Question #: 2275

Question: I want to buy your product, could you shipping to other country (I'm in Indonesia)?

Current Solution

You can determine if the country is serviceable by:
- selecting the items you want to purchase on the website
- go to the cart (shopping cart top left of any webpage)
- log in, or register
- Enter the address and click on calculate shipping.

The webpage will return the direct rates and whether your area is serviced or not. Feel free to enter any address as long as you are able to receive the package from that address.

The shipping times are determined by the service you select in the shopping cart. If a machine is purchased, we generally have a one week lead time unless otherwise stated in the description of the machine's product page.

  • I have your USB controller sitting here and want to control it with something other than PlanetCNC control software?

The USB controller will only work with the Planet-CNC software. This software is well made and will provide great functionality. The planet-cnc software delivers instructions to the microcontroller on the board and the microcontroller will send out the pulse trains needed to move the machine correctly.

There are two main alternatives if you want to use the mach3 software:
First, get a parallel port card and add it to your computer and get a parallel breakout board. If you have a laptop/notebook computer, this will not be possible.
Second, if you have a laptop, or really want to use the USB as the main interface for controlling the machine, you will need to get the smoothstepper board which works with mach3. The price combination is much higher than the USB controller with planet-cnc, but will work with Mach3.

    Additional Information:
The planet cnc controller can be prone to electrical interference and has been known to cause such problems. In the first instance try to use a quality double sheilded USB cable, hopefully this will fix your problem. Alternatively you may need to sheild your limit switch, estop and or motor cabling. My pick is that a quality USB cable will fix it though, worked for me.

  • are you out of your freaking minds with these shipping rates. About to go through with order but you lost me! Good luck!

Thank you for your feedback. Generally we are considered to be quite sane as a collective, although this can change from time to time.

We have a disclaimer on shipping rates, especially if you are ordering from outside of the United States, rates are generally shown only for air-shipments from USPS, UPS, and FedEX, which can be quite expensive. We do work with several freight and shipping companies that allow us to calculate options for lowering shipping costs. These companies do not generally have APIs that we can integrate into the website, so we need time to process quotes.

If the shipping quote you received from the website seems unreasonable, there is a good chance we can quote you a better rate. All you need to do is inquire with sales@buildyourcnc.com and we will make sure we get you the best possible rate.

  • i want to use servo motors(panasonic liqi series) instead of stepper motor, would it work with your breakout board if i buy one from you?

I would need to see the drivers and what type of input it requires.

    Additional Information:
actually my neighbour is using panasonic liqi series servo motors, and yes i can show you the connections he made on the driver terminals. he had used a loacal made breakout board, which i dont want to use... the breakout board has 5 terminals, step, direction, vcc, ground, and 12v

    Additional Information:
The connections are the same as stepping motor drivers. I would assume that those servo motors have the closed loop control between the motor and driver and the computer is not considered as a part of the closed loop. In that case, the breakout board would work fine.

    Additional Information:
i've seen your videos related to the connections of the breakout board to the motor driver, your breakout board dont have 12v terminal as in that local made breakout board.can i provide that extra 12v from another source to the servo motor driver?
i can send you the photos of the driver connections and the breakout board connections?
how can i purchase your breakout board, can you send your parallel port breakout board to my country?
how much would it cost me including shipping?

    Additional Information:
What terminals will require the 12v power. If the 12v serves as the data signal level power for step and direction, then it is not possible with this board, but if the 12v serves as power for another part of the driver, then you can use a separate supply.

  • CNC hardware and Plans and the does not want to pay for Customs coming into his country.

Try slowing your feedrate down and increasing spindle RPMs. End-mills will leave a poor finish if you go too fast. Make sure your cutting depth isn't too much. Maybe the endmill or cutter is blunt? Could it be the feed direction of the cutter? Some materials need to be fed in a certain direction.

  • I couldn't find any information about how to mount the "z-axis lead screw in the book" (Build Your Own CNC)

The details will differ depending on the type of lead screw you use.

For allthread lead screws, you will need the 1/2" square nut, 1/2" allthread lead screw, two 1/4" screws and nuts to hold the square nut in place, two 1/2" ID bearings, two standard 1/2" nuts, and one coupling hub.

Attach the square nut to the nut support using the two 1/4" screw and nuts. The bearings will need to be inserted into the seats of the lower and upper part of the z-axis. Insert the lead screw through the top bearing. Use one of the standard 1/2" nuts and start threading it on the allthread screw just below the bearing. Lower the lead screw to the square nut and start to screw the lead screw into the square nut. Continue until the screw is near the lower bearing. Add another standard 1/2" nut to the screw and keep turning the screw until the screw just passes the lower bearing. Add the coupling hub to the top of the screw just above the upper bearing. Turn the lower and upper standard 1/2" nuts until they are snug against the bearing. If the standard 1/2" nuts become loosened, consider adding another nut to each end against the existing nut to keep them in place.

For 1/2" acme 5 start lead screws, you will need to use an antibacklash nut in place of the square nut. This nut attaches with a flange using two #8 screws and nuts. The standard 1/2" nuts are replaced by clamping collars.

  • what options can you offered to international customers to assist in them building one of your machines? International shipping of a kit would be too expensive.

We are able to ship internationally but unfortunately we cannot control the shipping costs incurred for international customers. However, if you are associated with educational programs or Makerspaces and/or Fab Labs we do offer certain discounts in some cases. Please send an email to customer service for more information on receiving a quote.

  • will your parallel port breakout board fry my motherboard in any unfortunate event?

The parallel breakout board can damage the motherboard if anything happens to the board to cause a error. The parallel BoB, is tested before shipment so it should not cause any damage on arrival.
As most electronic components there are a lot of possibilities that may cause damaged. If your motherboard is having issues or you are concerned about the parallel breakout board causing damaged.
We recommend to try to run your computer with both the parallel and USB power disconnected from your computer and run a project without the CNC connected and test for irregularities with the computer running.
Then add the cables for the breakout board and re-test.

  • Will it be possible to only buy the CNC plans, I live in South Africa and shipping is very expensive...

The files and hardware option for our machines has been removed from the site due to the following reasons:
Difficulty for the end use of the files and the challenges (and time/money) on our side to assist in using these files.
The abuse of these files over the internet.
Ultimately may reduce the sales of machines keeping us in business.
Sadly, this is what has come out of our company attempting to be open; however, the machines sold on this site is still far lower in price than the competition for the quality that we provide as we have a great desire to engender the cottage industry to fulfill their need for low end manufacturing. My sincere apologies if this causes any inconvenience.

  • I am looking at 2 of your motor drivers. 1 is the 1/64 step and the other is 1/256. What is the difference between the two?

Stepper motors are designed to move in specific increments; these increments are called "steps". For example, a common standard is for 200 steps per full revolution. Microstepping is a method to send signals to the motor to move only a fraction of a full step at a time. For example, if a motor has 200 steps per revolution and is microstepped 1/16, then effectively there are 3200 small step movements (microsteps) per revolution instead of 200 larger ones. This makes the motion of the motor much smoother and more precisely controllable, at the cost of decreased holding torque.

Here are is a good references for stepper motor theory: http://users.ece.utexas.edu/~valvano/Datasheets/StepperMicrostep.pdf

And Wikipedia has a good overview as well:
