Question #: 3401

Question: Do you have a CNC machine plan available for a 4'x8' machine?

Current Solution

All of our machines that are offered as a kit do not have a plans option. We do have a machine that is build form plans. The plans refer to the scratch build machine: http://www.buildyourcnc.com/cnckitintro.aspx and the one in the book "Build Your Own CNC Machine": http://www.buildyourcnc.com/Book.aspx

  • DO NEED TO SQUARE UP THE MACHINE AND IF SO YOU HAVE INSTRUCTIONS OR VIDEO FOR THIS?

The eyebolts are used in the squaring of the machine. I would use a standard carpenters square and first run the end mill along the edge of the square to first make it parallel with the long axis. Then run the end mill along the other edge with the short axis and adjust the eye bolts and chain according to the angle that the machine is out of square.

  • On the blackFoot 4'x8' CNC machine do you have the instructions under one file that I can download, I want to print them out and make notes as I am building the machine.

WE don't have an actual file that contains the instructions for the machines as they are a part of a larger database file that is queried during the product page's rendering in the browser. The best option would be to print the webpage on a printer and use that as notes.

I know this will not provide larger images, but you could use the paper version to write your notes while assembling the machine using the larger images on the website.

  • Do you offer plans for the blackToe CNC Machine?

The blackToe machine is offered as a kit only. We do have a machine that is build form plans. The plans refer to the scratch build machine: http://www.buildyourcnc.com/cnckitintro.aspx and the one in the book "Build Your Own CNC Machine": http://www.buildyourcnc.com/Book.aspx

  • I HAVE A SIGN SHOP AND WE NEED CUT ALUMINUM, PLEXIGASS, FOAM AND OTHER MATERIALS FOR SIGNS. CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT MACHINE WE NEED? I LOOKING 4'X8' OR 5' X 10'

The overall size of the machine, really depends on both the area available to you and also the overall size of material being used. Now our larger machines (blackFoot, greenBull, greenLean) can cut all the materials mentioned above, and if equipped with our 2.2kW spindle you will be accurate up to ten thousandths of an inch.
Our greenBull machine does have an option for a long-z axis, that was especially designed to cut foam, but depending on the overall size it might not be a requirement for the specified request.

  • Do you have data sheets available for the Adjustable Rotary Limit Switch and E-Stop (Emergency Stop) Button - 120v-10A/240v-6A?

If the products have documents available, they are generally found on the product page itself, somewhere in the description or under the instructions.

  • I have the BYO CNC book. Any dxf or cad files available?

For our BYCNC book, we have a pdf file with all the parts you will need to fabricate here: (https://buildyourcnc.com/Documents/CNC%20Kit%201-1.pdf), however some modifications and updates have been made, which you can purchase the new files and DVD here: (https://buildyourcnc.com/cnckitintro.aspx). We do not have any .dxf files available for any machines we currently sell.

  • I was told you have some free CNC machine plans. I can't find them. Where are they?

We do not offer any free plans. We offer the CNC Scratch Build Kit which includes plans to build a CNC machine from scratch. You can find more information about this by clicking on this link https://buildyourcnc.com/cnckitintro.aspx

    Additional Information:
WTF!! It says right on your utube page free plans available. I'll paste it from Utube right here.(DIY CNC Router for Under $900 - Free Plans Available) Very misleading, I spent a lot of time looking for this stuff and am lucky I found this because apparently none of its available for free. Very misleading, dishonest sales tactics. I'm sure you've made money conning honest people out of there money but your not gonna get shit from me. After reading what other people here have written, and the fact that you lie about the cost, at least on UTUBE, It is clear your a liar and a piece of shit. carry on though by all means and continue making money being a liar.

  • Are plans available for the blackfoot cnc router table

The available options for the blackFoot, is only structural components with hardware, and structure components/hardware with electronic components.
However we currently do not have any plans available for public use/distribution.

  • Can the vertical CNC router do about what a horizontal router can, like cutting out 3/4" cabinet doors from a 4'X8' formica clad sheet? If so, how do you hold it - with Vacuum? Is a vacuum system available?

Our hold down method is screws. For a 4'x8' 3/4" sheet, we use 6 screws around the perimeter of the sheet. This provides sufficient hold down for milling. For the vertically oriented machine, the sheet also rests on a small ledge, making it easy for the board to maintain position while fastening.

  • What precision do the CNC machine have, for instance the 12’’ x 36’’ x 3’’?

Our machine that matches those dimensions, the blueChick, uses roller chain for both X and Y axes, and a 1/2" 5 start 10 TPI lead screw for the Z axis. The precision is generally related to repeatability and we have not does extensive measurement of these tolerances. The resolution is set at better than 1000 steps per inch.

Here is the link for the blueChick:

  • I want to build my first CNC machine for PCB manufacture. I wish to manufacture at most A4 sizes. Which CNC kit do you recommend?

The blueChick would be the perfect machine to iso route PCB boards. The A4 size is 8.3x11.7 inches and the blueChick is 12x36 inches. It's a bit larger, but you would be able to route many more PCBs. I would also recommend getting the 1.5 kW or 2.2 kW spindle for the blueChick since you will want very low runout to make the isolation routes (kerf) between traces very thin.

  • IF MY COMPUTER DOESN'T HAVE A PARALLEL PORT, HOW DO I RUN THE MACHINE?

If your computer does not have a parallel port, all you will need is a low cost PCI parallel adapter card (these can be found on amazon for $15-$20). If you plan on using a laptop (not recommended) you can try to find a PCMCIA parallel adapter, but many people have frequent issues with this setup. A more expensive solution would be to purchase a USB smooth stepper board. Unfortunately, we do not supply any of these adapters and cannot attest to their reliability.

  • Can a CO2 CNC laser machine be used for welding of thermoplastic materials?

That is a good question. We have not tried to weld thermoplastics using our CO2 Lasers. It is possible since the laser outputs a heat source and at the right intensity and speed, the thermoplastic can be heated and melted rather than instantaneously vaporized and off gassed. I have done research to see if CO2 laser can weld thermoplastics with positive results.

Our CO2 lasers are typical of other laser cutters on the market, so if their literature, or examples you have found, successfully weld thermoplastics, then ours will probably be able to as well.

In some cutting test with different speeds and intensities, the kerf has welded back together; however, this was caused by an unintentional process rather than an intentional one.
