Question #: 14684

Question: You state "If you purchase cabling, we will solder the cable to the spindle and connect the cable to the VFD." I didn't see that when I purchased my spindle and vfd. If I place an order for the wire and another female adapter, will you please solder the connector to the wire?

Current Solution

When did you purchased the VFD and spindle? We only started this after the date of the instagram post that offered this added service.

Additional Information:
I purchased it July 16, 2020 however due to all the 2020 issues, I'm just now completing my CNC and hooking up the VFD and Spindle.

Additional Information:
The service started on Sept 23, 2020. Your order was prior to that.

The soldering is straightforward. If you wish to have me provide this extra service, feel free to send the unit back with the cable and I will solder the cable and do the parameter check and test the VFD and spindle.

Additional Information:
When I purchased my VFD and Spindle, I forgot to purchase the wire for the spindle. I had an electrician run a 220 line and hook up the VFD. But I don't have the wire for the spindle. I'd like to get the one you recommend and just pay you for another connector and the soldering.

Additional Information:
Can I purchase the one you spindle wire you recommend and just pay you for another connector and the soldering.

  • HEY ! I HAVE PURCHASED A VFD WITH MATCHING SPINDLE 1.5KW AND CONTROL PROGRAM UCCNC. MY INTERFACE CARD IS DB25, THE QUESTION HOW DO CONNECT TO DB25 SO THAT CAN SPEED UCCNC? SINCERELY "CNC BEGINNERS"

Identify the Control Signals: First, determine which control signals from the DB25 interface card are used for spindle speed control. Typically, these are PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signals or analog voltage signals.

VFD Configuration: Your VFD should be configured to accept the type of control signal your DB25 card provides. This involves setting parameters in the VFD that correspond to the type of input signal it will receive for speed control.

Wiring: Connect the appropriate output pins from the DB25 card to the input terminals on the VFD. This usually involves connecting the PWM or analog output to the corresponding input on the VFD. Make sure to consult the manuals for both your VFD and interface card for specific wiring details.

UCCNC Settings: Configure UCCNC to output the correct type of signal (PWM or analog) that matches your VFD's configuration. This is done through the software's spindle setup section.

Test and Adjust: Run some tests to ensure that the spindle speed is being correctly controlled by UCCNC. You might need to tweak settings in either the VFD or UCCNC for optimal performance.

  • I purchased a 2.2 spindle a while back and went to the electrical supply house to but shielded cable for the power run, I was on the web a while back and saw a picture of shielded cable that didn't look like what I had bought. should it have a copper like mesh wraped around the inner insulation. Thanks

Many shielded cables come in various materials and designs, so having one with a copper mesh covering the inner insulator wire is no problem. We currently use a extension cord found locally at a hardware store and include one 18G wire for ground. So a specific shielded cable is not a required, unless being used next to specific and sensitive electronics that are extremely sensitive to noise and voltage interference than a shielded cable is required.

  • The gantry mounted spindle water cooler pump that I purchased does not operate no matter how I connect the three wires to the two wire power supply.

The 12V power supply has 3 terminals for AC in: N, L and earth ground. The output of the 12V power supply has 2 DC + and - terminals. Cut the connectors off of the ends of the fan and pump wires. Strip the red and black wires of both units. The fan will connect to the 12V power supply red to the + and black to the -. The pump will connect in the same way, but the white is not connected.

If you have a pump that has a grey and black wire on the large connector, the grey is the 12VDC V+ wire and the black wire goes to the V-. The extra wire does not need to be connected.

  • I bought a 1.5kw spindle that came with the ER11 6mm collet. I found collets for 1/4" and 1/2" but will these work with my existing nut? I see there is a nut for sale but it says its just for Bosh and Porter Cable etc.

It is likely that if your Spindle's collet is ER11 specification than other size ER11 collets will work with your spindle.

  • I purchased the 4.0kw spindle and VFD a while back, and have just installed a PMDX-107 controller... do you have any examples of the wiring connections for the SL-240EE to PMDX-107?

