Our spindles have a runout of less than .0001 in, which includes that collets that we sell. If you use a collet from another manufacturer, we cannot guarantee this TIR (Total Indicated Runout) dimension.

Hi, I'm interested in the 1.5 kW (kilowatt) Water Cooled Spindle with Inverter (VFD), I would like to know about the run out of this spindle?

First, you should check the configuration in your CNC control software and determine if the spindle control pin is correctly set. That pin will engage the relay.

The P and O position of the relay is set as Normally Open where the relay is open (open circuit, or no connection) at idle and when engaged will be closed (closed circuit, or connected). If you suspect that the relay is damaged, the recommended action would be to disconnect the spindle from the relay and operate the spindle/VFD manually using the Run and Stop buttons on the face of the VFD (until the breakout board can be replaced).

The spindle has started on my Machine while the machine was sitting idol, I'm not sure if the relay has failed on the breakout board. Is there a way to test this?

The Spindle can be controlled with either analog (Like with a DAC card) or PWM.

If your spindle speed is controlled by an analog signal, (for example, by a VFD with a 0 to 10 volt signal) and you’re using a DAC card like the m5i20 to output the control signal:

First you need to figure the scale of spindle speed to control signal. For this example the spindle top speed of 5000 RPM is equal to 10 volts.

10 volts / 5000 RPM = .002 volts / 1 RPM

If you need a spindle enable signal, link your output pin to motion.spindle-on. To link these pins to a parallel port pin put something like the following in your .hal file (net spindle-enable motion.spindle-on => parport.0.pin-14-out), making sure you pick the pin that is connected to your control device.

The VFD does come with a manual that details the wiring and connection specifications, terminal features and a list of the parameters. There is no information on how to connect it to Mach3. It does detail the specifications within the parameters and terminal features on the analog input that is used with Mach3 and other control programs.

I have a water cooled spindle I only need the VFD drive. Does the VFD come with instrutction on hooking the VFD to Mach3?

The only info on the spindle is 2.2KW 400HZ 220V. Made by Zhong Hua Jiang.

Was originally on a Delta C200 vfd. That is 220 single phase.

The greenBull kit (not the assembled) will need the table (the rails for the table is supplied), wires/cables for the stepper motors and stepper motor drivers, smaller gauge wires for digital wire connections (limit switches, drivers to control interface, etc), wires for the spindle connection to the VFD, tubing for water flow to and from the spindle, and a pump and reservoir (we are just about to introduce a small pump/reservoir/radiator/fan system for use with the spindle. The VFD/spindle, stepper motors/drivers and interface board are included.

Hi, can you elaborate on what you mean off axis? If the CNC router is milling correctly and then suddenly in a location that you would not expect, then you are exceeding the torque of the stepper motors and stalling. If the cnc router stalls, then the cnc router will continue but the software controlling the cnc router will not have the correct position of the cnc router.

If this is the case, then you need to either reduce the acceleration, reduce the velocity, or both. Does the problem occur during the milling process or during the jogging (rapids)?

What size water source is needed and how long can it be used before it is too warm? Do you have a pressure vs. flow curve for the spindle so I can properly size the water pump?

I used a small pond pump inside a 5 gallon bucket. I put a little bit of windshield washer fluid in with it to keep anything from growing in it. It's worked great. I've had 1 hour run times with no noticeable increase in spindle temp.

I am interested in buying the 2.2 kW spindle. Does it run much quieter than a 2 hp Porter Cable router? You also mention a pump with a bucket of water. How long until the water is too warm to cool the spindle?

The book (scratch build) will be able to cut at very high rates of speed, but the speed is partly determined by the mechanical setup. Cutting wood is generally recommended between 60-200 ipm depending on the end mill and spindle being used. The larger the end mill (with increased chip load capacity) the faster the feedrate.

If you are using a standard allthread, you will not be able to have these high feedrates. You will need to purcahse high lead leadscrews: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/mechanical-leadscrews-leadnuts-!5-5-starts-10-tpi

The stepping motors need to turn 13 times to travel one inch using standard allthread (1/2-13 TPI - threads per inch). The higher lead leadscrews shown in the link provided will move one inch with only two turns allowing the machine to move many times faster.

These speeds are especially important if you are cutting materials that have low melting points like aluminum and thermoplastics like acrylic, Plexiglas, etc. These materials require high feedrates and smaller depth per passes.

When engraving with the vertical laser, use unilateral movement for the y-swing. Unilateral engraving will allow the firing on the laser in one direction.
