2. Increase the capacity or the inverter if it is too small. Replace with an inverter that has a larger capacity
3. Extend the ramp-up time
4. Decrease the torque and increase the set value.
5. Check if the motor is blocked and if there is a sudden change in load.
6. Check if there is a sudden chance in the power supply voltage.
7. Extend ramp down time
9. DC breaking is too high. Decrease DC breaking
10. Replace the inverter.
11. Check to see if there is a short circuit with the connection wire of the motor.
12. Extend the ramp-down time or add a breaking resistor.
13. Check the mains supply voltage and insure there isn't ant sudden change in voltage.
14. Send the inverter for repair.
15. Check whether the input voltage is normal
16. check whether there is a sudden change in load.
17. Check whether there is any phase missing.

19. Check the ambient temperature in the space that the inverter is placed.
20. Check for adequate ventilation for the inverter where it is placed.
21. Check for jamming or any sudden change with respect to mechanical load.
22. Set the V/F curve correctly.
23. The motor is too small.
24. The motor is hot and the insulation of the motor degraded.
25. Check if the voltage has a large variance.
26. Check if there is a phase missing.
27. Contact the supplier

  • Why does my VFD show the error er.04?

The Er.04 (if you are using the YL VFD), generally refers to the ramping up and ramping down of the spindle, but it can be a result of a short circuit between the VFD and the spindle. You can increase the time the spindle accelerates (ramps up to the set rpm/frequency).

  • How can we check our 1.5kw spindle. we get a dL error after we start to cut. it spins up fine. We checked IGBTs in the VFD and they're not shorted. We suspect intermittent short INSIDE the spindle. What do you think?

dL usually stand for a short that is occurring within the spindle or spindle wiring. I would recheck the wiring going from the VFD to the spindle, as well as the terminal on the spindle where there should've been some soldering required. We usually tend to either heat shrink or use electrical tape to cover the terminals so no contact or arching can be present.

Also depending on the VFD you have please adjust the setting pd008, to the voltage that is required (110V/220V).

If the issue proceeds please contact use at customerservice@buildyourcnc.com, for further assistance or replacement.

  • My VFD has started to dL error at startup, what could be the issue?

The DL error usually means that there is a short in the wiring going from the VFD to the Spindle. First remove the spindle connection and run the VFD. If "DL" does not appear then this means the short is on the spindle itself. Remember to double check your wiring and to use heat shrink on the soldering points to prevent any shorts or arcing between the points.

  • Can you control the VFD from mach3?

Yes, you can control the VFD using the a relay.  You will need to connect the relay output (NO) to the forward terminal of the VFD and the gnd terminal.  You will need to look at the diagram for your VFD to determine which gnd to use in the set of terminals that is associated with the forward terminal.  The forward terminal may be called something else, but the manual will tell you (something like X1, or D1, etc.)

You will also need to change a parameter in the VFD to use the external terminals as opposed to the control from the control panel.

  • [575] Can it make the spidle control PWM to a VFD witch 5 V input

In theory, utilizing a 5V reference in the 10V terminal of the Mach3 USB controller should yield functional results, although I haven't personally tested this configuration. If you possess an oscilloscope, you can monitor the PWM signal to verify whether the AVI output achieves a peak 5V PWM square wave.

  • I had to wipe my computer due to virus and now can not download the USB software again. I get a "unhandled exception" error message. Any suggestions?

An unhandled exception generally means that, in the program code, the program is not checking against every possible exception that could occur. Most likely, this exception is caused by some limit that is being exceeded (or the other way around). I would remove any files that could be associated with the program, like setting files, or even register configurations associated with that software. Also, make sure that you completely update your version of windows.

Check to make sure all of the drivers are current for your graphics hardware. Make sure that your graphics hardware works in other programs as well.

If you upgraded the Windows version, check to make sure your graphics hardware is compatible with the new version of Windows. Unhandled exception issue may be associated with graphics hardware and compatibility.

    Customer Response:
I've given up on the wiped laptop and loaded the program on a different computer using windows 8. At first it won't operate my CNC until I read on Planet-CNC forum about loading the drivers on windows 8. All working now. Will run through the calibrations again today. Thanks

  • How to I get the VFD to display rotation speed in RPM?

To calculate RPM use this formula, in which you will have to find RPM's when you have Hz.
    1 RPM = 0.01666666667 Hz
    Formula: 0.01666666667 × RPM = Hz
On our VFD if you select the >> button about 3-4 times, it will change from Hz, A, or ROTT.
When the LED's are lit on Power, FOR, and ROTT, you should be able to see the RPM the spindle is running at, our maximum setting for these spindles is 400Hz / 24000 RPM.

  • How can I control my VFD using Mach4 cnc control software?

The best way to determine how to control your VFD using Mach4 is to read the MAch4 manual found here:
    http://www.machsupport.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Mach4%20Installation%20Manual.pdf

You will find that there a a few ways to control the spindle/VFD on your CNC machine or CNC Router.
    - The first and easiest is to have your VFD's power controlled by a relay. This will allow your spindle to have on/off control through Mach4 with an output pin.
    - The second is to have a controller output a DAC voltage between 0-10 volts to control speed on the VFD/Spindle. There is a termial on the VFD to receive this signal line. The controller will also have an output that outputs a high or low and that can control the on/off on the VFD.
    - The third, and more difficult of the three methods is to use a USB to Serial adapter (USB to USART or RS-485). The Computer plugs into the adapter using a USB cable and the adapter uses the RX/TX to connect to the VFD's terminals for communication. This will provide a great amount of control. Mach4 will need a plug-in to make this option work.

    List of recommended actions:
If error shows at ramp up or at constant speed:
    1. Check for a short circuit or partial short circuit and the insulation of the output wire is sufficient.
    18. Check the fan in the inverter. Is it spinning? Is it blocked? Does it have any foreign matter stuck on the fins of the fan? If so, clear the fan.

  • [575] After reset of E stop, I get error message "RnR Motion Card Not Found". Have you any advice?

If you are getting the message RNR Motion Card Not Found, the controller is shorting. Check the wiring to make sure you have all of the correct wires in the correct terminals. Check the voltages of all the terminals to make sure everything shows the correct polarity and voltages.

    Additional Information:
Mine did the same thing. Try pushing the USB cable all the way into the port and slightly up. My usb port on the card is slightly oversized and breaking the connection. Ordering some USB type B connectors off of amazon, gonna try and re-solder a new port on the card before replacing the card.

  • Where can I find information on controlling my VFD through Mach4?
