Question: What is the peak power of the 80 watt laser tube?

Current Solution

Power is measured in watts. The 80 watt laser tube can output more than 80 watts of power; however, it is not advisable to run the laser tube above its rated power.

  • As identify that the power suplplie laser tube is damage

If you have a damaged power supply, send the unit back to us and we will replace (if it was purchased from us). It is always a good idea to have a couple power supplies to troubleshoot issues in the future. Or you can get special test equipment for measuring laser power, a meter that receives the lasing energy from the exit of the tube (measured in watts) and a special probe that measures the voltage through the high tension line.

  • What warranty is there on the 40W laser and power supply?

Most of our products have a warranty that extends for 1 year; however, there are parts like end mills and laser tubes which are considered consumables. These parts, when used, become worn, or the usable life is decreased. Laser tubes are parts that, when used, shorten its life, and especially when proper methods are not used (i.e. running the tube with water), can drastically reduce the life of the tube. Therefore, the warranty for laser tubes are 30 days if the laser tube was not used.

    Vertical Laser XL 4'x8'

Our blackTooth 24"x20" laser uses a 40 watt laser tube due to the internal size constraints and that the laser tube is mounted on the gantry for ease of aligning and maintaining better power at the cutting end.

  • The laser adapter for the greenBull can host laser tubes more powerful than 80W?

The laser mount for the greenBull is designed and suited for a 40W tube only. The 80W tube is too large to mount on the gantry.

  • What is the acceleration limited to with the laser tube vertical?

With our new Laser/Spindle Combo Head for our greenBull, we kept the acceleration the same and had no issues at all with the tube (regarding chipping breaking etc.). So there is no specific limit to the machine (take into affect the weight of your gantry and the overall output of your motors), but here is the setup we have now:

  • What is the max thickness of material that the 80W laser can cut in plywood?

An 80 watt laser can cut plywood up to 1/2 inch thick. Make sure to use a high pressure source of air to knock out all of the charring during the cutting process so the laser can work efficiently.

    Additional Information:
I have a Chinese 80W laser. Just finished a cut test with 1/2" plywood. It cut through at 95% power 7-4mm/s with significant charring after two passes with no refocusing done between passes.

    Additional Information:
That's great information. What is your PSI of the air assist on your laser? What focal lens distance do you have? And where did you place the focus of the lens (at the surface, or within the material)?

  • the computer is not able to wrk properly with the upgraded laser tube and power board and has an outdated software instilation.

Is this a CO2 laser tube? CO2 laser tubes are not typically associated with the laser controller. The laser tube is powered by a laser tube power supply which is controlled by a simple digital on/off or PWM signal.

If you got a higher powered laser tube, then the power supply for the laser tube needs to be correctly wired to the laser controller.

  • What solder will stick on the tungsten terminal of the laser tube in a Blacktooth kit?

We use a standard leaded solder with flux. To help the soldering, you can add flux to the wire end and the tungsten rod. We have not tried non-leaded solder in fear that we would crack the glass with a rapid temperature rise. The leaded solder will melt at a lower temperature.

  • What is the dot resolution (size) of the BlackTooth laser?

The dot resolution of the blackTooth is a combination of two specifications of the machine:

    - The steps/inch (or steps/mm) which is the resolution but not the dot size
    - The size of the actual dot, which is not specifically related to the resolution.

The steps per or resolution can actually be a range, since the driver microstepping can be modified.

A simple formula can be used to determine the resolution:

step per inch = (motor steps * microstepping) / (travel at one turn of the motor in inches)

if microstepping is set at 16 (1/16 on the driver) and you are using a pulley that has a pitch of .08 inches and 20 teeth on the drive sprocket

    = (200 steps * 16 microsteps) / (20 teeth * .08 inches)
    = 3200 steps / 1.6 inches
    = 2000 steps per inch

To increase the resolution, just increase the microsteps on the driver.

The actual dot size will depend on the lens you are using, the material being lased, the time period that the laser energy is applied to the material, and the focal height of the lens to the work surface material. The energy from the laser will converge to a point and create a dot on the surface (which is different than the kerf of the laser cut into the material).

The dot will appear in different sizes depending on the material because, say wood, will burn causing a dot that burns the fibers of the wood and spreads a bit. The dot lased on the surface of a plastic, say Plexiglas, the dot will be smaller because the energy is absorbed only at that point, but since Plexiglas is a thermoplastic, a bit of the energy will melt the dot edges depending on the time frame (period) that the energy is applied to the surface.

The focus of the laser energy from the lens looks like a cone converging to a point, then diverges outward after that point. Depending on the distance from the lens to the surface of the material, the dot will be bigger or smaller. You want to find focal point (where the energy is focused into a point). You can use the technique where you lay a material on a slope and lase that material along the slope to find the sweet spot (dot) and that will be your smallest dot, or kerf location. Remember that the kerf will widen or narrow within the material thickness depending on the focal length lens specification (the cone will be shorter or longer depending on the lens focal length).

  • What is the footprint size of the Blacktooth laser machine?

The footprint of the blackTooth laser machine is:
    Length: 37"/ 939.8mm
    Width: 33"-3/4"/ 857.25mm
    Height: 11"-1/8"/ 282.575mm

The height will change with the doors that open to retrieve your material/project the highest point will be 28"-1/4"/ 717.55mm

what is the maximum cutting depth of the blacktooth laser on plywood

  • Hi I want to build a cnc laser table 13'x15' cuttting area. Is this feasible. Also would the 80watt laser be enough power to cut through carpet

Yes, it is feasible to create a machine with a cutting area of 13'x15'. Your mechanical and structural systems will need to be able to span a bit more than the 13' if that will be the axis travel along the gantry.

We have not cut carpet with our lasers, but I don't see why not. With that said, be extremely careful with the materials in the rug. Read the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the rug you intend to cut as some materials will emit corrosive and harmful gases and chemicals when lased.
