Best Resin 3D Printers for CNC and Prototyping Shops

If you run a CNC machine, a resin printer earns its bench space faster than most people expect. Not for parts that take real load, but for the jigs, fixtures, prototypes and small components that would otherwise cost you a full setup on the router.
We stocked and sold these machines alongside our CNC equipment for years, and used them in our own shop. What follows comes from that rather than from reading spec sheets.
The short answer
Buying one machine for a CNC shop: the ANYCUBIC Photon Mono M7 PRO. A 10.1 inch 14K screen, a 9 inch tall plate, and a heated vat cover almost everything a shop needs.
Testing the waters on a budget: the ELEGOO Saturn 4 12K. Nearly the same working envelope for meaningfully less money.
Printing large fixtures or panels: the Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K S. A 15 inch screen and a plate nothing else here comes close to.
What a resin printer actually does for a CNC shop
The honest use cases, in the order we found them useful:
- Fixtures and soft jaws. Workholding that only needs to survive a dozen parts does not need to be machined.
- Prototypes before you cut metal. Checking fit and clearance on a printed part costs a few dollars of resin instead of a bar of aluminum.
- Enclosures and panel work. Control panel bezels, switch plates, sensor brackets, cable guides, custom knobs.
- Drilling and assembly jigs. One-off guides for repeat operations, made the same afternoon you need them.
- Replacement odds and ends. Dust shoe brackets, hose adapters, mounts for whatever you just bolted to the gantry.
What it will not do: replace machined parts under real load, survive high heat, or handle anything structural on the machine itself. Resin is stiff and it is brittle. Know that going in.
What actually matters when you choose one
Build volume comes first. Almost everyone buys too small. A bracket fits on anything, but the first time you want a full panel or a fixture for a wide part, a small plate becomes the whole problem.
LCD resolution matters less than the marketing suggests. The jump from 8K to 12K to 14K is real but small at the scale of shop parts. A 12K screen on a bigger plate beats a 14K screen on a small one for functional work.
A heated vat matters more than resolution if your shop is a garage. Cold resin is the single most common cause of failed prints in winter, and no amount of exposure tuning fixes it.
Budget for wash and cure from day one. The printer is maybe half the job. Skip this and you will hate the process and stop using the machine.

ANYCUBIC Photon Mono M7 PRO
This is the one we point most shops toward, and it is the machine we know best.
The screen is a 10.1 inch monochrome LCD running 13312 x 5120, which works out to roughly 16.8 x 24.8 micron pixels in XY. In practical terms it will resolve a hole down to about 0.3 mm. Print speed reaches 130 mm per hour on standard resin and up to 170 mm per hour on ANYCUBIC's high speed resin. Build volume is 8.77 x 4.96 x 9.05 inches.
Three features make it worth the premium over the Saturn 4 for shop use:
- A temperature controlled vat. The vat heats itself and holds resin at a workable temperature. If your printer lives in a garage that swings 40 degrees between January and July, this single feature will save you more failed prints than any resolution upgrade.
- Auto fill and one key resin recycling. The pump fills the vat from the bottle and pumps the leftovers back. It sounds like a gimmick until you have poured resin by hand for a year.
- COB LighTurbo 3.0 with Fresnel lenses and front facing reflectors. Light uniformity across a 10 inch screen is what keeps a part printed at the edge of the plate dimensionally the same as one printed in the center. That matters for functional parts.
It also carries six kinds of automatic detection to catch failures early, a hinged door, a touch interface, and a dual linear rail Z tower. It is not a ball screw drive, but the tower is stiff enough that tall prints hold their geometry.
The honest concerns. Z offset adjustment is not clearly exposed in the interface, which is frustrating if you are used to dialing it in yourself and matters for protecting the film. The machine uses ACF anti clouding film rather than traditional FEP, and long term durability at 14K resolution is still an open question. The vat is on the shallow side, so you will refill more often on tall jobs. And the fan runs continuously whenever the printer is powered, which is worth knowing if it shares a room with you.
None of that changes the recommendation. It is the best balance of plate size, resolution and shop practicality on this list.
ELEGOO Saturn 4 12K
Nearly the same working envelope as the M7 PRO at 8.6 x 4.8 x 8.6 inches, with a 12K screen instead of 14K, for meaningfully less money.
For fixtures, brackets and functional parts you will not see the difference between 12K and 14K. What you give up is the heated vat and the resin handling automation. If your shop is climate controlled, that trade is easy to make.
This is the machine to buy if you are not yet sure how much you will use a resin printer and you want to find out without committing serious money. Plenty of shops never need to upgrade from it.
Phrozen Sonic Mighty Revo
Slightly larger plate than the M7 PRO at 8.8 x 5.0 x 9.3 inches, same 14K class resolution on a 10.1 inch screen. Phrozen has a long reputation for screen quality and this machine earns it.
Worth the look if your work leans toward fine detail, small mechanical parts, or anything where surface finish is visible on the finished product. It sits above the M7 PRO in price without adding the vat heating or resin automation, so choose it for print quality rather than for convenience.
Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K S
A different category entirely. A 15 inch screen and a build volume around 12.9 x 7.3 x 11.8 inches means full control panel bezels, long fixtures, and parts that nothing else on this list will fit.
The tradeoff is 8K resolution spread across a much larger screen, so individual pixels are bigger than on the 10 inch machines. For large functional parts that is completely fine. For jewelry grade detail it is the wrong tool. It is also the most expensive machine here by a wide margin, so buy it because you have specifically measured a part that will not fit on a 10 inch plate.
The accessories that are not optional
A wash and cure station. Washing by hand in a tub of IPA works exactly until you have printed five things. Get the station up front and build the habit.

Spare nFEP release film. Film is a consumable. When it clouds or stretches, prints start failing in ways that look exactly like a settings problem and are not. Keep a spare on the shelf before you need it.

Getting good prints out of it
Resin printing has a reputation for being fussy. Most of that reputation comes from three mistakes, and none of them are about the printer you bought.
Start from the resin manufacturer's published exposure numbers, not from someone else's profile. Every resin is formulated differently and the numbers that work for one brand will fail on another. The manufacturer publishes a starting point for a reason.
Run an exposure test with every new resin. A validation matrix print takes under an hour and tells you more than a week of guessing. Do it once per resin type and write the result down.
Watch your shop temperature. Most resins want to be somewhere around 25 to 30 degrees C. Below that, layers do not bond properly and prints fail in ways that look like an exposure problem. This is the mistake that catches people every winter, and it is why the heated vat on the M7 PRO matters.
One workflow note that saves real money: keep a glass dish of clean IPA as a pre wash before the part goes into the wash station. It keeps the station's IPA usable far longer, and IPA is the recurring cost that quietly adds up.

Common questions
Can you print functional parts for a CNC machine in resin?
Fixtures, jigs, guides, spacers, brackets and enclosure parts all work well. Anything carrying significant load, seeing heat, or wearing against another surface should be machined or bought. Resin is strong in compression and brittle in impact.
Is 14K worth it over 12K?
For shop parts, rarely. Put the money toward build volume or a heated vat instead.
What build volume do I need?
More than you think. Around 8 to 9 inches on the long axis handles most shop work. If you know you want panels or long fixtures, step up to a 15 inch class machine.
Do I need a heated vat?
If the printer lives in a garage, unheated shop or anywhere below roughly 68 degrees F, yes. Either buy a machine with one built in or add a standalone heater.
