Does the break out board come with the short ribbon connectors? Mine was soldered together and the new one comes with a plug. If it does not come with one where do I get one, I need the short ribbon connector to go with it.

Nothing is attached to the relay pins I am only using 2 and 3 and 5v for x driver and led indicator, 4 and 5 and 5v for y driver and led indicator, and 6 to fire the laser and the led indicator. I am also using a 5v out for the laser power control circuit and one pin of the 5k pot. Ground is shared on the laser power supply, the cnc power supply and the x and y driver. I am using the computer motherboard supplied by Buildyoucnc running ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS and linuxcnc. Bios is set to use ECP, I have tried normal and I have tried EPP, all with the same results. If I plug in the parallel after the computer starts up it doesn't switch but I can't control either axis motors

I am using the parallel BoB for the 40 watt C02 Laser Cutter and Engraver(blacktooth), with the supplied integrated computer running Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS and linuxcnc. Right now, when I have the parallel header connected to the BoB(as well as usb power supplied by the computer) and I start the computer, I am able to see the first splash screen of text indicating that the computer is starting up, then the relay on the BoB switches, turning the computer off and then back on again. This happens over and over again and the computer cannot fully start into the linux os. If I unplug the parallel cable from the BoB, I can start the computer, sign in and then plug the BoB back in without it shutting down the computer. Can anyone explain why this happens? I should also say that I cannot talk to the steppers in stepconfig of linuxcnc, I get to the test this motor section and nothing happens when I try to jog either the x or y motors. In the y config, I actually triggered the relay and sent the machine back into the start up failure loop I mentioned in the beginning.

Fixed this problem, the parallel cable was not seated well, found some screws to make a strong connection, now that part is working. Unfortunately, the stepconfig in linuxcnc is still not talking to the motor drivers and the setup for determining steps for inch in the build instructions is nothing like the set up in linuxcnc. In the instructions it says motor steps per revolution*microsteps/pulley pitch per tooth*number of teeth and in this case the recommended input would be (200*16)/.08*20 teeth = 2000 steps per inch the formula in linuxcnc is very different

I would recommend using a separate 24VDC power supply for the controller. The 24VDC that is connected to the controller is used for delicate input signals and output signals that control external devices. To keep interference and possible current and voltage fluctuations at a minimum due to the motor load, a separate power supply would be best.

[575] Can the 24VDC supply used for the interface board be the same supply used for stepper drivers, or do you need separate power supplies? If not, does GND and DCM need to be isolated?

For our parallel breakout board (https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/electronicsAndMotors-parallel-breakout-relay#prettyPhoto/2/) the schematic will show the connections going from the BB to the drivers. The parallel breakout board uses the 25 pin parallel connection to communicate from the computer to drivers, and the USB is used to power the main-board itself, supplying 5V.

We need clarification on what you mean by threading: a parallel computer process, creating threads on a screw on a turning center, or threading a hole using a tap controlled by a CNC machine. If it's the latter two, you would rely on the stepping motors and dead reckoning (open loop system). Stepping motors will move exactly as instructed and have exact stop and positional accuracy so the threads would be constructed as intended; therefore, no need for encoders and feedback (closed loop system)

Planet-CNC breakout board supports encoder inputs. I don't see this feature on your's. How does your board support threding, etc.?

To use the inputs and outputs on the MAch3 USB controller, you will need at least a 12 VDC power supply inte 24V terminal (V+) and the DCM terminal (V-). The common lead of the limit switch will be connected to DCM (V-) and the NO (Normally Open ) lead of the limit switch will be connected to the Input of your choice (IN1 - IN4).

Hi, this BBB comes with a USB port and its cable to power it up. Once connected to the computer a led in the BBB will light up to show it has power.

Hello, we are trying to assemble a kit and the breakout board rev 2.1 that we have does not match the video... we do not see where to connect the 5v powersource to finish step #3, can you provide a location for the power hookup for our board.

The parallel breakout board contains a USB port to power the board. Through the USB port, the computer delivers 5v of stable power to the parallel breakout board, but doe not provide any communication as would normally be associated with USB connectivity.

The reason we elected to use the USB port to provide power is to remove the need for an external 5v wall adapter.

The firmware update for the USB board is done by PlanetCNC. with your board hooked up to the computer via USB cable, log into PlanetCNC. Then, from the Machine tab on the toolbar choose firmware from the drop down and click on update.

We could not guarantee, nor say, whether or not your current software would be able to utilize the USB breakout board. Our USB breakout board is designed for use with Planet CNC software found here, http://www.planet-cnc.com/index.php?page=software

As far as we know, this is the only CNC Controller software that operates on a USB breakout controller.
