Question #: 14871

Question: [Mach3 USB Interface Board] Everything works in mill, but if I wanna use turn software then there is problems to recognize rnrmotion card.

Current Solution

Have you tried comparing all of the parameters for the motor outputs? For instance, go into the motor outputs screen in the mill profile, take note of all the parameters. Then open the turn profile, go into the motor outputs and change the parameters from the notes you had in the mill profile.

If that works, do the same for the other setting screens.

  • I have a "Based on planet-cnc's diy cnc usb controller", I activated the output signal (mist, coolant or spindle) in the planetcnc software but at the output there is no voltage, what can I do to turn on this elements?

On the Planet-CNC board, the Mist, Spindle and Coolant outputs will require a relay to switch on those devices. Test one of those terminals with a multi-meter (Mist, Coolant, or Spindle). Each of these terminals have a GND next to the terminal for the device.

Test the voltage across the GND to the terminal with the arrow that you want to test. Go to the software and click on the device you want to test (mist, coolant or spindle) and note the voltage. If no voltage is output then check under the board to where the terminals are soldered. Re-test the terminals across the solder joints rather than the terminal block wire inputs. If you get a voltage, then there is a problem with the terminal block. If you don't get a voltage, then the board is not functioning properly.

    Additional Information:
I activated the output signal.. I did the tests indicated and I did not get voltage. I heated the welds of the three outputs and now works coolant but no mist or spindle, what should I do?

    Additional Information:
There are probably cold joints on the board at the chip or the resistors on the traces for those terminals. You can send the board back to us and we will repair and test the board.

    Additional Information:
If you want to troubleshoot this yourself, take a very close look at the traces from the terminal and follow them to the tiny resistors, then to the legs of the chip. If you see any bad or bridged solder joints, then those will need to be re-touched. It will take a somewhat experienced soldering individual to accomplish this task and will require flux to make sure the solder joints are fully joined.

  • I have the older discontinued USB breakout board. The y-axis no longer works and have traced it to the breakout board. Is there a replacement board that can use the same Planet CNC software running on Windows 10?

No, we have gotten away from the planet-cnc boards as they have decided to not support our board with their software. You can use the Mach3 USB board as an alternative. You will be better off with Mach3 as a control software as this is widely used and supported.

  • I'm having trouble getting Mach3 to recognize my limit switches. I've eliminated everything back to the breakout board. I can directly connect Input 10 to GND on the breakout board while Mach3 is in autorecognize mode and Mach3 doesn't acknowledge anything.

Have you tried a different input pin?

    Customer response:
    I've tried all pins: 10, 11, 12, and 13. I get the same non-response in each case.

    Recommended action
There may be a problem with the board. If you are using our parallel breakout board, we can ship you a replacement (call us), otherwise, you will need to determine the problem with the vendor of the breakout board you are using.

    Additional Information:
I have tried 3 different breakout boards from 3 different providers and they all do the same thing My limit switches are microswitches wired NC with each axis wired to the BO Board. I have checked each circuit and all is OK to the BO board. each circuit has continuity at the board and when any switch is pressed the circuit breaks. Mach 3 does not recognise that the switches are even there. They are configured as active low Do you have a suggestion.

  • Must I have licence to run planetpc software, is there any other software that will run the usb controller

The Planet CNC Software will require purchase after the trial version is completed, and will be purchased through their website. Currently that is the only software available for the USB Controller.

  • Whiteant- In the software there is a configuration for a heated bed. Where would I wire this in the kit's electronics if i bought one? Would the temperature be on/off or PID?

Currently we planned on having upgraded electronics with the whiteAnt 3D printer, which would have had the ability to support the heated bed, and other options. Which is why there was a configuration file in the downloadable files. However in newer developments we have been working on our prototype blackAnt 3D printer which will have the upgraded electronics and the option for the heated bed, but currently our whiteAnt cannot support the heated bed with the gen4 electronics supplied with the kit.

  • sorry, this is what i meant to say: OK, so if I use the USB version then I would find the rotary/linear axis definitions in the planet cnc control software somewhere. I will be needing to change axis type often for various projects that is why I am asking.

You can download a trial version of PlanetCNC software from their site at http://www.planet-cnc.com/index.php?page=software to see how you like the interface. If you look at their main GUI screen, along the left side you will see 4 boxes labeled X,Y,Z and A. These represent the axes the software is equipped to control. (A being Axial, or rotational motion) Typically a separate motor and driver is used to control each axis. If you plan to switch axes you will need to connect and disconnect the outputs from your software to the drivers.

  • [575] Do I have to use the motion driver and configuration file to use this card? The x,y,a shows that it's moving on display, but the motors aren't moving.

Yes, the RNRMotion.dll file must be used and put in the plugins folder under the Mach3 folder.

The XML file that I link on the Mach3 USB controller page is the file you should start with. This file will have the necessary configuration that links the Mach3 USB controller to the Mach3 control software. You can then make whatever changes you need to this configuration to tailor it to your machine.

Do you see a quick flashing red led on the board when you press the arrow keys?

  • Is Artsoft is out of Bussiness ? I am looking fo 64bit software , was going to use Mach4, so what would you recomend ? thanks John

Artsoft (Also called Newfangled Solutions, Inc.) creates Mach3 and Mach3 along with other CNC related software. They are still in business. I noticed that the https seems to not work, so their SSL may have lapsed (2/19/2019). It is safe to use their website; however, if you do purchase on their site while their SSL is down, it's best to use their PayPal link to do the transaction.

    Additional Information:
Or you can purchase the software from us.

I would recommend Mach4 for the control software.

  • Hello to all the team. I wonder if the MACH 4 software is multiling or not ... Thank you for your reply, best regards. André.

Currently on our first version of MACH 4 that we have received, it was only included with English and German. We believe in the future updated versions of MACH 4 will have plugins, add-ons, or additional files to add additional languages.
But at its current state it only is included with English and German.

  • [575] It is possible to use Modbus MPG with your card or it is only hardware mpg allowed?

You can use a USB, RS232, RS485 (modbus), wireless, or hardwired MPG or Pendant with this controller. I personally use a wireless pendant with this controller without a problem.

  • I'm new to CNC and just finish building my router.I need software for my post processor and not sure if your product is what I need?

You will need a CNC software that will control your router cnc machine, and your design CAD/CAM software will need to know the CNC software you plan on using so the post processor in the CAM software can create the g-code for the CNC control software. So if you have for example, Mach 3 and our parallel breakout board, you can use the Mach 3 post processor in your design software.

  • You can set the Index input with Mach3 Turn and check that the Index is lit on the screen, but it is not reflected in the rotation speed. Is there any way?

Yes, you will need a sensor to determine the speed of the rotation. For instance, you can use a hall effect sensor and put a magnet on the shaft of rotation. By installing the hall effect sensor near the shaft that contains the magnet, you can use this to determine the RPM of the axis and reflect this value in Mach3 using an input in your controller and setting that input in the index line item of the Mach3 input signals dialog box.

Here is a great video that shows the circuit and process:
