Question #: 14137

Question: wiring the Huajiang yl6000 inverter to mach 3

Current Solution

1) Acquire a 5 or 6 conductor wire cable of generous length to fit between your Mach30 controller and your VFD (Variable Frequency Drive). The wire gauge should be somewhere between 18GA and 22GA. Maximum current draw will be under 20 milliamps. Cable may also be shielded and/or twisted pairs.
2) Wire #1 from controller ground to VFD XGND (DC ground)
4) Wire #2 from controller output defined as (MACH3 output#2) to VFD FWD input
Note This will give you the ability to start and top the spindle.
5) Wire #3 from controller analog ground (Speed circuit) to VFD GND.
6) Wire #4 from controller analog speed output to VFD VI1 (Speed control voltage).
7) Wire #5 from controller Analog speed 10V or 12V input to VFD 10V or VFD 13V output. (Analog supply voltage).
8) Program the VFD to accept external start and stop control with front panel STOP.
9) Program the VFD to accept external analog speed control for zero to ten volts input.
The above wiring will allow you to start and stop the spindle, and set the spindle speed. You will have control both from G-Code and Mach3 front panel control, including manual On/OFF and percentage control.
Note: Modbus control is very difficult and fussy to set up, and you lose mach3 front panel manual control.

Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • Need wiring diagram from mach3 USB breakout board to inverter.

I suppose you are trying to determine how to connect the VFD tothe relay on the breakout board. This is possible, however, not recommended as there is a more robust way to connect the VFD to mach3 or mach4 that allows that CNC machine control software to control the speed and other features of the VFD.

Follow the instructions from this question (number 13383):

To get to this answer, you can also ask this customer service "How can I connect my spindle's VFD to mach3?"

    Additional Information:
If you still want to connect the VFD through the relay, I will clarify this instruction on this question tomorrow as I don't have the information in front of me at this moment. Thanks.

  • WIRING THE BLACKTOOTH LED PANEL TO PARALLEL BOB

The blackTooth build instructions explain how to hook the four LED control panel to the USB breakout but not the Parallel BOB. Turns out it's very easy. Simply wire the corresponding LED cathodes (top pins on the display) to the matching CP- for the X, Y, and Z axises and wire the anodes (bottom pins) to the 5V terminals. For the on/off LED, wire the cathode to the G terminal on the laser power supply and the anode to the 5V laser supply terminal. Also, remove the 5V wire running from the Parallel BOB to the 5V terminal on the laser power supply. It is not needed and will cause the laser on/off light to always be on if the USB cable is connected.

  • HOW DO YOU SETUP THE SPINDLE INVERTER VFD?

Change PD001 Source of Run Commands to '1'
Change PD005 Max operating frequency to 400hz
Change PD004 base frequency to 400hz
Change PD003 Main frequency to 400hz
Change PD006 Intermediate frequency to 2.5
Change PD008 max voltage to 220v
Change PD009 Intermediate voltage to 15v
Change PD010 Min voltage to 8
Change PD011 frequency lower limit to >100hz (120hz to start)
    Change PD142 7 Amps
    Change PD143 2
    Change PD144 3000

Note: PD001 had to be changed back to 0 to allow for keypad control.
Note2: I had to reverse U and V to get the spindle to go forward in FWD. (reverse any two wires, u&v or w&v for example)

  • WHAT ELECTRICAL CABLE DO I USE TO CONNECT VFD INVERTER SPINDLE?

The type of wire that should be used between the spindle and the VFD (Variable Frequency Driver also called the inverter) should be of stranded type and we use between 18 and 16 AWG.

The total current is divided among the three coil wires, therefor a wire gauge of 16 should be sufficient.

Currently we use 20AWG 4 conductor.

  • WHERE ARE THE ELECTRONICS WIRING VIDEOS?

The blackFoot CNC machine kit does not include a table. The table can be made as long or shot as you need. for instance, if you are looking for a travel of 4 fet x 4 feet, then the table will need to be about 6 feet long to get the full 4 feet of travel.

The electronics are very straight forward using the connection diagram for the breakout board that you select. Use the videos for a general idea and then use the connection diagram to verify the correct connections for the interface of your choosing.

Yes,the USB interface replaces the breakout board, but remember that you will need to use the planet-cnc software with the USB interface.

    Additional Information:
The electronics does accompany the cnc machine kits as long as you select the option "with electronics". There are option to purchase the machines without electronics and that would be necessary if you either have your own electronics, or you prefer the plug and play cnc computer system we call the redLeaf, or redSprout. This will also be necessary if you prefer the electronics that use the USB interface rather than the parallel interface.

  • Will Mach 4 work on the Controller board that is meant to run Mach 3?

The Mach3 USB board found here: https://buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-electronic-component-breakout-Mach3-USB-Board

Is not designed to work under Mach4. The Mach3 USB uses a plug-in in Mach3 to function as an interpreter, sending pulses and signals to electronics from commands sent to the board from Mach3. This plugin would need to be updated to be able to work under Mach4 but the board manufacturer would need to do this update. So far, there is no plug-in that will work for Mach4 and this board.

  • [76] Im having a problem getting Mach 3 to control the spindle on and off

If you are using the Mach3 USB controller:

Make sure to watch this video:

If you are still having issues, make sure to confirm that you send the specific output you want to use to PORT 3. This is not mentioned in the video. If you are using OUT1 on the controller, make sure to remove that pin number from the Motor outputs (config -> ports & pins -> motor outputs) for the spindle line and set it up in the outputs (config -> ports & pins -> outputs).
