  • Do you all provide files to cut the MDF parts in the combo #1 on a CNC instead of having to hand cut them?

The kit was designed to be hand cut, however if you want to get a CNC machine to cut it, you will have to add the dimension(etc.) Into the code of the CNC machine software to process and cut the MDF. Since we do not provide the files/code.

  • Where do I wire the ground of my "th" and "power 0v - 5v" command on the power supply ? Is it possible to have a detailed blueprint of the electrical wiring (not for the blacktooth but in general) ? Many thanks :)

I just posted the "enhanced" Blacktooth wiring diagram I developed. Check it out here. http://www.buildyourtools.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4872

  • What is processing and ship time for a bluechick? Tried to call but no answer and no space to leave a message.

We try to have the product out for shipping within 48 hours. The shipping time can vary depending on the shipping option you choose, and the delays the shipper may have. Unfortunately we have no control over the product once the shipper has it.

  • I've read your book and I'm looking to purchase the hardware kit with DVD as well as an electronics kit. I would like my machine to have a working area of at least 24" wide by 48" long. Can I just make the bed (and gantry) wider to accommodate larger priceslike 30"x60"? If so what electronics kit would you recommend?

Considering enlarging the machine, might have its down sides do to the structural integrity of the scratch build machine. Primarily by making the width longer it will start to sag in the center, which will lead to having to redesign the gantry to be more structurally rigid to support the added length. Which then will increase the weight and height of your gantry to support the add size, which will always end up to creating a larger CNC. We usually do not recommend modifying the scratch build CNC, due to the very limited capabilities, and the structural design of the scratch build. We also do not recommend using longer than 48" ACME screw/leadscrew due to the increasing chance of warping and bending in the ACME screws/leadscrew in the given length. We do recommend modifying the CNC machines we sell to accommodate the added requests that some of our customers desire, but you will be limited to the width of the gantry with our machines.

  • Is the blacktoe a 4'x8' machine

The blackToe CNC router is a 2'x4' (24"x48" medium format) machine. The blackFoot CNC Router is a 4'x8' (48" x 96" large format) machine.

  • I recently purchased 3 axis electronics with the USB controller board. I'm trying to install an E-stop switch. Where do I connect that on the controller board?

There are many ways to wire an emergency stop switch. The simplest, and arguably the most certain, way is to wire the switch into the incoming power so that throwing the switch kills all power to every part of the machine. Here is a diagram showing how a customer wired such a switch on their blackTooth laser which you could adapt to your needs. http://www.buildyourtools.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4872 Alternatively, you could use an input pin on your USB board. The wiring would depend on whether and how you might be using limit switches (single or multiple switches; normally open or normally closed). Our website datasheet for the USB board is at https://buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-electronic-component-USB-Controller-Breakout#prettyPhoto/2/ and shows how to configure the switches for each set up. If you use this method, you'd essentially wire the e-stop as a limit switch.

  • I need a machine to cut guitar bodies. The bodies are 12" x 16" and 1.5" thick. What would work best?

I would recommend using the blackToe CNC machine kit. The overall travel dimensions are 24" x 48" x 6". This will provide a bit of space on the sides as wiggle room if your guitar bodies are at the extremes of the 12". Also, if you are manufacturing may of these, the larger routing area, the more guitar bodies you will be able to cut at one time.

  • How to wire a e stop

If you are referring to the physical E-Stop switch (as opposed to one in software, such as in Mach3) then all you really need to do is connect it to the power leg of your machine, between the power inlet and the major components. Look at this wiring diagram. http://www.buildyourtools.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4872 Or, you can use one of the input pins of the breakout board, or one of the limits on the USB interface. Check the datasheet/wiring diagram for the breakout board: https://buildyourcnc.com/category/breakout

  • How much Z-axis travel does the 48x96 greenlean machine have?

    The greenLean Z-axis travel is about 4" - 5"-3/4".

  • how do you ship your products?

