Question: Do you sell a USB driven breakout board for Mach4?

Our USB CNC machine controller board works with Mach3. We haven't tried, or tested the USB board on Mach4.

  • What power supply do you recommend for the spindle and limit switches if I buy the USB Mach3 breakout board?

    Any of the following power supplies will be fine for powering the Mach3 USB controller:

  • For your USB breakout board, do you guys have, or have a source for a connector that fits over the "keyboard jog" pins?

    At the current moment, we do not have a connector/attachment for the keyboard jog pins on our USB Breakout board. We are currently under development of a keyboard jog panel, that will connect to the keyboard jog pins.

    It is not necessary for a wiring diagram for the breakout board to the SuperPID controller since you are only going to connect two wires from the breakout board output terminals of your choosing to the SuperPID controller. The only thing remaining is to configure Mach3 so that the spindle control section serves as the SuperPID controller.

    To setup this configuration in Mach3, go to your ports and pins dialog box (config menu -> ports and pins). Click on the spindle setup tab. In the Motor Control Section of the dialog, check the box for Use Spindle Motor Output and check the box for PWM control. Change the PWM Base Frequency to 50Hz.

    Mach3 is not compatible with the USB breakout board, so you need Planet CNC in its place.

    I am confused by this same issue. I am using the Mach3 USB interface board with Mach3 and it works fine. In fact a video of it is on this very website. (link below)

    Is the Mach3 USB interface board the same thing as Planet-CNC USB board?
    It has been stated on this FAQ that it cannot be used with Mach3 and can only be used with Planet CNC USB software.

    The USB is only used for powering the parallel breakout board.

  • Is there a wiring diagram for hooking up your hex inverter between your USB breakout board and the controller?

    The use of the hex inverter in the application to invert a direction signal to have a motor run in the reverse directions is relatively simple.

    First, go to this link and look at the chip diagram:

    Connect 5V from the USB interface tothe VCC pin. The pin on the keyboard jog header can be used. Connect the GND pin from the USB interface to the GND pin on the hex inverter. Connect the CW terminal from the USB interface to the 1A pin on the hex inverter. Connect the 1Y pin from the hex inverter to the driver.

I can not get anything out of them pertaining help they keep telling me the same thing over and over and over and I'm doing it and send them pictures that I know.     Yes, the parallel breakout board can be used with the parallel plug-in that is offered by the mach CNC software developers.

  • How do you suggest threading using your breakout board?

    We need clarification on what you mean by threading: a parallel computer process, creating threads on a screw on a turning center, or threading a hole using a tap controlled by a CNC machine. If it's the latter two, you would rely on the stepping motors and dead reckoning (open loop system). Stepping motors will move exactly as instructed and have exact stop and positional accuracy so the threads would be constructed as intended; therefore, no need for encoders and feedback (closed loop system)

  • why does the parallel port breakout board have usb port?

    The parallel breakout board contains a USB port to power the board. Through the USB port, the computer delivers 5v of stable power to the parallel breakout board, but doe not provide any communication as would normally be associated with USB connectivity.

    The reason we elected to use the USB port to provide power is to remove the need for an external 5v wall adapter.

  • How do you connect the spindle VFD to the parallel breakout board

    The parallel board contains a relay that is connected to pin #16. You can use this relay as the start/stop by connecting the relay to the FOR and it's related digital GND pin on the VFD.
