The parallel breakout board uses the 25 pin parallel connection to communicate from the computer to drivers, and the USB is used to power the main-board itself, supplying 5V.

I am wiring my breakout board and it has a USB port on it. Is the USB port there to supply the 5 volt power to it?

Any of the following power supplies will be fine for powering the Mach3 USB controller:

I am using my breakout board as port 2 from my ess smooth stepper only for limits so it's powered via 12v , now I want to use pin 17 to trigger my plasma will I still need to supply 5v power to is a well? As I'm not using the usb it's connected to smooth stepper via 25pin ribbin

The 5V power required for the breakout board can be a simple USB male to male cable, that will connect from your computer to the board itself.
Now adding a external power supply make sure that it does not exceed a total of 5V and the standard 500 MilliAMP - 1 A.

Sure, connect O2 (output #2) on your mach3 USB board to the GND side of your relay coil. Connect the 24V power supply to the positive side of your 24v relay.

You will want to connect a flyback diode (1N4007) between the coil connections to make sure the coil back current does not damage the Mach3 USB board.

I recently purchesed a USB Mach3 breakout board and need help setting mach3 to use a relay to start the router can you show how to set the pins and which port to use on the board to attached the relay?

I would recommend using a separate 24VDC power supply for the controller. The 24VDC that is connected to the controller is used for delicate input signals and output signals that control external devices. To keep interference and possible current and voltage fluctuations at a minimum due to the motor load, a separate power supply would be best.

I would suggest using the NPN proximity sensor for the Mach3 USB or the Pokeys57cnc. The proximity sensors have a top DC voltage limit of 30 volts, so it would be best to use the 24V power supply that is used to power the controller. Both controllers have a 24V power requirement, so that is convenient.

The blue wire of the proximity sensor is the GND wire and is connected to the 24V power supply's V- terminal. The brown wire is the positive wire and is connected to the V+ terminal of the 24V power supply. The black wire is the signal wire and is connected to the input terminal of the controller.

A parallel breakout board requires a computer with a parallel port. The parallel port provides the communication. The reason the board has a USB port is only to provide power to the board from the computer. If the USB connection is not plugged in to the board, the board will not have the power needed to function correctly.

This controller does not have an encoder input to determine the speed of a lathe spindle. The Pokeys57CNC does have an available encoder input.

If you are using a spindle with a VFD, there is a 24 volt power supply that will provide the correct power for the V+ and V- on the Mach3 USB. The 12V option is only if you are using the limit switches on that side of the board, but if you are using it to control spindle speed and for the outputs, it's best to use a 24V power supply, or the 24V output on the VFD.

The Mach 3 usb board requires an additional 12V power supply. How many amps would you recommend? Would a 1A wall adapter suffice.

Our breakout board, does require 5v to operate the correct voltages coming in from the drivers and also coming in from your computer, now the 5V will be supplied by the USB connection, so no external power supply is needed, for either our USB/Parallel breakout board.

Just for general knowledge. If a spindle gets i.e. 240VAC, and the drivers 36-50VDC for power, why do you need 5VDC for the Breakout Board (BlueBrew)? Is it only for the relay? I think I've seen other BoB's working without power supply, or am I wrong?

I connected the electronics (for 2 x 4 feet) that I ordered from you. But how do I check if I connected all the wiring properly. There is neither any light on motor drivers nor on breakout board. And the motor shaft also does not move before and after the power supply is given.

Hi, this BBB comes with a USB port and its cable to power it up. Once connected to the computer a led in the BBB will light up to show it has power.
