Question #: 3616

Question: The instructions for the 3-axis combo at https://buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-3axis-425-elcombo seem to be missing. Can you look into that.

Current Solution

To wire the CNC electronics, use the tutorial for the specific interface board you are using.

If you have the parallel breakout board, use this tutorial:
https://buildyourcnc.com/CNCElectronicsandWiring.aspx

If you have the USB interface board, use this tutorial:

Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • On the blackFoot 4'x8' CNC machine do you have the instructions under one file that I can download, I want to print them out and make notes as I am building the machine.

WE don't have an actual file that contains the instructions for the machines as they are a part of a larger database file that is queried during the product page's rendering in the browser. The best option would be to print the webpage on a printer and use that as notes.

I know this will not provide larger images, but you could use the paper version to write your notes while assembling the machine using the larger images on the website.

  • Why are the instructions for assembly so difficult to follow at times? Thins seem out of sequence and the pictures do not line up to the sequence that the build foillows-especially with regards to wiring certain components
  • Also on the 3 axis combo, the last item on the tutorials page points to wiring instructions and links to videos. The (I assume) written instructions do not load and the videos seem to be unavailable

There are written instructions located at each component (product) page. On the page for your interface board, you will see a datasheet that shows the wiring diagram from that board to the drivers, limit switches and computer. On the page for the stepping motor that you have, there is a datasheet that shows the wiring scheme from the motor to the driver and also has the amp rating for configuring the driver.

  • How do I know how to hook up the red fly? What color wires do I solder on which pin of the connectors? Was there suppose to be any instructions that came with it, or the entire greenbull for that matter?

The greenBull instructions are found on our website. Each machine has a page, which you can locate by clicking on "CNC Machines" from the left hand menu and choosing the particular machine you have. Scroll to the bottom of that machine page and you will find complete instructions. The page for the greenBull 5X, for example, is : https://buildyourcnc.com/Item/cnc-machine-greenBull-v4-5X

The redFly is typically sold with motors already wired to conductor cable with 4-pin connectors; these need simply to be plugged into the control box. There is no soldering required. If you have a different configuration, please contact us directly at techsupport@buildyourcnc.com with information about your specific application (and a photo, if possible) and we will be happy to provide you with further guidance.

  • I purchased the blackTooth Laser Engraver with integrated Laser Control Unit and have been following your instructions. I noticed that the laser tube power supply is different that what is shown in your instructions. Do you have any better wiring guides that I can follow for the version that I received?

There is some variation in the outward appearance of laser power supplies due to sourcing through different vendors. However, the basic wiring requirements are the same in each case. For the unit with integrated laser controller, follow the diagram found here: https://buildyourcnc.com/blackToothLaserCutterAndEngraver.aspx#prettyPhoto/0/. The terminals on the signal side will have a 6 connection terminal block -- these are the ones labeled 5V, IN, G, P (or WP), L (or TTL-L), and H (or TTL-H). The High Power side will have 3 inputs for AC power, one high voltage lead, and one return line. Connect these as shown in the diagram as well: the return line goes on the "front" (beam exit end) terminal of the laser tube, the high voltage lead goes to the "back" terminal of the tube, the FG terminal (or G) receives the earth ground wire of the AC power cable, and the two AC terminals receive the line and neutral wires of the AC power cable (it doesn't matter in this case which wire goes to which terminal).

  • I purchased the original instructions about 3 years ago and successfully built that device. Now I am looking at the 13X36 Bluechick base kit. Will all my original electronics work with the new kit? Is there a parts list that you could send me for the 13x36 Kit?

Depending on the type of motors and connection type, you could adapt your motors to work with our electronic packages, but you will receive additional motors since our kit is complete.

Now you will have to take into affect the actual motors you have and compare or get accurate replacements(Ex. our 425 oz motor(1/4" input shaft) will have to be same size or similar entry holes)

Your Controller board will be the major issue, due to its wiring and processing manner, you can view the connections for our breakout boards to compare with yours! • I can't find any information in the BlackTooth instructions about how to connect the 8 wires from the LED display to the parallel breakout board. The two going to the pot seem, in the illustration, to be soldered together and to the centre terminal of the pot? Help, please.

