If you are using a Parallel port card plugged into the motherboard in a PCI slot, or other compatible slot that interfaces directly to the microprocessor, you will need to make sure that the correct I/O address is entered into the configuration for your control software.

This I/O address is the first one in the range that Windows, or other operating system, will provide when accessing that information. In Windows, you would need to access this information in the device manager. Select the LPT port that is associated with the added parallel card. The port address will need to be in hex form, not decimal.

Other technical information that may help to understand the process:
The operating system will provide the address range, the first will be associated with pin 1, and the remaining addresses in the range will associate to the remaining pins (excluding the gnd pins) of the parallel port. This provides high and low signaling for each pin when a one is applied to the address. This is the reason the parallel port is called parallel, since each pin is independent and can output, or receive input simultaneously.

You can wire many limit switches on only one pin. You will need to use the NC (Normally Closed) configuration. By using NC, it is like wiring a single wire from the single pin back to ground and when the limit switch is engaged, it breaks the link (like cutting the wire). If you have, say 6 limit switches, then if any one of the switches is engaged, the connection is broken.

Would you sell a kit that has all of the hardware and electronics with CNC plans for the table and gantry? Some of have access to a CNC temporarily (TechShop) but want one of our own.

We apologize for the confusion, however in the very first video that is regarding the assembly, is of the torsion box. We do not included that in any greenBull kit, as we use too sell it individually! However due to high consumption of materials and high cost(both in shipping and for the kit itself) we have removed it from our inventory and no longer sell it.

This video can be skipped, however if you plan on making a DIY torsion box, this video will be helpful in your build!

The torsion box is not needed, as the frame itself will be more than sufficient in keeping the machine from flexing or vibrating.

I ordered the GreenBull 5' x 10' kit. The first video for assembly shows that I should have 5 large boards that attach to the table, but I don't have those boards. Is that something I need to build or were they not shipped?

The connections between the driver and the breakout board(USB/Parallel)22-24 AWG wire is preference also going from the potentiometer going to LSPS(laser power supply) , now going from the power supply to the drivers/laser power supply 16-18 AWG wire is our preference.

what I receive w/ 5' x 10' CNC machine kit and what additional items I would need to have a fully operational machine?

Cutting aluminum is not a problem with our machines, as long as it is acquainted with a decent aluminum end mill and spindle, and the feedrates and speeds are being follow from the manufacture of the end mill.
Now to have a 3" cutting depth, it is possible even up to our smallest machine (blueChick). I would recommend our blackToe due to the fact that you will have a bit of playing room if any other projects or requests might arise.

Do you have a cnc kit that can cut 2-3" deep aluminum blocks and costs <$3,000?

These machines are inherently dangerous. Before the machine moves, the machine should be clear of any person by a dimension of at the distance of a persons reach plus a few more feet. This is the policies we institute in our shop and what is recommend to all of our customers. Treat these machines as you would treat any major power tool in the shop.

With that said, you can certainly add some protective parts, but still keep folks away even with those installed. I would use the gantry side to do all of the mounting of the protective parts. Consider using sheet metal that you can bend and make a simple installation right on the gantry side.

THE CNC MACHINE IS UNSAFE WITH EXPOSED SPROCKETS THAT CAN DAMAGE FINGERS AND HAVE CLOTHING CAUGHT IN IT.

a 2' (24 inches) diameter workpiece for a 2'x8' machine may be a bit too much for an overhang. I would recommend the 4'x8' that can house a 4th axis in a cavity within the limits of the machine for a 24-inch part. If you need the rotary axis on the side of the machine, I can design a machine that would work.

Our CNC machines can be lengthened to work with our customers specific projects.

For a 3.5' x 14' cutting surface, I would recommend our greenBull 4X! (4'x8'). You will only need to add the remaining length of rail(4) and chain(2) to accommodate the additional 6Ft, so this machine will have a cutting surface of 4' x 14'.

The parallel (printer cable) port is uses the computer as its main source of pulse trains to operate the motor driver directly. Parallel ports are a direct connection from the processor commonly referred to as GPIO pins (General Purpose I/O pins) and provides a convenient and powerful way to interface with the computer. The parallel breakout board is included in those kits only to condition those signals for use with the drivers.

The USB serves at the actual controller, sending the pulse trains, but the computer sends simple human readable instructions to the USB controller to tell the controller how to send pulses.

The non-technical differences that may serve as the most important information to you is that the parallel configurations allow for a wider variety of industry standard software that can be used to control the cnc machine. The USB that we offer requires the operator to use a software called Planet-CNC software which is a very well made and feature full cnc control software.