If you want speed control, it is recommended to use the RS-485 connection on the VFD and use the control program such as Mach3 to communication serially with the VFD using this RS-485 connection.

If you would rather use a controller such as the PMDX-107 to simulate the effect of a potentiometer using the Aref, Aout and Agnd and the Rev/Dir and Fwd/Run terminals to control operation and direction, you can connect those to the VFD.

PMDX-107 Aout connects to the VI (analog voltage in). This is like the wiper on a potentiometer.
PMDX-107 Agnd connects to the ACM terminal on the VFD for Analog common.
PMDX-107 COM connects to DCM terminal on the VFD for Digital common.
PMDX-107 Fwd/Run connects to the FOR terminal on the VFD for Forward.
PMDX-107 Rev/Dir connects to the REV terminal on the VFD for Reverse.

Refer to your PMDX-107 manual to correctly configure your dip switch settings and make sure to calibrate (tweak) the speed control using the trimmer next to the terminals on the PMDX-107.

  • When I start my spindle I get a emergency stop in Mach 3. I have run shielded cable and it is grounded at the VFD it is wired per you site instructions. any idea what to check

You will definitely want to adjust your debounce setting in mach3 if your emergency or limit switch is engaging.

  • I've buffered a PWM signal to a 0-10V analog signal and I would like to use that signal to run your 110V 2.2kW spindle and VFD. Could you please detail the correct wiring and VFD settings to get that working?

This will depend on the VFD you have to identify the correct terminal. The terminal on the VFD will be labeled AI1 typically (Analog Input #1). You will also need to make sure to complete the PWM circuit using the GND terminal on the VFD.

    Additional Information:
I have wired my 0-10V signal to the AI1 and GND terminals as suggested. I have also set the PD-01 and PD-02 settings to 1. Still nothing. Is there something else that I am missing?

    Additional Information:
Thanks for the information. Can you let me know the model of the VFD that you have?

    Additional Information:
    VFD Model # YL600-2S-2K20

    Additional Information:
Thanks. I will check our resources and documentation to see if there is another programming setting that needs to be changed.

    Additional Information:
Does your VFD have a VI terminal?

    Additional Information:
No, it does not. The terminals for this VFD are as follows (seperated by dashes "-").

    10V-AI1-AO2-PLC-DI5-DI3-DI1-COM
    AI2-GND-AO1-DI6-DI4-DI2-FM-24V

    Additional Information:
Do you have a PD070 parameter?

PD070 is the main Analog Input parameter.

The options for that parameter is:
    0: 0-10V
    1: 0-5V
    2: 0-20mA
    3: 4-20mA
    4: 0-10V (4-20mA Stacked)
    5: XIA
    6: (VI+XIA)/2
    7: (3VA+XIA)/4
    8: (XIA_XIB)/2
    9: Max (XIA, XIB)
    10: Min (XIA, XIB)

    Additional Information:
    There is a PD-00 thru PD-09. PD-07 is currently set to 0.

    Additional Information:
It appears that the manual I’m using “Titled YL600” is not the same as your unit. I will check our manuals and find the one that has only PD-00 to PD-09.

    Additional Information:
For that VFD, the parameters are P0. The 0 may look like a D on the display.

  • I recently received missing stop button and limit switches in my 5x kit. Thank you. Is there suppose to be any bulk wiring in kit for limit switches and 2.2 spindle? If not could you please describe correct gauge wire for both? Cheers.

The hookup wires you will need is 22 to 24 AWG stranded and shielded for the wiring of the limit switches and E_Stop. Our kit customers select various places for these switches, so we don't supply the wiring. If you don't use shielded cable, you will need to change the debounce setting in Mach3 (if that is the control program you are using).

We typically use 14 AWG stranded wire for the VFD to Spindle (U, V, W) connections.

That is a very loaded question that could be replied in so many ways. I will need a more specific question to help you. For instance, I have my machine moving in different directions, but I don't know how to make the machine move according to g-code instructions. Another question could be, I connected all of my electronics and the motors are not moving and I did all of the steps on the electronics video to troubleshoot the problem.
