Question: i would like to turn on my water pump with out3 or 4 when i turn on the spindle. I have Mach3 working with the spindle on out1and 2. I have a relay wiredbut cant get out3 to flip.

    This will depend on the VFD you have to identify the correct terminal. The terminal on the VFD will be labeled AI1 typically (Analog Input #1). You will also need to make sure to complete the PWM circuit using the GND terminal on the VFD.

  • I would like to know what the lowest rpm that can be acheived with the 2.2kw spindle and inverter and still have enough torque to drill

    According to the supplier of the 2.2 kW spindle, the safest operating speed for the spindle is 6000 RPM. The supplier also stated that theoretically, the spindle can operate from 0 to 24,000 RPM. I am continuing a dialog with the supplier to delve deeper into understanding the configurations and ramifications of such configurations for operations outside of the safe boundaries into the "theoretical" ranges.

  • Good morning, I would like to know if the strength of the 2.2kw spindle is weaker when using the 110V version of the VFD. Does it have the same power as the 220V version VFD?

    The 2.2kW spindle will have the same amount of torque and strength using either the 110V or the 220V inverter. Nothing will significantly change in either application since the 110V inverter has a small step up transformer which will increase the voltage from 110V to 220V to run the spindle efficiently.

    I'd like confirmation on this -- isn't there a cost in efficiency to having the 110v step up to 220v?

  • I have a water cooled spindle I only need the VFD drive. Does the VFD come with instrutction on hooking the VFD to Mach3?

    The VFD does come with a manual that details the wiring and connection specifications, terminal features and a list of the parameters. There is no information on how to connect it to Mach3. It does detail the specifications within the parameters and terminal features on the analog input that is used with Mach3 and other control programs.

  • Just for general knowledge. If a spindle gets i.e. 240VAC, and the drivers 36-50VDC for power, why do you need 5VDC for the Breakout Board (BlueBrew)? Is it only for the relay? I think I've seen other BoB's working without power supply, or am I wrong?

    Our breakout board, does require 5v to operate the correct voltages coming in from the drivers and also coming in from your computer, now the 5V will be supplied by the USB connection, so no external power supply is needed, for either our USB/Parallel breakout board.

  • If I understand correctly, the greenBull kit comes with a spindle and laser. What else do I need to have a working machine. Obviously a table, do I also need the computer, software, wires, pump and plumbing, electronics, VFD, steppers and controllers?

    The greenBull kit (not the assembled) will need the table (the rails for the table is supplied), wires/cables for the stepper motors and stepper motor drivers, smaller gauge wires for digital wire connections (limit switches, drivers to control interface, etc), wires for the spindle connection to the VFD, tubing for water flow to and from the spindle, and a pump and reservoir (we are just about to introduce a small pump/reservoir/radiator/fan system for use with the spindle. The VFD/spindle, stepper motors/drivers and interface board are included.

  • For our cnc we're searching for an air cooled spindle with 2.2 kw. On this page we've only found water cooled ones. Is it possible to get an air cooled spindle from you or do you have special reasons for don't selling them?

    We like the water cooled spindles since they don't blow the chips around the shop. The air cooled spindles have a force of air that partly makes the vacuum and dust shoe non effective, unless we design a diverter, which limits the cooling effect for the spindle.

  • I am making my own CNC setup using all the electronics from your website and I have many questions. Please advise how to have my computer recognize the USB connection from my breakout board also I would like to use a water cooled spindle but I need to know the parts required for a 4x10 bed area used for woods and plastics

    You will need PlanetCNC software for the USB breakout board and when plugging in the USB the computer should automatically recognize the board, however you can go into device manager to see if the USB terminal is working correctly.
    The parallel breakout board; the USB is not a connection terminal rather than a power source, and the parallel port will be the communication terminal.
    The items you will need for a water cooled spindle would be: water pump, silicon tubing(length desired by customer), a extension cord(from a hardware store(orange))(1 same gauge wire/length as extension cord).

  • I am interested in buying the 2.2 kW spindle. Does it run much quieter than a 2 hp Porter Cable router? You also mention a pump with a bucket of water. How long until the water is too warm to cool the spindle?

    The 2.2kW Spindle has many advantages over a standard router such as the Porter Cable. The most obvious benefit to the user is the significant reduction of both dust and noise.

    I used a small pond pump inside a 5 gallon bucket. I put a little bit of windshield washer fluid in with it to keep anything from growing in it. It's worked great. I've had 1 hour run times with no noticeable increase in spindle temp.

  • Can I wire in a 5vdc relay board to the spindle relay for my router. Gnd would be negative and the arrow would be positive right?

    Yes, a 5v relay board can be connected to a spindle. Relays generally have terminals labeled S, O and P and you will want to pass one of your main wires "through" the P and S terminals or the P and O terminals depending if you want normally closed or normally open function.

    I have the USB board. I was thinking of wiring a 5v relay board to the breakout board labeled (spindle) using the GND and (arrow) which i think is 5vdc. I will need this relay board to operate my router. Thanks

    Yes, those terminals are to control the relay (engage the relay). On the switch part of the relay, the router main poser wire (say, the live, black, wire) would pass through this switch portion of the relay.

    Since the pump will use a standard 12v power supply, you will have two wires. One of those wires will be connected from the power supply to the pump. The other wire will be connected to the power supply and the pump, but cut that wire and connect one side of it in the P terminal and the other end in the S or the O terminal depending on if you need the connection as NO (Normally Open) or NC (Normally Closed).
