  • WHAT DOES THE GREENBULL KIT INCLUDE AND DO I NEED TO INCLUDE?

    The greenBull 4X comes with all of the components and electronics to assemble the gantry of the machine. You will need to build the table. We provide the rails and roller chain for the X-axis (along the length of the table for full 8 feet of travel). You will need to provide some wire to connect the electronics and a computer to run the machine. You will also need to purchase the software that you will need to run the machine that matches how you will apply the machine. We suggest the mach3 control program. The CAM program is up to you as there are many options out there.

  • DOES THE SOFTWARE WORK ON A MAC?

    There are several CAD/CAM programs out there for MacOS. Here is a list of a few: http://www.macuser.de/forum/f53/3d-2d-cad-395058/#post4499316
    I've also read good things about punchCAD: http://www.punchcad.com/
    Of course, there is always SketchUp if you are in a pinch. There are a few CAM plugins for SketchUp as well, but I've never used them, so I can't vouch for them.

    CAD/CAM will get you as far as designing your parts and producing the g-code, but if you also want to run the CNC machine with your Mac, you will need a piece of software similar to Mach3 or EMC to run the g-code. I haven't been able to find anything like these programs that runs on Mac, so you may have to run Mach3 or EMC in Windows using Boot Camp or a virtual machine such as VMware or Parallels.

    Personally, I would use the Mac to do all the CAD/CAM, then use a cheap PC to run the CNC machine.

  • HOW MANY SIDES DOES A TRIANGLE HAVE?

    The triangle has three (3) sides. The triangle is a polygon that contains three sides and three inner angles and three vertices.

    Additional Information:
    But if a triangle have a front and back side wouldn't the triangle have 5 sides

    Additional Information:
    Interesting slant (pun). A triangle would have 5 sides if the triangle had a thickness and became an object. A triangle drawn on paper with three lines would still only have three sides. A triangle is a primitive form of geometry (polygon) that can only have three sides in its simplest form. If you add complexity to the triangle with a thickness and count two more sides, then it really isn't the simplest form of the triangle anymore and it becomes another geometrical 3D primitive like a triangular prism.

    Additional Information:
    A triangle has multiply answers for number of sides but is made up of 3 lines.. this is because when connecting the 3rd line to form the shape you create an "inside". so you could say a triangle has 2 sides, an "outside" and "inside" or you could say 4 sides, an "inside" and 3 "outside facings" or 6 sides 3 "outside facings" and 3 "inside facings". none of these answers are incorrect technically. the important thing is that a triangle is made up of 3 inner angles adding upto 180 degree's.

    Additional Information:
    A triangle has 6 sides, there are 3 straight edges in AND out side of a triangle.

    Additional Information:
    I am fairly sure that a triangle has 12 sides (3 insides and 3 outsides on each side).

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SHIP

    Unfortunately I am not able to give an estimate of shipping time. This is because there are multiple shipping options, Some of them cost more than others, but ensure the package arrives in a certain number of days. Others do not give a number of days, and many factors could change the length of shipping time, such as weather, or busy season. It would be best to choose an option you are comfortable with the price of, and then Google search the typical times it takes for that option to get to you, or call the shipping company and request that estimated time from them.

  • Does the DAC card do scaling?

    Can you please clarify which product you are referring to? USB controller or Parallel Breakout Board?

    Additional Information:
    The parallel breakout board. I have redFly with the GreenBull and I'm trying to control the spindle with LinuxCNC. The LinuxCNC spindle page you copy and pasted into my previous question doesn't answer any of the questions I asked. The redFly came without any paper work or documentation so I don't know if it has a DAC card or not. In the StepConf program of LinuxCNC you have examples on your LinuxCNC page of how to control the axes but nothing to control the spindle. Assigning spindle on to pin 14 does nothing.

    Additional Information:
    Typically, we use the relay on the parallel board to turn on the spindle. The RPM is handled by the manual setting on the VFD.

    Additional Information:
    If you need the speed to be handled by LinuxCNC, you will need to use the RS-485 TTL method.

    Additional Information:
    To connect your computer to the VFD, use a USB to RS-485 interface. RS-485 is just a serial interface protocol that uses standard 0 to +5 voltage TTL signal levels for communication (as opposed to RS-232 which uses -12v and +12 for signal level changes).

    Get a high quality interface to reduce any issues during the process. The VFD should have two terminals labeled RS+ and RS-. The USB to RS-485 adapter should have this labeled on it as well so the connections should be relatively straight forward.

    In the VFD parameters:
    PD001: 2 to accept RS485 commands
    PD002: 2 to accept frequency comands
    PD163: 1 to RS485 slave address:1
    PD164: 1 RS485 baud rate 9600
    PD165: 3 8bit, no parity, 1 stop bit

    Make sure LinuxCNC is also set accordingly:

    The PIN14 and PIN16 in the stepconf wizard should be set to unused because you don't want LinuxCNC to be outputting unnecessary signals.

    In the options step of the stepconf wizard:
    - Check the Include Halui user interface component.
    - Check the Include custom PyVCP GUI panel.
    - Check Spindle speed display

    You will want to edit the custom.hal text file located in the folder that was created from the stepconf wizard. Add these following lines:
    loadusr -Wn vfd hy_vfd -n vfd -d /dev/ttyUSB0 -p none -r 9600
    net spindle-cmd-rpm-abs => vfd.speed-command
    net spindle-cw motion.spindle-forward => vfd.spindle-forward
    net spindle-ccw motion.spindle-reverse => vfd.spindle-reverse
    net on motion.spindle-on => vfd.spindle-on

    The dev folder in linux is typically used for interfacing devices and peripherals to the computer as these devices are communicated by simple memory addresses and these files are linked directly to these addresses.

    Under the custom_postgui.hal file, change this line:

    from: sets spindle-at-speed true
    to: net spindle-at-speed => cfd.spindle_at_speed

    and add the line:

    setp vfd.enable 1

    When you start LinuxCNC, you will a spindle section with the reverse and forward buttons, a stop button and - and + buttons. Use these buttons to conform that the spindle is functioning properly. The spindle speed indicator in LinuxCNC will show the spindle speed and you can confirm that this is equal to the speed indicated on the VFD.

  • HOW LONG DOES THE TUBE LAST?

    The average lifespan of a tube is 1000-1500 hours IF ran at a max of 16mA for most of it's life. It's life will go down if you run constantly at it's max rating.

    CO2 laser tubes also have a shelf life. So make sure to only buy a replacement tube close to when you plan to install it, keeping it on a shelf for the future will only compromise it's life span.

    To measure your amperage going through your system. You go from the negative line of the tube and run it THROUGH your multimeter/ammeter and back out to the laser PSU. This will give you your amp usage. It will not hurt your multimeter either. Just be sure your connections are very snug since 20,000V is liable to arc very easily if a connection comes loose.
