  • I there a tutorial on hooking up a Z axis zero touch plate to the usb controller?

    To use a touch plate on any controller, all you need is a conductive flat material with a known thickness and some wire and alligator clips. Solder a wire to the touch plate and connect the other end of the wire to the free input terminal of the controller. Connect a wire with an alligator clip to the ground of the controller (on the Mach3 USB controller, this ground is the DCM terminal, or the digital gnd on the 24VDC power supply). Connect the alligator clip to the end mill.

    You can either use a script to serve as the probe, or you can use the ref all home button and setup the touch plate as a home switch.

    We could not guarantee, nor say, whether or not your current software would be able to utilize the USB breakout board. Our USB breakout board is designed for use with Planet CNC software found here, http://www.planet-cnc.com/index.php?page=software

    As far as we know, this is the only CNC Controller software that operates on a USB breakout controller.

  • Must I have licence to run planetpc software, is there any other software that will run the usb controller

    The Planet CNC Software will require purchase after the trial version is completed, and will be purchased through their website. Currently that is the only software available for the USB Controller.

  • Can you shortcut the usb controller that comes with the blacktooth laser to hardware reset it?

    The USB controller does not have a reset button installed on it.

    You have some alternate options however:
    - You can remove the USB connector and re-insert it.
    - Set the USB to use external 5v by removing the jumper near the USB connector, use a 5v wall adapter and install a switch along the 5v DC power line to turn it off then on. You can use a momentary push button switch to do this.

    Yes, you can connect a THC, Torch Height Controller, with the Mach3 USB controller. The THC uses the inputs to determine if the z axis needs to move up or down according to the arc of the plasma torch. The THC connects its outputs to the inputs of the controller so the controller will be informed of the states of the plasma torch.

  • 4 axis kit can I use 2 motors for the gantry with one controller card? or I buy the 3 axis kit instead?

    Yes, you can use the 4 axis kit and use two of the motors on the gantry. You will need to wire the gantry axis motors to the same step and direction signals on the controller interface. For example, if the gantry axis is the X axis, then on the controller step and direction terminals (CP and CW) is wired to both of the stepper motor drivers for the X axis.

Secondly, placing any kind of shield over the antenna of a cell phone will in most cases cause it to increase its RF output as it attempts to compensate for signal loss in the shield and maintain a quality phone call. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration published an advisory on cell phones several years ago that said if you are concerned about risks of using a cell phone, then simply use it less.   • Is there a wiring diagram for hooking up your hex inverter between your USB breakout board and the controller?

    The use of the hex inverter in the application to invert a direction signal to have a motor run in the reverse directions is relatively simple.

    First, go to this link and look at the chip diagram:

    Connect 5V from the USB interface tothe VCC pin. The pin on the keyboard jog header can be used. Connect the GND pin from the USB interface to the GND pin on the hex inverter. Connect the CW terminal from the USB interface to the 1A pin on the hex inverter. Connect the 1Y pin from the hex inverter to the driver.

    The AVR advanced kit should have all of the parts to complete the tutorials. You shouldn't need the beginners kit unless you need an extra microcontroller.

    When you say AVR advanced kit, did you mean the upgrade?

    Is not designed to work under Mach4. The Mach3 USB uses a plug-in in Mach3 to function as an interpreter, sending pulses and signals to electronics from commands sent to the board from Mach3. This plugin would need to be updated to be able to work under Mach4 but the board manufacturer would need to do this update. So far, there is no plug-in that will work for Mach4 and this board.

    And a bucket to hold the water.

    You may also consider CPU cooling systems which can actually be fastened to the back of the gantry. We do this for the Fabricator Pro machine. The CPU cooling I would recommend is a small pump and cylinder with a heat sink, or a small radiator.

  • Can I run two stepper motors off the same axis output on the USB controller?

    Yes, you can use 2 motors in the same axis output, however you will still need a driver for that motor! Also depending on the orientation on which you mount the motor you might have to invert the direction of the motor, and that will be simple by swapping the A+,A-, to the B+,B- locations and vice versa, from the driver to the motor wiring.

    Also you can run a slave motor using another axis on the board, and setting it up in the Planet-CNC settings.

    Planet-CNC/File/Settings/Axes, here you will enter 3 in the Number of Axes location, and then change the Function of the Axis 4 to Slave 1. There you will have the 4th axis or A-axis be a slave for the x-axis.
    Slave 1 - X-Axis
    Slave 2 - Y-Axis
    Slave 3 - A-Axis
    Slave 4 - B-Axis
    Etc...

    To implement a electronics combo to run you Proxxon MF70, you will need to find the correct drive components (ACME screw, linear rail, etc) and look into any specific modifications needed to your rig.
    I would recommend the USB 3 Axis Large Motors Electronics w/ USB Interface Board.
    Since the machine is metal, our larger motors would be highly recommended.

    We have not done this conversion, through research is recommended.

  • I have a "Based on planet-cnc's diy cnc usb controller", I activated the output signal (mist, coolant or spindle) in the planetcnc software but at the output there is no voltage, what can I do to turn on this elements?

    On the Planet-CNC board, the Mist, Spindle and Coolant outputs will require a relay to switch on those devices. Test one of those terminals with a multi-meter (Mist, Coolant, or Spindle). Each of these terminals have a GND next to the terminal for the device.

    Test the voltage across the GND to the terminal with the arrow that you want to test. Go to the software and click on the device you want to test (mist, coolant or spindle) and note the voltage. If no voltage is output then check under the board to where the terminals are soldered. Re-test the terminals across the solder joints rather than the terminal block wire inputs. If you get a voltage, then there is a problem with the terminal block. If you don't get a voltage, then the board is not functioning properly.

    I activated the output signal.. I did the tests indicated and I did not get voltage. I heated the welds of the three outputs and now works coolant but no mist or spindle, what should I do?

    There are probably cold joints on the board at the chip or the resistors on the traces for those terminals. You can send the board back to us and we will repair and test the board.

    If you want to troubleshoot this yourself, take a very close look at the traces from the terminal and follow them to the tiny resistors, then to the legs of the chip. If you see any bad or bridged solder joints, then those will need to be re-touched. It will take a somewhat experienced soldering individual to accomplish this task and will require flux to make sure the solder joints are fully joined.

  • I am designing an altitude chamber to test the performance of my product at different altitude level up to 20k feet of height. My chamber dimensions are 1m x 1m x 1m. Can you propose a solution? E.g. vacuum pump model, pump controller, valve, etc.

    Are you trying to maintain sea level atmospheric pressure within this chamber, or are you just wanting to sense the pressure within the chamber at that altitude to determine how your product performs?

    You can use our pressure sensor to dial-in the narrow range of vacuum that you need for your project. Build an air-tight enclosure/container that will contain the project components with some/one tube fittings at the exterior of the enclosure. The fitting(s) are needed to provide the vacuum within the container.

    The pressure sensor will need to also sense the pressure within the container, so, either a fitting is needed on the container, or in-line with the vacuum hose will need to be provided. You will also need a check valve in-line with the vacuum line between the pump and the container (before the pressure sensor fitting) so there will be no air escaping through the pump when the pump is not running.

    I would not recommend slaving an axis using the method of taking an additional axis from the USB interface. Instead, wire both drivers to a single axis on the USB interface. This will insure perfect signal output to both drivers. If you requre the motors to spin in opposite directions, simply wire one of the motors to the driver reversing the coil A and B connections, or use a hex inverter (https://www.buildyourcnc.com/tutorials/Tutorial-Two-Motors-Spinning-Oppositely-On-Single-Axis).
