Question #: 3404

Question: There was a set of plans for the torsion table needed for the 4x8 machine, I cannot find them.

Current Solution

My favorite explanation and video onhow to make a torsion box table comes from the Wood Whisperer.

Part 1 of the torsion box video can be found here:

Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • . I purchased the 5x Greembull recently and was hoping I could get some advice and/or plans for the torsion box and table

A torsion box is a way to create a dead flat surface for the CNC router. A torsion box consists of an internal grid of wood that serves as the structure and a top and bottom layer sandwiching the internal grid layer.

Here is an excellent resource on how to make a torsion box.
    http://www.core77.com/posts/26334/A-Look-at-Torsion-Boxes

Make sure to leave 2 inches or more overhang on the top layer (3/4" thick) to make room for the rails and the chain mounts.

  • Do you have any videos or plans for how to make a strong table for a large CNC router? I saw the torsion box videos but would like some more guidance on how to build just a good table.
  • I'm assembling the gantry for a 5x10 greenbull and noticed that there are 9 spaces for torsion spacers but only 7 in the kit. Should I just space them out on the right side behind the motor?

That is correct. We send the fewer ribs than could be fastened within the gantry. One reduction of a rib will provide more space for the motor at the midpoint of the gantry and at the other side of the gantry (opposite the motor) can be reduced to provide more space to work with the coupling.

  • I was told you have some free CNC machine plans. I can't find them. Where are they?

We do not offer any free plans. We offer the CNC Scratch Build Kit which includes plans to build a CNC machine from scratch. You can find more information about this by clicking on this link https://buildyourcnc.com/cnckitintro.aspx

    Additional Information:
WTF!! It says right on your utube page free plans available. I'll paste it from Utube right here.(DIY CNC Router for Under $900 - Free Plans Available) Very misleading, I spent a lot of time looking for this stuff and am lucky I found this because apparently none of its available for free. Very misleading, dishonest sales tactics. I'm sure you've made money conning honest people out of there money but your not gonna get shit from me. After reading what other people here have written, and the fact that you lie about the cost, at least on UTUBE, It is clear your a liar and a piece of shit. carry on though by all means and continue making money being a liar.

    Additional Information:
So maybe you should edit your YT post that says you DO have free plans?

  • I BOUGHT YOUR BOOK AND WAS HOPEING IT HAD PLANS OR DIMENTIONS ON HOW TO BUILD A CNC HOLD 4X8 SHEET OF PLY. WILL THE IN SCALE UP?

    BYCNC Response:
The book build was intended to be 20 inches x 40 inches. Larger machines were designed after the book build was introduced so customers would have the option to go bigger than what the book offered. Check out our larger machines on the website as the machines sizes range from 1 foot x 3 feet all the way up to 6 feet x 12+ feet.

    User Response:
I'm not wanting to spend $3,000+ on a machine, I want to build one that will do a 4x8 sheet of wood. Will the plans in the book scale up?

    BYCNC Response:
It is possible to scale the book build up, but the rigidity of the gantry would be questionable at that span, even if the height of the gantry structure were to be increased. The gantry design would need to be modified to become a box shape rather than a flat configuration. The kits on the site were design for those wanting a larger machine.

  • Is there a better manual for the laser engraving controle having problems with the set up of the stepping motors etc

This "question 12186" could be a good place to house questions on the laser controller. We are in the process of creating thorough video instructions, but please add specific questions by clicking the "submit additional information" and we will answer questions regarding the laser controller with detail.

  • Can I buy an asembled gauntry for the 4x8 table heavy duty only and pick up?

Actual table dimension: 4'x8' is 56.078"x 121.50" (the overhang in the illustrations should be 3/4" thick)
To determine the frame dimensions, first consider using the frame height shown of almost 3' (2.86'). The width of the frame should be 4" narrower than the dimension from rail edge to rail edge (6X rail to rail is 80.078"). This will provide a 2" overhang on both sides (4X frame width should be 56.078").
The length of the frame should be 4" shorter than the desired length of the rails to provide a 2" overhang on both ends. The travel length will be 20" shorter than the rail length due to the space occupied by the gantry sides.
Two long pieces of 3/4" material will need to be placed on top of the frame with the 2" overhang on the sides and the end. These long strips of material will receive the rails and the chain mounts on the ends.

  • I PURCHASED YOUR BOOK TO BUILD A CNC ROUTER, THE PLAN DRAWINGS ARE INDECIPHERABLE AND TEXT WITH THEM IS ILLEGIBLE. THERE NOTE REFER MDF PARTS LAYOUT 1 PDF, 2 PDF PLANS & CUT LIST DOWNLOADABLE FROM THIS SITE. WHERE THEY CAN'T FIND THEM?

Looks like you are trying to screw me out of $30 plus tax as there will be no pdf files forthcoming unless I shell out another $255. Unless you provide the pdf files I will be forced to seek return of funds and will be notifying VISA, GOOGLE PLAY and the BBB doing so until I get satisfaction. If you are not going to honor your book title by providing complete usable information you should remove your book from the market place, or offer it for free. At this point I don't know how you justify screwing your customers like this, but this one ain't going to take it laying down.

  • Is there a specific process for aligning the x axis on the greenbull? There is mention of it at the end either the rail or gantry installation but I could not find it anywhere.

If you are referring to aligning the rails so that the rails are perfectly parallel:

It is important to make sure one rail (a rail at one side of the table) is perfectly aligned first. Do this by fastening one end of the rail to the table (flush with the table edge), then fasten the other end (flush with the table edge). The rail may not be perfectly straight at this point, but that's ok. This process includes the top and bottom rail, fastening and positioning simultaneously.

You are going to fasten the midpoint of the rail. Get a clamp ready so that you can freeze the rail in place. Look down the rail from one end. This is a good way to determine if the rail has a curve, or is straight. If there is a curve, move the rail midpoint laterally until the rail is straight while looking down the rail from one end of the rail. This may take a couple of people to do, one looks down the rail, the other moves it slightly until it is straight and then clamps the rail. Drill and fasten the midpoint when satisfied. Repeat this process, fastening at the midpoint between screws.

Now place the gantry on the table with the v-groove bearings resting on the one rail side. Add the next rail to the other side of the table. Position the rail so that it is directly under the other bearings. Make sure the gantry is at the extreme end and fasten the rail at that end. Move the gantry along the and fasten the rail as you move the gantry so the rail auto-positions itself.

    Additional Information:
Thanks for your answer. So the next step is making certain that the gantry is exactly perpendicular to the x axis. Do you just place a square on the rail and adjust one or both chains as needed?

  • Is there any sort of warranty provided by the manufacturers for the 40w laser tube?

We included our 30 day warranty, but since it is considered a consumable and is considered to run the expected length (1000 HRS) the manufacture does not included a warranty.

  • ARE THERE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE PREVENTION OF INSTITUTIONAL OUTBREAKS INFLUENZA?

The most important factor in preventing outbreaks is annual vaccination of all occupants of the facility, and all persons in the facility who share the same air as the high-risk occupants. Groups that should be targeted include physicians, nurses, and other personnel in hospitals and outpatient settings who have contact with high-risk patients in all age groups, and providers of home care to high-risk persons (e.g., visiting nurses, volunteers).
