PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) What is Duty Cycle?

The duty cycle refers to the length (or width) of the pulse and this in relation to the idle state between the period. For instance, if the pulse is half of the width of the period, then the duty cycle is 50%. If the period is 1/4 of the period, then the duty cycle is 25%.
