Question #: 2352

Question: I am looking for the dimensions for drilling from the plans in the book

Current Solution

Dealing with the dimensions of our scratch build kit, you can find the design and dimensions here (https://www.buildyourcnc.com/Documents/CNC%20Kit%201-1.pdf).
You can go to the main CNC book page here (https://www.buildyourcnc.com/Book.aspx).

Other Possible Solutions to this Question

  • The plans available for download for the "whiteAnt 3D Plastic Printer" do not have dimensions. Are the dimensions shown in the book? Is there a DWG file available?

The plans for the whiteAnt 3D Printer will have the dimesions, and the dimensions will be on the individual pieces(cut to spec). The machine is relatively small, so maybe you expected the size(dimensions) to be larger.

  • Do you have the data sheets for the motors so that I can use the dimensions in my model?

You can find the datasheets to our motors be going to the the stepping motor category page https://www.buildyourcnc.com/category/nema and selecting the motor. This will bring you to the product page for the motor and all of the motor information will be found there.

  • What are the table dimensions for the greenBull so I can build it.

Actual table dimension: 4'x8' is 56.078"x 121.50" (the overhang in the illustrations should be 3/4" thick)
To determine the frame dimensions, first consider using the frame height shown of almost 3' (2.86'). The width of the frame should be 4" narrower than the dimension from rail edge to rail edge (6X rail to rail is 80.078"). This will provide a 2" overhang on both sides (4X frame width should be 56.078").
The length of the frame should be 4" shorter than the desired length of the rails to provide a 2" overhang on both ends. The travel length will be 20" shorter than the rail length due to the space occupied by the gantry sides.
Two long pieces of 3/4" material will need to be placed on top of the frame with the 2" overhang on the sides and the end. These long strips of material will receive the rails and the chain mounts on the ends.

  • CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME HELP OR POINT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO INCORPORATE MK 7 EXTRUDER WITH BOOK PLANS FOR 3D PRINTER?

Mounting the extruder to the whiteAnt can be done a couple of ways. One is to take the 4 mounting holes located at the lower portion of the z-axis rail support and use long screws protruding out. Take a thinner material and drill the four holes matching the locations of the 4 screws and screw on nuts to hold it in place. The other option would be to use the metal bracket and fasten to the edge of the rail support.

  • Just getting started with building the "Book Machine". I'm looking for feedback from users. Lessons learned, performance etc.

The greenBull 4x8 is designed specifically for heavy usage with a larger gantry and 3 large NEMA 34 651oz-in motors on each axis. You can expect superior performance from the greenBull since it is specifically designed for every day production of 4x8 sheets of material.

    Additional Information:

    Additional Information:
The greenBull response was not an answer to my question. I'd still like to hear from users. There must be some suggestions comments from those that have built the machine?

    Additional Information:
Strange that you got the response matching the greenBull answer. That was probably our automated "closest match". I would re-state the question and select the "no, the answer is not related" and let it hang out on the customer service page for a while to see if you get any bites.

  • I have the book which has the plans. Are there cad files?

There is currently no CAD files available with any CNC machines that we currently have on the market.

However for our BYCNC book, we have a pdf file with all the parts you will need to fabricate here: (https://buildyourcnc.com/Documents/CNC%20Kit%201-1.pdf), however some modifications and updates have been made, which you can purchase the new files and DVD here: (https://buildyourcnc.com/cnckitintro.aspx).

  • [518] What is the keyway size? I'm looking for 1/8" width

The keyway size for the 3/4" end of this coupling is .1745 inches or 4.4mm. On the 1/2" end of the coupling, the keyway size is .1085 inches, or 2.75mm.

  • I am looking for a schematic to wire a C10 BoB to a KL430 driver.

    CP+ to COM
    CP- to STEP
CP+ to CW+ (small jumper wire)
    CW- to DIR

    Additional Information:
If the driver does not have CP or CW labels, the CP is Step and the CW is Direction or DIR. If you connect the 5v to CP+ (or Step+) and CW+ (or DIR+) and the pin to CP- (or Step-) and another pin to CW- (or DIR-), then in software, the configuration for the step on that axis must be active low. Otherwise, if you connect the GND to CP- (or Step-) and CW- (or DIR-) and the pin to CP+ (or Step+) and another pin to CW+ (or DIR+), then in software, the configuration for the step on that axis must be active high.

    Additional Information:
If you have a driver that is labeled pul, dir and ena: Pul+ is the Step+ and Pul- is the Step-. Pul is short for pulse. A pulse will create a step. Don't worry about the enable terminals.

On the x-axis, pin #2 can go to pul- and pin #3 can go to dir-. The 5v will go to pul+ and dir+. The configuration for each axis for step will be active low and toggle active low for the dir on each axis to make it go in the direction desired.

  • Do you offer custom sized machines? I am looking for a 5'x5' version.

Most of our CNC machines have the ability to be customized by length. The greenBull 5X for instance comes standard at 5' x 10' but it is really only the gantry width that is fixed. The length can be easily altered. If you are interested in receiving a custom quote, you can email sales@buildyourcnc.com.
