The LMT Onsrud 52-080 is a 1/4" solid carbide, two-flute upcut spiral router bit built for CNC routers cutting materials that chew up ordinary tooling: fiberglass, solid surface, phenolic, acetal (Delrin), and aluminum slab. The 30° upcut spiral pulls chips up and out of the slot so the bit runs cooler and leaves a clean bottom edge on through-cuts and pockets. Solid carbide holds its edge several times longer than high-speed steel in abrasive composites, which means fewer tool changes and more consistent part dimensions over a production run.

What the 52-080 is designed to cut

  • Fiberglass and FRP panels
  • Solid surface (Corian and similar acrylic/polyester sheet)
  • Phenolic, Garolite, and other laminated composites
  • Acetal (Delrin), nylon, and other hard plastics
  • Aluminum slab and plate at light engagement

Why choose an upcut spiral for these materials

Composites and solid surface produce fine, abrasive dust that packs into a straight-flute bit and generates heat. An upcut spiral lifts that swarf out of the cut continuously, which keeps the edge cooler, reduces melting on plastics, and gives you a cleaner bottom surface. The trade-off is slight fuzzing on the top edge of fibrous material; if the top face is the show face, pair this bit with a downcut finishing pass or use a compression bit.

Fitment

The 1/4" shank fits any router or spindle with a 1/4" collet, including ER11, ER16, ER20, and ER32 collet systems, as well as 1/4" trim-router collets.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 52-080 a good general-purpose wood bit?
It will cut wood, but LMT Onsrud's 52-200 series (for example the 52-280) is ground specifically for wood and gives a better finish there. Choose the 52-080 when the job is fiberglass, solid surface, phenolic, acetal, or aluminum.

Can I use this bit in aluminum?
Yes, on aluminum slab and plate with conservative depth of cut. For high-volume aluminum sheet work, a single-flute O-flute such as the LMT Onsrud 63-600 series clears chips more aggressively.

How long is the cutting edge?
3/4", so it will cut material up to 3/4" thick in a single through-pass and can be stepped down for deeper pockets.
