### Question #: 14361

Question: Can I buy an asembled gauntry for the 4x8 table heavy duty only and pick up?

Current Solution

Actual table dimension: 4'x8' is 56.078"x 121.50" (the overhang in the illustrations should be 3/4" thick)
To determine the frame dimensions, first consider using the frame height shown of almost 3' (2.86'). The width of the frame should be 4" narrower than the dimension from rail edge to rail edge (6X rail to rail is 80.078"). This will provide a 2" overhang on both sides (4X frame width should be 56.078").
The length of the frame should be 4" shorter than the desired length of the rails to provide a 2" overhang on both ends. The travel length will be 20" shorter than the rail length due to the space occupied by the gantry sides.
Two long pieces of 3/4" material will need to be placed on top of the frame with the 2" overhang on the sides and the end. These long strips of material will receive the rails and the chain mounts on the ends.

• There was a set of plans for the torsion table needed for the 4x8 machine, I cannot find them.

My favorite explanation and video onhow to make a torsion box table comes from the Wood Whisperer.

Part 1 of the torsion box video can be found here:

• If I purchase the Heavy Duty redleaf system (651 oz-in motors) and your 4th Axis Tail Stock setup will you configure the 4th axis to the computer? Your site states the 4th axis add on is "for a total of 4 axes 425 oz-in motors only"

We can configure the redLeaf or redSprout to control the motor of a 4th axis. The driver we use for the motor on the 4th axis is our standard 3.0 amp driver.

• How small of end mills are commonly used for cutting balsa? What thickness of balsa can these smaller mills handle?

The size of end mills can vary to extremely tiny to very large cutting diameters. The smaller the cutting diameters, the shorter the available cutting length due to the possibility of breakage. You will first need to determine the thickness, or depth you will need to cut and find the available cut diameters for that depth.

To cut balsa wood, almost any standard 1 to 4 flute end mill will be fine that are intended to be used with wood. The end mill will state the materials that it can cut. Wood end mills will exhibit a flute geometry that is more stretched out to straight.

• I would like to do a review on your 4x8 table, we are the new kids in town looking to give honest reviews no BS. We want no affiliate bonus or sponsorship we only ask for free product so that we can educate ourselfs and others while giving honest feedback

What organization are you with and how will you use the CNC?

• So the only way to get one of your machines is to buy it already cut, and/or assembled? I can't cut one on my existing machine?

That is correct, the only manner to get our machines is to buy one of our kits. We do not provide or sell our plans, the only CNC machine you can find on our website will be the scratch build kit and plans which is a 20' x 40' , (https://buildyourcnc.com/Documents/CNC%20Kit%201-1.pdf).

• do you have the lovejove 1/4 x 1/2 couplings in stock and can they be picked up locally in the Houston Texas area?

We have a generic version of those couplings which are made of the same material and function exactly the same, but with two set screws for each hub rather than one.

The coupling will be in stock unless otherwise noted on the product page for that particular coupling.

Can the parts be picked up locally in the Houston Texas area?

• I need a Rigit Coupling that is 1/2" on one side and 5/16 on the other side. Can you get that for me?

We sell both coupling hubs that can be created to your specific needs. Which will be here https://www.buildyourcnc.com/couplings.aspx and would be the bottom coupling hub's, not the rigid couplings.

So essentially you would get the Single 1/2" Coupling Hub and the Single 1/4" Coupling Hub, and etc. for different combinations.

• What power supply do you recommend for the spindle and limit switches if I buy the USB Mach3 breakout board?

Any of the following power supplies will be fine for powering the Mach3 USB controller:
https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/24v

however, the limit switches do not need high current, so the following power supply is sufficient for the task of connecting limit switches:

• what is the outside diameter of each opening on the metallic T connect for the Vacuum System Cups and Nozzle for pick and place?

The outside diameter on the T-Connector is 1/4" (.25 inch)

• Can you tell me what gauge wire is needed for limits switches and the spindle?

The hookup wires you will need is 22 to 24 AWG stranded and shielded for the wiring of the limit switches and E_Stop. Our kit customers select various places for these switches, so we don't supply the wiring. If you don't use shielded cable, you will need to change the debounce setting in Mach3 (if that is the control program you are using).

We typically use 14 AWG stranded wire for the VFD to Spindle (U, V, W) connections.
