Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • Which end mill would you advise to buy for cutting in full depth MDF and plywood of up to 20mm thickness? I am about to install a 2.2k spindel on my cnc.
  • What 1/2" collet and nut do I use for the Greenbull with the 2KW spindle? I want to order the Onsrud Spoilboard surfacing cutter.
  • What relay should be used with your USB BOB for controlling mist/flood/spindle on/off?

The relay that should be used with your USB BOB for controlling mist/flood/spindle on/off is one of the following options.

You could get and use the Planet-CNC.com Output Board found here, http://www.planet-cnc.com/index.php?page=shop

Or you could create your own setup using a resistor, solid state relay, transistor, and diode. You can watch this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=PJO_XoLL6lQ, to find out the correct way to accomplish this.

  • How small of end mills are commonly used for cutting balsa? What thickness of balsa can these smaller mills handle?

The size of end mills can vary to extremely tiny to very large cutting diameters. The smaller the cutting diameters, the shorter the available cutting length due to the possibility of breakage. You will first need to determine the thickness, or depth you will need to cut and find the available cut diameters for that depth.

To cut balsa wood, almost any standard 1 to 4 flute end mill will be fine that are intended to be used with wood. The end mill will state the materials that it can cut. Wood end mills will exhibit a flute geometry that is more stretched out to straight.

  • What kind of wire should I use between the invertor and the spindle?

The type of wire that should be used between the spindle and the VFD (Variable Frequency Driver also called the inverter) should be of stranded type and we use between 18 and 16 AWG.

The total current is divided among the three coil wires, therefor a wire gauge of 16 should be sufficient.

Currently we use 20AWG 4 conductor.

  • What kind of cooling system should we set up for the Blacktooth laser cutter laser tube? Can tap water be used? Is water temperature critical?

The blackTooth's 40 watt laser tube can be cooled with simple tap water. A bit of anti-freeze keeps the tap water clean and free of algae. The cooler the water, the better output you will get from the laser. A great source of information can be found here: http://www.buildyourtools.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3452

  • Please can you suggest which cutting machine is very suitable to cut vehicle tires of any thickness precisely and neat, thanks

Any of our machines can cut or mill tire material. What you need to consider is the machine size (will the tire fit in the machine with the proper modifications to the table) and the milling tool (end mill) used to mill or cut the tire material. The end mill will need to be specifically designed to mill the volcanized rubber material and the steel belts embedded within the tire.

Can we arrange for a specific modification of cutting the you're like you suggested... The aim is to cut the tires into specified shapes( circular, rectangular or squares) with neat edges. Also would ave the modifications made in other to be able to cut the width of the tires into two there by expising the metal strings in the tires
Please let me know if you get the idea and your take on the modification you think would suffice..
    Thanks.

  • Witch size of water tubes is used for the 2,2 Khz spindle and do I need som fitings for the Submersible Water Pump

The spindle water inlet and outlet fittings are 1/4 Inside Diameter and 3/8 Outside Diameter.

You can find the silicone tubes here:

  • I have been using a Blacktooth for some time, with Vectric2d and Mach3. I have always found that the laser burns a hole before moving off. I have always set material thickness at actual value. Should it be set very low? Also, of the many post processors supplied with 2d, which is best for Blacktooth?

If you have the laser firing using the Z direction, then you want to make sure that the thickness and clearance plane is extremely small. The time it takes for the software to think that the z axis has lowered to the depth set in the design is causing the laser to stay on in a single position for too long. Make sure that the depth is extremely small, like .0001" or the smallest amount allowed by the Vectric software. Also, make sure the clearance plane (the height that the z axis would raise to clear any protrusions like clamps and the such) is extremely low.

  • I am looking at buying the blacktooth-laser-cutter-engraver-40w. Can you give me some idea of the types and thickness of material this machine will cut and/or ingrave?

Considering that "materials being lased by may emit gasses that are harmful to humans (corrode human tissue and cause damage to respiratory organs). Always read the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the material to be lased. You can find these MSDS from manufacturer websites for the material you are considering for use in the laser system."
We successfully have worked on Thin sheets of Brasswood, glass, foam, plexi-glass. The thickest materials you will be able to successfully cut is 1/4".

  • Your combo kits don't specify whether they are standard NEMA motors. I need Nema 34 with a .375 shaft diameter. Which 3 axis kit work for these requirements?

We currently do not have any Nema motor's with a .375"/3/8" shaft diameter. The motors in stock 100 oz, 425 oz, with a 1/4" input shaft. Our 651 oz, with a 1/2" input shaft.

  • My Spindle has 4 pins but only the U, V and W terminals at used for the Spindle. What about the 4th pin?

The terminals of U, V and W from the VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) connects to the three coils (first three pins of the connector) of the spindle. The 4th pin in the spindle is typically not connected; however, bring a wire from the PE (Protective Earth or Earth Ground) from the VFD and connect it to one of the screws of the connector on the spindle. This will ground the body of the spindle.

  • what depth increment should I use for pocketing and profiling with the 1/2" end mill?

The pocketing depth per pass will depend on the hardness of the material, the router/spindle you are using and on the melting point of the material. Use the feedrate that you would normally use for the size and type of end mill. You will need to test the depth per pass, starting at the full depth of the pocket. The spindle should have no problem, but if you are using a router, then it may bog down, so easing up on the depth per pass is recommended. If the spindle/router has no problem at the depths you are using, then you need to evaluate the edge finish to determine if it is acceptable. If it is not acceptable, then ease up on the depth per pass. Keep doing these steps until you have the finish and precision you expect.

  • I'm looking to upgrade my X-Carve with one of your vfd spindles, can you reccomend which one to use to replace the dewalt 611 router?

If you would like to replace a router that outputs a relatively low HP (horse power) such as the Bosch PR20EVSK or Dewalt 611, both having about 1-1.25 HP, the 1.5kW spindle would have more than enough power and will also provide constant torque where the routers are unable to achieve. The 1.5kW spindle outputs 2 HP and is water cooled to keep the dust out of the air!
