (in this case, it is the RS-485 protocol).

    The following are instructions on how to connect the VFD to Mach3 via this RS-485 serial connection.

    The first thing you will need is the dynamic link library to pair with mach3 called the Huanyang VFD Mach3 PlugIn. You can find this file at the mach3 support forum here: http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,14182.0.html

    You will also need to download the Microsoft .net 3.5 framework and install it: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21

    Follow the pdf that comes with the library file, but here is a synopsis of what you need to do (I also added a lot more information that may be useful during this process as the manual does not cover the main connections that need to be done):

    You will need to program your VFD so that it knows how to communicate with mach3 and the computer (go into the programming mode of the VFD and change these parameters):
    - PD001 - value 2 - Enables with communication aspect of the VFD
    - PD002 - value 2 - Enables frequency control from the communcations port
    - PD163 - value 1 - VFD address
    - PD164 - value 1 - Baud rate of 9600 (speed of the communication)
    - PD165 - value 3 - 8N1 RTU - 8 bits (that's the size of the word that gets communicated), N (No parity or no error checking) and 1 (1 stop bit)

    Copy the dll file to the PlugIns folder of mach3.

    Connect the RX and TX lines to your computer. There are a couple ways you can do this, but the recommended way would be to use an FTDI USB device which converts a USB to a serial com port. The device will have Rx and Tx connectors to connect to the VFD terminals with the same labels. This method is recommended since serial ports are not as common in computers these days.

    Next, you will need to configure mach3 to use the plugin library. Start mach3 and click on Menu -> config ->Config Plugins. Enable the new plugin by clicking on the red cross on the left column next to the plug in. Restart mach3 after doing this.

    No you need to configure mach3 to use the HuanyangVFD plugin. Go to the ports & pins configuration and select the spindle setup tab. Make sure that the Disable Spindle Relays checkbox is unchecked. We don't want mach3 to output a signal for a relay since the spindle will start up and turn off within the VFD and not from an external relay.

    Next, go to the HuanyangVFD settings by clicking on Menu -> plugin control -> HuanyangVFD. Set the parameters to the same settings you put into the VFD programming. The com port will be shown as new hardward when you plug in the USB FTDI device. A little bubble will be displayed at the bottom right where it will notify you that a new device is being installed (be patient while windows assigns a com port). Alternatively, you can use the windows device manager to see which port was set for the new USB FTDI device). You may need to restart mach3 several times until you get the correct information displayed in the PD001 and PD002 fields. When the com port is correct and the other parameters, like baud and VFD address is the same as you entered in the programming, then the PD001 and PD002 will show the number 2, otherwise, a 99 will appear which means that communication was not successful.

    You can now control the on/off and RPM of the spindle using the RS485 communication between mach3 and the VFD.

  • WHAT ARE CURRENT RECOMMENDED IEEE EMF OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LEVELS AND GUIDELINES FOR RADIO BASE STATION ANTENNAS?

    The following answer assumes "radio Base Station Antennas" refers to base stations used for personal wireless communications services such as cellular telephone, Personnel Communications Services (PCS), and Enhanced Specialized Mobile radio (ESMR). In the United States, the frequency band allocated for base stations used for personal wireless communications is 869-894 MHz for cellular service, 851-866 MHz for ESMR, and 1930-1990 MHz for PCS. The IEEE exposure limits (maximum permissible exposure—MPE) for occupational exposure (controlled environments where exposures may be incurred by persons who are aware of the potential for exposure) are frequency dependent and are expressed in terms of incident power density. The appropriate value to compare with the MPE is the incident power density averaged over the vertical cross-section of the human body. The occupational exposure limits are also time-averaged over any six-minute interval. The IEEE C95.1-1991 MPE values are shown in the table below:
    IEEE C95.1-1991 Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) Values
    Frequency Band Power Density
    General mw/cm2 W/cm2
    851-866 MHz f/300 mW/cm2 2.84-2.88 28.4-28.8
    869-894 MHz f/300 mW/cm2 2.90-2.98 29.0-29.8
    1930-1990 MHz f/300 mW/cm2 6.43-6.63 64.3-66.3
    NOTE: f is in MHz
    As indicated above, these values are for continuous exposure (t > 6 minutes) and are to be compared with the spatial average of the incident power density. all base stations used for personal wireless telecommunications services in the United States are required to comply with the FCC limits (as mandated by the Telecommunications Act of 1996). The FCC limits are based on a hybrid of the IEEE limits and the 1986 recommendations of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements. The FCC MPEs are the same as the IEEE values for frequencies below 1500 MHz but are capped at 5 mW/cm2 (50 W/cm2) for frequencies greater than 1500 MHz.

    Both the FCC and IEEE MPEs for exposure of the public (uncontrolled environments) are one-fifth of the above values. As above, the value to compare with the MPE is the incident power density averaged over the vertical cross-section of the human body. The averaging time for the general public is 30 minutes. Thus, for transient exposures lasting six minutes or less, the MPEs for occupational exposure and exposure of the general public MPEs are the same. For cases of simultaneous exposure from antennas operating in different frequency bands, the ratio of the spatially averaged incident power density in each frequency band to the corresponding MPE for that band is determined and the sum of all such ratios must be less than unity in order to comply.

  • [801] Is this enough rating for a Nema 34 motor with max 6 amps? Also what about a 220V 2200Watt Spindle?

    For the NEMA 34 stepper motor with a maximum current of 6 amps, 18 AWG wire would technically be sufficient. According to the American Wire Gauge (AWG) standard, 18 AWG wire can handle up to around 10 amps of current in chassis wiring and around 16 amps in power transmission. If you are considering running a very long length of cable from the driver to the stepper motor, you may want to consider using 16 AWG.

    As for the spindle, this wire gauge is well-suited. There are three phase shifts, each at 120 degrees and each conductor is carrying only 1/3 of the power. At 220v, 2200 watts / 220 V = 10 amps. 1/3 of 10 amps is 3.333 amps, so each conductor will be have a load of 3.33 amps.