The way we ship our products depends on the product. If the product is a kit or a machine, we typically use freight packed in a large crate. If the product is within the dimensions that are allowable by USPS, FedEx, or UPS, we will ship with one of those carriers in standard packaging. We ship within 48 hours of the order date and time. If we are out of stock on the product, we will inform the customer and either drop ship from our supplier, ask if extended time is permitted, or refund for the out of stock product.

  • Good evening, if I wanted to use your inductive proximity sensor's with your USB interface board what would I need besides the sensors I would be using 5 of the sensors. I have a 48V 12amp power supply. Thank you

I would suggest using the NPN proximity sensor for the Mach3 USB or the Pokeys57cnc. The proximity sensors have a top DC voltage limit of 30 volts, so it would be best to use the 24V power supply that is used to power the controller. Both controllers have a 24V power requirement, so that is convenient. The blue wire of the proximity sensor is the GND wire and is connected to the 24V power supply's V- terminal. The brown wire is the positive wire and is connected to the V+ terminal of the 24V power supply. The black wire is the signal wire and is connected to the input terminal of the controller.

  • I bought your 3 axis combo and need to know what name brand is the motors and their ounces and the drivers

Surely you know the brand motors you sold me?

  • I am interested in purchasing your 4 axis combo package. Is it compatible with MeshCam

Our electronics and machines are compatible with all non-proprietary CAM programs. MeshCAM is a standard CAM package so it will work with our equipment. The electronics are more related to the control program (such as Mach3, LinuxCNC, etc) that you select for the machine rather than the CAM program.

  • Does your 3/4 comb support 2 driver board on a single axis contro board output interface?

Yes, you can have two drivers connected to a single axis. If you want the two drivers/motors to work as a single, more concerted pair, then I would suggest connecting the two drivers to a single step pulse and direction signal. That is to say: driver 1 and driver 2 have wires connecting from the CP terminals of the drivers to a single step terminal on the interface board (USB or parallel breakout board), and the CW terminals of the drivers connected to a single direction terminal on the interface board. If the motors need to spin in the opposite directions, simply reverse one of the the motor A B coil connections (i.e. wires that would go to A+ and A- is connected to the B+ and B-, and the same with the B+ and B- to the A+ and A-). You can alternatively resolve this mechanically if desired.

  • Does your 3 axis comboi have the same controller board (i.e. parallel option) as the 4 axis combo?

Yes, you can select the price option for the electronics combos that include the interface board you desire. Go to the electronics category page: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/electronicscombo.aspx Select the motors and drivers combination you desire and select the price option that contains the interface card you desire.

  • This kit came with DM542 driver what are the dip switch settings for this with the usb interface

The dip switches for the DM542 are as follows: Switches 1, 2, and 3 relate to the amp setting for the motor connected to the driver. Take a look at the datasheet for the motor that you have. If you are connecting the 425 oz-in NEMA 24 motor, the Amp setting should be around 2.8, so the dip switch setting is 1-on, 2-on, and 3-off. If you are using a NEMA34 motor from buildyourcnc.com, set the amp rating to the highest at 1-off, 2-off, and 3-off. Switch 4 is the setting for half or full current when the motor is at idle. You can set this to either full or half, unless you are using a rack and pinion and the axis is experiencing a load, like gravity. In that case, make sure switch 4 is on for full current. Switches 5 to 8 relate to the number of micro steps for each step. A stepper motor with a 1.8-degree step will have 200 steps per rotation. If you wish to increase the number of steps per rotation, you can set these switches so that you can have more granularity. This will depend on the mechanical configuration of the axis you are setting. For instance, if you are using a lead screw that has a lead of 1/2" travel per turn, you will want to set the axis to at least 1/4, or 800 steps per rotation. If your mechanical configuration is rack and pinion, or roller chain, you may want a higher micro stepping to achieve greater than 1000/inch resolution on that axis. For instance, if the axis has a drive sprocket with a roller chain that has 14 teeth and the tooth pitch is 1/4", use a 1/16 microstepping setting or 3200 steps per rotation.
