Question #: 3404

Question: There was a set of plans for the torsion table needed for the 4x8 machine, I cannot find them.

Current Solution

My favorite explanation and video onhow to make a torsion box table comes from the Wood Whisperer.

Part 1 of the torsion box video can be found here:

Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • . I purchased the 5x Greembull recently and was hoping I could get some advice and/or plans for the torsion box and table

A torsion box is a way to create a dead flat surface for the CNC router. A torsion box consists of an internal grid of wood that serves as the structure and a top and bottom layer sandwiching the internal grid layer.

Here is an excellent resource on how to make a torsion box.
    http://www.core77.com/posts/26334/A-Look-at-Torsion-Boxes

Make sure to leave 2 inches or more overhang on the top layer (3/4" thick) to make room for the rails and the chain mounts.

  • I was told you have some free CNC machine plans. I can't find them. Where are they?

We do not offer any free plans. We offer the CNC Scratch Build Kit which includes plans to build a CNC machine from scratch. You can find more information about this by clicking on this link https://buildyourcnc.com/cnckitintro.aspx

    Additional Information:
WTF!! It says right on your utube page free plans available. I'll paste it from Utube right here.(DIY CNC Router for Under $900 - Free Plans Available) Very misleading, I spent a lot of time looking for this stuff and am lucky I found this because apparently none of its available for free. Very misleading, dishonest sales tactics. I'm sure you've made money conning honest people out of there money but your not gonna get shit from me. After reading what other people here have written, and the fact that you lie about the cost, at least on UTUBE, It is clear your a liar and a piece of shit. carry on though by all means and continue making money being a liar.

  • Do you have any videos or plans for how to make a strong table for a large CNC router? I saw the torsion box videos but would like some more guidance on how to build just a good table.
  • I'm assembling the gantry for a 5x10 greenbull and noticed that there are 9 spaces for torsion spacers but only 7 in the kit. Should I just space them out on the right side behind the motor?

That is correct. We send the fewer ribs than could be fastened within the gantry. One reduction of a rib will provide more space for the motor at the midpoint of the gantry and at the other side of the gantry (opposite the motor) can be reduced to provide more space to work with the coupling.

  • I need the drive setting for the 1.5kw spindle drive to work with the spindle motor where do I find them

If you purchased the spindle from us, you should have received a little booklet that shows all of the program settings. If you did not receive that booklet, please call us so we can send you this booklet.

If you have the booklet, please let us know specifically what setting you would like to set and we can help.

  • Is there a better manual for the laser engraving controle having problems with the set up of the stepping motors etc

This "question 12186" could be a good place to house questions on the laser controller. We are in the process of creating thorough video instructions, but please add specific questions by clicking the "submit additional information" and we will answer questions regarding the laser controller with detail.

  • table dimensions and clearance for 4' x 8' greenbull (torsion box)?

For the 6'x12' greenBull table dimensions, the table width for the greenBull table must be 80.078" (6.67' or 203.398 cm) and must overhang the underside structure by 1-1/2" to make room for the rails and this overhang portion should be 3/4" thick. The length can be variable, but remember that the gantry takes up some of that space, so add about 34 inches to make room of the gantry and the connecting hardware for the roller chain on the four corners. We recommend if you want a full 12 feet of travel, the table must be at least 178 inches.

  • There are no limit switches in my Greenbull 5x10 kit. Are these no longer needed?

You most definitely should have received limit switches in your package. We will send you the missing limit switches.

But to directly answer your question; no, limit switches are not needed with CNC machines. You can set up soft limits to make sure the machine does not go out of bounds.

With that said, if the motors stall for some reason and the computer does not know the actual position of the gantry or the spindle, then the machine may actually go out of bounds and the machine may hit a physical limit. With or without limit switches, the machine will stop.

    Additional Information:
Please call the office so that we know who you are and we can send the limit switches to the correct person.

  • I BOUGHT YOUR BOOK AND WAS HOPEING IT HAD PLANS OR DIMENTIONS ON HOW TO BUILD A CNC HOLD 4X8 SHEET OF PLY. WILL THE IN SCALE UP?

    BYCNC Response:
The book build was intended to be 20 inches x 40 inches. Larger machines were designed after the book build was introduced so customers would have the option to go bigger than what the book offered. Check out our larger machines on the website as the machines sizes range from 1 foot x 3 feet all the way up to 6 feet x 12+ feet.

    User Response:
I'm not wanting to spend $3,000+ on a machine, I want to build one that will do a 4x8 sheet of wood. Will the plans in the book scale up?

    BYCNC Response:
It is possible to scale the book build up, but the rigidity of the gantry would be questionable at that span, even if the height of the gantry structure were to be increased. The gantry design would need to be modified to become a box shape rather than a flat configuration. The kits on the site were design for those wanting a larger machine.

  • Can I buy an asembled gauntry for the 4x8 table heavy duty only and pick up?

Actual table dimension: 4'x8' is 56.078"x 121.50" (the overhang in the illustrations should be 3/4" thick)
To determine the frame dimensions, first consider using the frame height shown of almost 3' (2.86'). The width of the frame should be 4" narrower than the dimension from rail edge to rail edge (6X rail to rail is 80.078"). This will provide a 2" overhang on both sides (4X frame width should be 56.078").
The length of the frame should be 4" shorter than the desired length of the rails to provide a 2" overhang on both ends. The travel length will be 20" shorter than the rail length due to the space occupied by the gantry sides.
Two long pieces of 3/4" material will need to be placed on top of the frame with the 2" overhang on the sides and the end. These long strips of material will receive the rails and the chain mounts on the ends.

  • ARE THERE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE PREVENTION OF INSTITUTIONAL OUTBREAKS INFLUENZA?

The most important factor in preventing outbreaks is annual vaccination of all occupants of the facility, and all persons in the facility who share the same air as the high-risk occupants. Groups that should be targeted include physicians, nurses, and other personnel in hospitals and outpatient settings who have contact with high-risk patients in all age groups, and providers of home care to high-risk persons (e.g., visiting nurses, volunteers).
