Question: What electronics configuration is included with the blackfoot if I choose that option?

Current Solution

There are three options on the blackFoot product page.

Two options include either electronics that use the USB interface, or parallel interface. Both of these options include stepping motors (two 425 oz-in and one 651 oz-in), motor drivers (two 3.0 amp and one 6.0 amp), power supply and either a parallel breakout board, or USB breakout board. The USB interface must be used with the planet-cnc software. The parallel interface can be used in a wider variety of control software but will require a parallel port on your computer. If a parallel port doesn't exist, you can purchase a PCI parallel port adapter (for desktop computers only).

The other option does not include electronics. This option is if you already have electronics, motors and drivers that will work with this machine, or you wish to purchase the redLeaf or redSprout assembled and plug and play CNC electronics and computer system.

  • Looking to buy a black toe 2x4, what electronics are included ? Is it optional with USB-interface? And for last do you ship to sweden?
  • If I purchase the blackFoot and the Plug and Play system will it come with 2 sets of electronics?

    Try slowing your feedrate down and increasing spindle RPMs. End-mills will leave a poor finish if you go too fast. Make sure your cutting depth isn't too much. Maybe the endmill or cutter is blunt? Could it be the feed direction of the cutter? Some materials need to be fed in a certain direction.

    A generalized list of what comes with the machine is on the product description page. A full packing list will come with the order, so that you can check for missing parts. We can not provide a full, detailed, list of parts without an order.   • I have a 4x8 CNC and would like to cut my own parts for the Blackfoot. What is the price for the plans and the electronics ?

    The available options for the blackFoot, is only structural components with hardware, and structure components/hardware with electronic components.
    However we currently do not have any plans available for public use/distribution.

  • Whiteant- In the software there is a configuration for a heated bed. Where would I wire this in the kit's electronics if i bought one? Would the temperature be on/off or PID?

    Currently we planned on having upgraded electronics with the whiteAnt 3D printer, which would have had the ability to support the heated bed, and other options. Which is why there was a configuration file in the downloadable files. However in newer developments we have been working on our prototype blackAnt 3D printer which will have the upgraded electronics and the option for the heated bed, but currently our whiteAnt cannot support the heated bed with the gen4 electronics supplied with the kit.

    The plans/hardware/electronics/mechanical includes everything but the wood structural components that can be cut by the customer. This plans/hardware option includes all of the electronics, like motors, drivers, controller, and all of the cables and wires to connect all of the electronics together. The mechanical components include shafts, couplings, linear rails, bearing blocks, sprockets, lead screws, etc. The hardware consists of all of the screws nuts, insert nuts, cross dowels, etc, to assemble all of the structural, mechanical, and electronics together.

    - 22 or 24 gauge stranded hookup wire to connect all of the drivers to the USB or parallel interface (terminal to terminal connections),
    - 18 gauge stranded hookup wire to connect the drivers to the power supply,
    - a power cable (extension cord) to connect from the power outlet to the power supply,
    - 4 conductor cable to connect the drivers to the stepper motors,
    - a USB cable to connect from the computer to the USB interface (or for power to the parallel interface),
    - for the parallel interface, a parallel cable is needed (male to male db-25),
    - a computer (for parallel interface, the computer will need a parallel port and if the computer does not contain a parallel interface, the motherboard may have a header for it, or you can purchase a parallel adapter to plug into the motherboard, very inexpensive),
    - cnc control software: for the USB interface, you will need planet-cnc software, for the parallel interface, you can use any industry standard cnc control software (the typical is Mach3 for Windows, or EMC2 or Linuxcnc for Linux (Linuxcnc.org).

    5v power supply is not needed. The 5 volts signal level power is derived from the computer through USB on both types of interfaces.

Parallel ports are a direct connection from the processor commonly referred to as GPIO pins (General Purpose I/O pins) and provides a convenient and powerful way to interface with the computer. The parallel breakout board is included in those kits only to condition those signals for use with the drivers.

    The USB serves at the actual controller, sending the pulse trains, but the computer sends simple human readable instructions to the USB controller to tell the controller how to send pulses.

    The non-technical differences that may serve as the most important information to you is that the parallel configurations allow for a wider variety of industry standard software that can be used to control the cnc machine. The USB that we offer requires the operator to use a software called Planet-CNC software which is a very well made and feature full cnc control software.

    if you purchased the USB interface, you will need planet-cnc software rather than Mach3, and you will need a usb cable to connect the usb interface to the computer.

    The blackToe 2x4 CNC Machine Kit with optional table will need wire to connect the electronics. Don't forget to get some end mills to use for cutting the intended material.

  • Which electronics unit comes with item #230, the 3 axis USB or parallel? If parallel, do you have a package price that includes the USB electronics?
  • Fabricator Pro 4x8 plans, electronics, hardware and mechanical components....is this a wood gantry machine? What all is not included?

    There really isn't any specific brand. We purchase the components in a disparate fashion from China. I will product a video today that shows all of the components that we use and also offer the components on the website.

    From the upcoming video, you will be able to identify the parts is you feel you want to search for these components yourself.

    All our machines are implemented with a dust collection system, includes holders for vacuum hose, and a brush piece that will fit your motor mount to hold as much wood/aluminum/plexi-glass particles in as possible. No vacuum is provided, must be purchased separately.

  • Does the power supply in the "3 Axis Electronics Combo (Small Motors)" have a 220V input option?

    In our 3-Axis electronics kit, the power supply's provided are capable of both 110V-220V. You have the capability to switch between both in case you might decide to run 220v in the near future or will relocate where 110v is being used.

  • What is the wiring configuration for limit switches on the laser controller?

    If you are using the AWC708 or equivalent laser controller, the limit switches will connect between the EL input terminal and the GND terminal in normally open (NO) connection. Most limit switches can be connected as NO, or normally closed (NC).

    For instance, a limit switch for the X- limit will be connected from the ELX- terminal to the NO connection of the limit switch, then a connection from the GND terminal on the laser controller to the COM connection to the same limit switch.

  • The pin configuration on my spindle’s connector. It is not clear what number references which pin.

    1, 2, and 3 will be used. They connect to the U, V and W connections on the VFD. I would actually use a shielded cable as this cable is used with motor coils and will definitely send off EMF. Connect the shield to the earth ground terminal in the VFD.

    If the spindle spins in the wrong direction than expected, just swap two of the U, V, W wires on the VFD. It doesn't matter which two of the three wires.
