Question #: 13488

Question: table dimensions for large format 4' by 8' greenbull?

Current Solution

Actual table dimension: 4'x8' is 56.078"x 121.50" (the overhang in the illustrations should be 3/4" thick)
To determine the frame dimensions, first consider using the frame height shown of almost 3' (2.86'). The width of the frame should be 4" narrower than the dimension from rail edge to rail edge (6X rail to rail is 80.078"). This will provide a 2" overhang on both sides (4X frame width should be 56.078").
The length of the frame should be 4" shorter than the desired length of the rails to provide a 2" overhang on both ends. The travel length will be 20" shorter than the rail length due to the space occupied by the gantry sides.
Two long pieces of 3/4" material will need to be placed on top of the frame with the 2" overhang on the sides and the end. These long strips of material will receive the rails and the chain mounts on the ends.

  • table dimensions and clearance for 4' x 8' greenbull (torsion box)?

For the 6'x12' greenBull table dimensions, the table width for the greenBull table must be 80.078" (6.67' or 203.398 cm) and must overhang the underside structure by 1-1/2" to make room for the rails and this overhang portion should be 3/4" thick. The length can be variable, but remember that the gantry takes up some of that space, so add about 34 inches to make room of the gantry and the connecting hardware for the roller chain on the four corners. We recommend if you want a full 12 feet of travel, the table must be at least 178 inches.

  • Do you sell plans (dimensions of parts, or even g-code) for me to build a greenbull?

The files and hardware option for our machines has been removed from the site due to the following reasons:
Difficulty for the end use of the files and the challenges (and time/money) on our side to assist in using these files.
The abuse of these files over the internet.
Ultimately may reduce the sales of machines keeping us in business.
Sadly, this is what has come out of our company attempting to be open; however, the machines sold on this site is still far lower in price than the competition for the quality that we provide as we have a great desire to engender the cottage industry to fulfill their need for low end manufacturing. My sincere apologies if this causes any inconvenience.

  • What are the dimensions of the VLXL cabinet? With space saving lauded as a feature, a critical bit of information.

The overall dimensions of the machine when mounted to a wall will be 119" from side to side and 25-1/2" inches out (from the wall to the longest part which is the bottom). Height of the machine (clearance) is about 76" maximum.

  • What is your largest format cnc router

The largest CNC machine we make at this time (12/04/2015) is the GreenBull 6'x12' model. This model has 2 options for Z-axis travel.

The short-z option has a total Z travel of 5.75 inches. From that you would subtract the length of the end mill used and the thickness of the spoil board to determine the maximum material thickness. (Example: If the end mill extends 1.25" from the collet and the spoil board is .75", then the material could be up to 5.75 - 1.25 - 0.75 = 3.75 inches in thickness). This is good for most sheet-type materials.

The long-z option, used mainly for large 3D carvings, requires a custom frame and allows for up to 36" of travel.

  • What is the cut accuracy of the large format routers using roller chain? .005"?

Accuracy is generally function of how well the machine will match the measurements of what is designed on a computer on a computer. However, if you are looking for the resolution of the machine, you can calculate the steps per inch using the formula:
    Steps / inch
= ((motor steps) * (micro steps)) / ((tooth pitch) * (number of teeth))

Depending on the micro steps and the drive sprocket (or drive pulley) you are using, you can achieve a wide range of resolutions.

With our machines, you can easily achieve .001 resolution, but accuracy will be best achieved with proper calibration.

  • Derek, got your email, can the greenlean large format perhaps handle the laser head?

The greenLean can potentially be adapted to hold laser equipment, but the laser tube would need to be in-line with the gantry and use mirrors for the laser energy to find its way to the nozzle.

It would be challenging to make room for the power supply on the gantry, but not impossible.

due to the weight of the z-axis, raster engraving would be pretty slow. If the machine was for cutting and vector graphics, the z-axis weight and inertia would not be an issue.

To experience the full features of laser engraving and cutting, it's best to stick to a sole laser machine like the vertical laser XL or the blackTooth. If you want both CNC cutting and laser to possibly mark the cuts made from the CNC machine, then the hybrid is a good solution.

  • I ordered the GreenBull 5' x 10' kit. The first video for assembly shows that I should have 5 large boards that attach to the table, but I don't have those boards. Is that something I need to build or were they not shipped?

We apologize for the confusion, however in the very first video that is regarding the assembly, is of the torsion box. We do not included that in any greenBull kit, as we use too sell it individually! However due to high consumption of materials and high cost(both in shipping and for the kit itself) we have removed it from our inventory and no longer sell it.

This video can be skipped, however if you plan on making a DIY torsion box, this video will be helpful in your build!

The torsion box is not needed, as the frame itself will be more than sufficient in keeping the machine from flexing or vibrating.
