  • I just bought a 3040 800 watt cnc. What electronics do i need to buy to run it?

If you do not have electronics for your CNC, you will need stepper motors (or servos) that will fit your torque requirements, drivers for the motors, a power supply, applicable wires, and an interface board for computer communication. We sell electronic combo kits here https://buildyourcnc.com/electronicscombo.aspx

  • I bought a 2.2 Kw spindle and YL620 A-2 from you and am getting an ER 4 message. How do I fix it?

If the VFD is presenting an ER 4 error, the VFD is most likely damaged. The VFD will either need to be serviced or you will need to purchase another VFD. The latter is probably the less expensive option, unfortunately.

  • I need a resource, we bought 2 redfly systems and mach 4, We put one motor on for the x axis but cannot get it move. Can you direct us to some tutorial?

Could you specify which breakout board you have? If you have a parallel port version, be sure that you have purchased the "legacy" parallel port version from Mach4. If this proves not to be the problem, please feel free to email us directly at techsuport@buildyourcnc.com or call 281-815-7701 for troubleshooting instructions.

  • WHAT DOES THE GREENBULL KIT INCLUDE AND DO I NEED TO INCLUDE?

The greenBull 4X comes with all of the components and electronics to assemble the gantry of the machine. You will need to build the table. We provide the rails and roller chain for the X-axis (along the length of the table for full 8 feet of travel). You will need to provide some wire to connect the electronics and a computer to run the machine. You will also need to purchase the software that you will need to run the machine that matches how you will apply the machine. We suggest the mach3 control program. The CAM program is up to you as there are many options out there.

  • I JUST BOUGHT THE 3 AXIS W/HEAVY GANTRY, WILL MACH 4 RUN WELL WITH THIS, AND HOW LARGE CAN GO CUT AREA

Yes Mach3 is a great program. Our 3 axis is 6'X12'X3'using all BYCNC components (incl. redsprout)

  • I bought Nema 24 motors and driver package with usb board. What do i need to have more speed? Cant even jog past 25 ipm without the motor stalling (not having enough torgue)

We recommend checking the dip switch settings on your drivers, having the correct microstepping/amp settings along with the steps/unit will help the motors run as effective as possible.
This is a default parameter that we use while we test our motors:
Driver dip switch settings will be at a 1/16 microstepping and 2.7amp (11001100) for x/y-axis and the z-axis will be at 1/4 microstepping and 2.7amp (10101100).

In planet-cnc with increasing the motor speed, you will have to modify the settings in planet-cnc (File/settings/setup) you will modify the initial speed, maximum speed, and the acceleration.
    X/Y-axis step/unit: 1422.22 initial speed:500 maximum speed:750 acceleration:25
    Z-axis step/unit: 1600 initial speed:100 maximum speed:300 acceleration:25
The initial speed and maximum speed will have to be roughly tested and adjusted per application.
Make sure to adjust the JOG slide bard underneath the axis controls on screen to about 750, to compensate for your x/y-axis adjustments. If left alone the speed will max out at the default setting.

Here is a video tutorial to calculate the steps required depending on your mechanical linear motion components. (

  • hi. i need a 3/8 screw of 78 inches how much does it cost and do you have it?

Our 3/8" lead screws are available at a maximum length of 72". A screw at that diameter is is not the best solution at long lengths for machines that will spin that axis quickly since there will be screw whipping.

  • Can you tell me what gauge wire is needed for limits switches and the spindle?

The hookup wires you will need is 22 to 24 AWG stranded and shielded for the wiring of the limit switches and E_Stop. Our kit customers select various places for these switches, so we don't supply the wiring. If you don't use shielded cable, you will need to change the debounce setting in Mach3 (if that is the control program you are using).

We typically use 14 AWG stranded wire for the VFD to Spindle (U, V, W) connections.
