  • How thick can the material to be engraved will fit inside the BlackTooth machine

    The thickness of material that can be cut or engraved is addressed in other CSL answers.

    The thickness of material that will physically fit into the machine is limited by the distance from the bottom of the cabinet to the laser nozzle, which needs to be at a distance from the workpiece determined by the focal length of the lenses used. (2 inches is standard in our machine.) The standard cabinet of our blackTooth has a cut out section about 25 inches wide designed to allow a sliding tray to be used to easily change workpieces. You could allow for material of any reasonable thickness by adjusting the thickness of this tray so that the surface of your workpiece is the proper distance from the nozzle. You could also modify the cabinet as needed to accommodate special sized work.

  • WHAT MATERIALS CAN THE GREENBULL MACHINE CUT? LASER ETCH?

    The Greenbull machine can cut a very wide variety of materials ranging from foam to aluminum. We recommend the use of our 2.2kW spindle to allow the greatest flexibility. Aside from that, the most important thing is to use an appropriate end mill for the material you are cutting and to use appropriate speeds and feed rates.

    Our 40W laser can cut up to about 1/4" materials ranging from wood and acrylic down through lighter materials such as leather, fabric, foam, etc. Speed and final cut are greatly enhanced by an air assist upgrade. We also offer an 80W laser which has approximately twice the capabilities of the 40W.

  • Should the machine material (wood like) be painted before assembly?

    Our machines structures is made from MDO, which is used in the construction industry. Specifically in cement forming, which allows the material to be treated and coated for the specific requirements in the field.
    We do recommend painting the structure (everything structure wise besides aluminum) with oil based paints, if you have the machine in a very humid location or location with constant rain. If you do not have the machine in a climate control environment.
    Painting the machine will not give it a longer run time or any specific advantages to the over structure or material. Painting it would be more of a personal choice, in making it specifically orientated to your shop or personality.

  • Can a CO2 CNC laser machine be used for welding of thermoplastic materials?

    That is a good question. We have not tried to weld thermoplastics using our CO2 Lasers. It is possible since the laser outputs a heat source and at the right intensity and speed, the thermoplastic can be heated and melted rather than instantaneously vaporized and off gassed. I have done research to see if CO2 laser can weld thermoplastics with positive results.

    Our CO2 lasers are typical of other laser cutters on the market, so if their literature, or examples you have found, successfully weld thermoplastics, then ours will probably be able to as well.

    In some cutting test with different speeds and intensities, the kerf has welded back together; however, this was caused by an unintentional process rather than an intentional one.

    Unfortunately we no longer include or sell our CNC plans for none of our machines. We will be here to assist you if any parts wear over time, and will be able to replace the parts if needed.

    There are almost no limits to the kind of materials you can machine. Anything from wood or plastic to exotic materials like stainless steel can be cut as long as the part can be safely and firmly held and the proper cutting tool and cutting speed are used

  • I am looking at buying the blacktooth-laser-cutter-engraver-40w. Can you give me some idea of the types and thickness of material this machine will cut and/or ingrave?

    Considering that "materials being lased by may emit gasses that are harmful to humans (corrode human tissue and cause damage to respiratory organs). Always read the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the material to be lased. You can find these MSDS from manufacturer websites for the material you are considering for use in the laser system."
    We successfully have worked on Thin sheets of Brasswood, glass, foam, plexi-glass. The thickest materials you will be able to successfully cut is 1/4".

    The greenBull machine has a sturdier gantry than the blackFoot, so you can be more aggressive with the cutting feedrate (cutting speed). The blackFoot is also a good machine, but it all comes down to the speed at which you want to produce your arcade cabinets.

    I would highly recommend getting the spindle for cutting strength and easier cleanup, if you have 240v available.

    The greenBull machine has a sturdier gantry than the blackFoot, so you can be more agressive with the cutting feedrate (cutting speed). The blackFoot is also a good machine, but it all comes down to the speed at which you want to produce your arcade cabinets.

    I would highly recommend getting the spindle for cutting strength and easier cleanup, if you have 240v available.

    The general bill of materials for the blackTooth 24"x20" laser system is as follows:

    - The structural components (MDO and Plastic parts)
    - The hardware to assemble all of the structural and mechanical parts
    - Mechanical parts like v-groove bearings, bearings for shafts, shafts, pulleys, belts, etc.
    - All of the motion electronics like motors, drivers, and laser controller
    - Wire to connect all of the electronics
    - All of the laser components including the laser tube, mirrors, mirror mounts, nozzle and lens
    - Pneumatic components including the air pump and tubing
    - Hydraulic components to cool the laser tube including a water pump and tubing

    The length of time it will take to build a CNC machine kit is not an easy answer. There may be a wide array of circumstances that limit a persons abilities to build the cnc machine kit in an efficient timeframe; however, if you have moderate dexterity and moderately mechanically inclined, you should have no problem building one of our machines within one weekend if the project has very little downtime.
