Question: WILL THE LASER ENGRAVER WORK ON NON-ANODIZED ALUMINUM

Current Solution

no, it will only work on anodized aluminum

Respond:

Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • on the laser cutter and engraver, can it do steel and how thick

The laser engraver can cut steel to a depth of 1/4" (one quarter inch).

    Additional Information:

    Additional Information:
However, the CO2 laser cutters at 40 watts cannot cut steel.

  • What are the bolt dimensions for the SBR20 linear rails, can they work with 8020 Aluminum extrusions?

Our SBR20 rails use M8 bolts and are suitable for use with 8020 aluminum or any other common machine material. We suggest the use of our ball bearing pillow blocks with these rails, which you can find on our website here: https://buildyourcnc.com/item/mechanical-rails-linear-ball-bearing-block

  • What engraver do you have to put a logo on anodized aluminum and that is a desktop that can be transported to events?

We have two relatively small machines that can be transported to events.

One is a laser engraving and cutting machine called the blackTooth. You can find this machine here: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/cnc-machine-blacktooth-laser-cutter-engraver-40w
The blackTooth can engrave into enodized aluminum very well. The engraved (lased) portion of the anodized aluminum will turn white.

The other is a CNC machine canned the blueChick. The blueChick CNC Router can be found here: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/blueChickVersion42CNCMachineKit.aspx
The CNC router can engrave with a special engraving bit and can cut/engrave into most metals (anodized or not).

    Hope this helps.

  • I am looking at buying the blacktooth-laser-cutter-engraver-40w. Can you give me some idea of the types and thickness of material this machine will cut and/or ingrave?

Considering that "materials being lased by may emit gasses that are harmful to humans (corrode human tissue and cause damage to respiratory organs). Always read the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the material to be lased. You can find these MSDS from manufacturer websites for the material you are considering for use in the laser system."
We successfully have worked on Thin sheets of Brasswood, glass, foam, plexi-glass. The thickest materials you will be able to successfully cut is 1/4".

  • Can the laser controller work with higher output laser tubes, like 150W?

Yes, other CO2 laser tubes will work fine with our laser controller (including the Reci tube). Our laser controller is a digital based controller that controls the laser tube power supply, the motor drivers and other peripherals by outputting digital signals to these devices.

  • This is for the blackTooth Laser Engraver with integrated Laser Control Unit. The LED panel is quite a bit smaller than the cut out provided.

Please send photos of what you are trying to fit together so we can determine if you have the correct parts. The LED panel is designed to be contained in a small housing that attaches to the front of the blackTooth.

  • Hello, will the 5x10, 40w laser cutting table cut nylon fabric like 1000D Cordura?

1000D Cordura is a woven fabric made with nylon. CO2 Lasers can cut nylon but nylon melts poorly, so the finish may not be acceptable.

    Additional Information:
Thats what i was worried about. Is there any way i could get someone to run a quick test to see how the finish is? Im trying to decide to buy it or not. Most of our edges end up getting bound, so it may not be a big deal if they are a little rough

    Additional Information:
If you send me a sample of the fabric, I have no problem putting it on my Vertical Laser XL and running a few passes at different speeds and intensities. Sounds like a good opportunity for a test on video.

    Additional Information:
Also, please send me a MSDS if you can for the specific material that you have. I want to make sure there are no harmful gasses from other constituents of the fabric.

  • Will Mach 4 work on the Controller board that is meant to run Mach 3?

The Mach3 USB board found here: https://buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-electronic-component-breakout-Mach3-USB-Board

Is not designed to work under Mach4. The Mach3 USB uses a plug-in in Mach3 to function as an interpreter, sending pulses and signals to electronics from commands sent to the board from Mach3. This plugin would need to be updated to be able to work under Mach4 but the board manufacturer would need to do this update. So far, there is no plug-in that will work for Mach4 and this board.

  • What solder will stick on the tungsten terminal of the laser tube in a Blacktooth kit?

We use a standard leaded solder with flux. To help the soldering, you can add flux to the wire end and the tungsten rod. We have not tried non-leaded solder in fear that we would crack the glass with a rapid temperature rise. The leaded solder will melt at a lower temperature.

  • Is there any other software that will work with your controller Mach3?

  • Why wasn't I sent a parallel ready computer with my engraver laser kit?

If you purchased a blackTooth that contains a motherboard and internal computer peripherals, and was also provided with a parallel breakout board, then you should have received a motherboard that provides parallel functionality. In fact, all of our motherboards have parallel port capabilities; however, the motherboards have the parallel port as a LPT header on the actual motherboard (not as a typical parallel port that would be located with the other external connectors. The header is labeled LPT and is generally located along the edge. The box that the motherboard is stored in shipping should contain a parallel port ribbon cable that connects to the LPT header on the motherboard.

  • What doesn't come with the electronics that I will need so it will work?

Here is a list of the parts needed to get the electronics combo functioning (parallel or USB interface options):

    - 22 or 24 gauge stranded hookup wire to connect all of the drivers to the USB or parallel interface (terminal to terminal connections),
    - 18 gauge stranded hookup wire to connect the drivers to the power supply,
    - a power cable (extension cord) to connect from the power outlet to the power supply,
    - 4 conductor cable to connect the drivers to the stepper motors,
    - a USB cable to connect from the computer to the USB interface (or for power to the parallel interface),
    - for the parallel interface, a parallel cable is needed (male to male db-25),
    - a computer (for parallel interface, the computer will need a parallel port and if the computer does not contain a parallel interface, the motherboard may have a header for it, or you can purchase a parallel adapter to plug into the motherboard, very inexpensive),
    - cnc control software: for the USB interface, you will need planet-cnc software, for the parallel interface, you can use any industry standard cnc control software (the typical is Mach3 for Windows, or EMC2 or Linuxcnc for Linux (Linuxcnc.org).

5v power supply is not needed. The 5 volts signal level power is derived from the computer through USB on both types of interfaces.
