Question: is the spindle laser hybrid head available for the green lean?

At this current time we only have the laser hybrid available for the greenBull. Due to the weight that is on the z-axis for the greenLean and the spring load, we have not tried retrofitting it just yet!

    The laser/spindle combo head includes the following major items:

    Spindle components:
    - The Spindle and VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) also called an inverter.

    Laser components:
    - 40 watt laser tube.
    - Laser nozzle with laser focus lens (20 mm).
    - nozzle tube fitting with 36 inches of silicone tubing.
    - 40 watt laser power supply.
    - Potentiometer (panel mount) to adjust laser intensity.
    - Toggle switch (on/off SPST - Single Pole Single Throw).
    - Air pump to provide air assist to keep debris out of the nozzle.

    Structure and hardware:
    - All structural parts to form the z-axis rail support and mounts for the spindle and laser tube/nozzle, vacuum hose and dust shoe
    - 1/2" - 10 TPI 5 starts lead screw (2 turns per inch).
    - Many screws/nuts/cross dowels.
    - Dust shoe with installed strip brush.
    - Aluminum angle to serve as rail.

    At this current time we only have the laser hybrid available for the greenBull. Due to the weight that is on the z-axis for the greenLean and the spring load, we have not tried retrofitting it just yet.

    However, with enough skill and patience anything is possible. Please let us know if you try this and any lessons learned along the way.

  • Question about greenlean, is there a vacuum hookup available?

    Our greenLean machine has a vacuum hose mount that comes with the machines specified with standard diameter hoses from wet/dry vacuums available at local hardware stores.

    However if specifically speaking of a vacuum table, we do not have that implemented to our design.

  • Derek, got your email, can the greenlean large format perhaps handle the laser head?

    The greenLean can potentially be adapted to hold laser equipment, but the laser tube would need to be in-line with the gantry and use mirrors for the laser energy to find its way to the nozzle.

    It would be challenging to make room for the power supply on the gantry, but not impossible.

    due to the weight of the z-axis, raster engraving would be pretty slow. If the machine was for cutting and vector graphics, the z-axis weight and inertia would not be an issue.

    To experience the full features of laser engraving and cutting, it's best to stick to a sole laser machine like the vertical laser XL or the blackTooth. If you want both CNC cutting and laser to possibly mark the cuts made from the CNC machine, then the hybrid is a good solution.

    We will generally consider a change in dimensions or machine features if the change will be beneficial to other users as well. This is due, in part, to the time it takes to make such changes and that it maintains the desired functionality and expected safety.

    We have that size in our queue to be designed. However, you may be more interested in the laser adapter we are designing for the existing CNC machines to house a laser tube on the z-axis of these machines. This will be a quicker turnaround.

    Is there a time frame possibly to having this adapter made as well as cost? I am possibly looking to start a business so I am looking for something I can use to mass produce some specific parts.

    the 2.2kW spindle uses the ER20 collet by default. The ER20 collets can accept shanks as small as about 1mm all the way up to 9/16 inches or 13mm.

  • I'm planning on purchasing a Greenbull 5x (hybrid laser/spindel). What other expenses will I have for having a fully operationel machine

    You will need to make sure you have a 220 volt outlet near the machine. You will need some wire to connect the electronics unless you purchase the redFly, redLear or redSprout plug and play electronics. To maintain cooling for the spindle, you will need some silicone tubing to provide for water exchange within the spindle, a bucket and pump to pump the water. You will need a table built as per the dimensions on the greenBull page:

    For cutting material, you will need end mills which are consumables that will be purchased frequently as they wear.

  • What is the Greenbull average power consumption in conjunction with 2.2KW spindle?

    You can determine you overall CNC machine current consumption be adding your spindle power plus your CNC motion power and the power that your computer requires.

    the formula to understand the current of each component is watts = volts x current, or W = V * I, or with some algebra, Current (I) = Watts (W) / Volts (V)

    For example:

    Spindle:
    The 2.2 kW = 2200 watts and you can find the current by taking the input voltage of 220 volt and get the current using the above formula: 2200 W / 220 V = 10 A (Amps)

    CNC motion electronics:
    The power supply that comes with our machines is generally 8.8 A

    Computer:
    The computer that you use to control the CNC machine will have a specific wattage. Let's say the watts is 500: 500 W / 110 V = 4.5 A

    Add them up: 10 A + 8.8 A + 4.5 A = 23.3 Amps

  • The spindle drops on our greenBull when power is turned off. How do we stop this?

    When you say the spindle drops, are you referring to the z-axis assembly that contains the spindle? If so, did you replace the lead screw and anti-backlash nut with a ball screw? Ball screws have extremely little friction and will cause an assembly under gravity to move down. If not, your lead screw and anti-backlash nut friction is extremely small, which is surprising and I have never seen this before. I would be interested in seeing a picture of the assembly. Please send a picture to techsupport@buildyourcnc.com so I can investigate this issue further.

    We haven't replaced or disassembled anything on the z-axis. I will try to get some photos sent to you. Are there any adjustments or recommendations for PM of the z-axis assembly?

  • I can't spot the differences between 4'x8' blackFoot and the 4'x8' greenBull (except for laser head option): please, can you tell me?

    Only our greenBull CNC machines will be able to use the long Z-axis, due to structural construction of the greenBull over the blackFoot.
    The height from the table top to the bottom of the gantry is: 4.25"

    Both the maximum cutting height and diameter, will be dependent on the specific end mill/router bit you plan on using, since they can vary in length.
    The maximum cutting height (useful to engrave or cut material)is: with spoil-board 3.875", without a spoil-board is 4.625"
    The maximum diameter will (estimated) is: 3"

    Specifically dealing with our greenBull long Z-axis CNC machines, depending on how you specifically design the table you can have more cutting height and a larger diameter clearance. If you only create a frame for the machine with a hollow center(adjustable midsection), allowing you to have a greater clearance.