To connect the parallel port breakout board to the LEDs, use step number 18. The connections are listed at the bottom. Here it is for your convenience.

For the LED connections on the parallel breakout board:

    - The x axis LED will be connected to pin #2 and 5V
    - The y axis LED will be connected to pin #4 and 5V
    - The laser on/off LED is connected to pin #6 and 5V

  • There are no instructions on how to assemble the laser control unit housing that came with my 40w blacktooth laser kit. How can I get instructions for how to assemble the control interface housing? Every configuration I try blocks the wire connection ports.

What laser controller model number do you have?

    Additional Information:
Hey - the model number on the laser controller is
    AWC708C
    S/N:708014243

    Additional Information:
Thanks for the model number. I am going to fabricate the parts and put it together myself to see the issue. We made this modification to the blackTooth laser cutter to better house the new laser controller that we wanted to add to the laser, but that may have been for the AWC608. If there is an issue with my assembly, we will create a new part that will correct the issue and send it to you.

Sorry, that is a paste from a spread sheet, you may have to do some formatting or paste it into a spread sheet to see it better...

    Additional Information:
I will definitely do that. Thank you so much for providing the information!!

    Additional Information:
I also have this problem with a yl620. Is there a solution?

    Additional Information:
Is there a wiring diagram for the 110v units. My came with a 220 volt booklet.

    Additional Information:
my unit also came with instructions for a 220 unit. I need a 110 wiring diagram.

    Additional Information:
These instructions are lame at best, a friend of mine ordered one of these to install on a knife grinder that I built for him, and I proceeded to setup the unit, upon connecting it to the motor, it runs the motor, but hunt's at the lower speeds, and the setting I am looking for just isn't in the list, there's some settings in the 14's that don't say what there for, can anyone help?

I received a VFD 110v yl600-2s-2k20 p 110v with 220v instructions, also the connectors on the VFD dose not match any wiring configuration you have.

  • Your book built stepper motors have different wiring colors than what you have in your instructions about pairing the wires. Do you have an updated version?

Our book is a bit outdated with our current stepper motors we have for sale, however the motors recommended for our scratch build kit (same as in book) is our 425-oz motors with 8 wires (https://www.buildyourcnc.com/Documents/PN.SM60HT86-2008BF-U%20(inhouse%20PN.60BYGH303-13)%20(1).pdf) now you will join the 8 cables in pairs that will convert it to 4 wires. Wiring: Red and Blue to A+, Yellow and Black to A-, White and Brown to B+ and Orange and Green to B-.

  • From your assembly instructions, it appears your table top is 3/4 thick. I planned to use a thicker table at 1 1/2 thick. I realize I will need longer bolts to attach the x-axis guide rails, but will the y-z gantry adjust for a table that thick? I am building a BlackFoot.

I apologize but the gantry legs will only be able to accommodate 3/4" thick table top (gantry sides to be specific(https://buildyourcnc.com/blackFoot48v40.aspx#prettyPhoto/28/)).This is due to the available adjust ability on the gantry legs between the v-groove bearings that ride on the top X-axis rails, and the ones that tighten on the lower rails.

The Y-axis (width of the table) will have no problem with the table top being thicker, but the X-axis rail screws and gantry legs will not accommodate the 1"- 1/2" table top.

  • HOW DO I WIRE THE 4TH AXIS THAT YOU SELL. I HAVE MACH3 SOFTWARE. NO INSTRUCTIONS ON YOUR SITE

The motor that is attached to the 4th axis is wired as follows:

The motor should have red, green yellow and blue wires coming form the motor. The red and green are paired as one coil and the yellow and blue is paired as the other coil. You can wire the motor to a 3.0 amp driver with red to A+, green to A-, Yellow to B+ and Blue to B-

  • Hello - I am having trouble understanding the instructions for the wiring of the Blacktooth CNC machine, especially the last sentence in instruction 2. Is there a circuit diagram somewhere? Another part of the instructions refers to a wiring diagram at the "end of the instructions". I can't seem to find this. Hope you can help...cheers

You can find the wiring diagrams for the blackTooth on step 105 and 106 on the list of instructions on the blackTooth page. Step 105 pertains to the parallel breakout board and step 106 pertains to the USB interface board.
