Question #: 14798

Question: Do you have a plans set for the Vertical Laser XL?

Current Solution

The plans for the Vertical Laser XL version 2 are available now. The item is not shown on the website yet, but you can purchase them by emailing us at CustomerService@BuildYourCNC.com

The cost for the plans is $650 and is a full-size 71 page set of plans measuring 24"x36". Each part that needs to be cut out is at a 1:1 ratio so you can use the plans to create the parts directly. Each part is also dimensioned completely. You will find a BOM (Bill of Materials) on the first page. The parts can be purchase from buildyourcnc.com or other suppliers.

  • DO YOU GIVE AWAY THE PLANS FOR REDLEAF/REDSPROUT BOX?

Thanks for the kind words. The kit is available for those that want the parts to assemble the case which comes with the computer parts. If you don't need the computer parts, let me know and I will offer the bare bones without the computer system.

    Previous Solution:
I already have a DIY CNC machine with all my electronics but I have two cases the size of a mid tower PC and was looking to shrink the weight and footprint of all of them. I understand if you don't have plans available, I just really loved the design and compactness of your case.

    Previous Solution:
The redLeaf and redSprout boxes are meant to provide enclosure to the systems that we assemble in-house for customers that prefer a complete plug and play system. We provide the kit of parts for the enclosure from overwhelming customer request. There are no plans available for the enclosure and the complexity of the parts needed to be fabricated is quite high where the task of cutting out all of the intricate parts by hand would be a larger investment in time and materials than the cost to purchase the kit.

    Additional Information:
Just curious at what you would sell the box itself empty or the dimension files for the box for?

  • DO NEED TO SQUARE UP THE MACHINE AND IF SO YOU HAVE INSTRUCTIONS OR VIDEO FOR THIS?

The eyebolts are used in the squaring of the machine. I would use a standard carpenters square and first run the end mill along the edge of the square to first make it parallel with the long axis. Then run the end mill along the other edge with the short axis and adjust the eye bolts and chain according to the angle that the machine is out of square.

  • I was in the process of aligning mirrors for our vertical XL and suddenly the laser does not fire anymore, there is an arcing sound and a light near the Anode (positive) connector of the tube on the very inside. Do you think the laser tube would go bad so quickly? how could we avoid this?

Can you check if there are cracks in the inner glass tube? Also, check to see if there is water between the inner glass tube and the outer glass tube. That will give you an indication of cracking in the inner glass tube.

  • For the XL Vertical Laser Machine I see it won't cut metal as it is only 80w. However, I noticed that you are working on 100w and 130w versions so will that be sufficient to cut through sheet metal? If so, how much longer until those are available?

Cutting metal with lasers even at 100W and 130W is difficult. The main problem is molten is a byproduct of lasing, which can severely damage the laser.

  • I have the book which has the plans. Are there cad files?

There is currently no CAD files available with any CNC machines that we currently have on the market.

However for our BYCNC book, we have a pdf file with all the parts you will need to fabricate here: (https://buildyourcnc.com/Documents/CNC%20Kit%201-1.pdf), however some modifications and updates have been made, which you can purchase the new files and DVD here: (https://buildyourcnc.com/cnckitintro.aspx).

  • The plans available for download for the "whiteAnt 3D Plastic Printer" do not have dimensions. Are the dimensions shown in the book? Is there a DWG file available?

The plans for the whiteAnt 3D Printer will have the dimesions, and the dimensions will be on the individual pieces(cut to spec). The machine is relatively small, so maybe you expected the size(dimensions) to be larger.

  • Do you have a more detailed diagram of the rotary and 15A limit switches on the vlxl?

Are you trying to determine how to wire the switches or where to place them on the Vertical Laser XL? Let me know and I will provide some pictures or video on how to do this.

    Additional Information:
Kind of both. Have somewhat of an idea as to how to wire them but you included rotary and other limit switches. Not sure which ones to put where. Never worked with these before.
